Paul Bettany is set to star opposite Will Sharpe in Sky’s limited series about composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The WandaVision and A Very British Scandal star will portray renowned composer Antonio Salieri in Amadeus, with Sharpe playing Mozart, as we previously revealed.
It is a reimagining of Peter Shaffer’s award-winning stage play, and will expand and interrogate the mythic rivalry of the two composers. Hero of his own story but villain to history, Salieri’s envy turns vengeful as he uses any means necessary to thwart Mozart and protect his position in the establishment.
Giri/Haji and The Lazarus Project scribe Joe Barton is writing the series, with Julian Farino directing. Stv Studios-owned Two Cities Television is producing in association with Sky Studios. Goodbye, The Lazarus Project. Unless a mysterious sci-fi organisation steps in to reset time to before Sky chose to cancel the mind-bending time travel drama, that’s our lot. After airing two seasons, they won’t be making a third.
The news was first announced in The Sun, and later confirmed by trustworthy outlets including TV Zone and RadioTimes.com. It had previously been rumoured that if season three were to go ahead, creator Joe Barton would be stepping back to a producer role and welcoming in new writers, who would have to do without some of the major cast members including Tom Burke. Now, that won’t happen because season two will be the last.
Barton posted the cancellation news on social media, along with a meme featuring a woman and a child wearing matching denim jackets throwing confetti in the air, along with the words “Don’t cry because it’s over,...

“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.

I can almost imagine Out of Darkness’ director Andrew Cumming pitching the film to potential backers as Quest for Fire meets Predator. And that would be a fairly accurate description of this Stone Age thriller about a tribe of early humans being picked off by an unseen foe. And one that makes it sound a lot less cerebral and more commercial than it might otherwise appear.
45,000 years ago, six early humans have left their tribe to find a new home. Leading the group is Adem, who also has his young son Heron and Ave who’s carrying Adem’s child along with him. A fresh set of actors are about to be enrolled in what the film series cast cheekily nicknamed ‘the Harry Potter Pension plan’. US streamer Max’s plan to re-adapt the Potter books into a TV show running for 10 consecutive years and starting in 2025/6 should keep the lucky new cast in greasepaint and copies of The Stage indefinitely.
But who will they be? Lead characters Harry, Ron and Hermione will almost certainly be played by unknowns, but the Hogwarts ensemble – Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, Hagrid and co. – will be picked from the current crop of British acting talent, just like their counterparts were over two decades ago. Who working today could follow in the footsteps of Sir Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Dame Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane and the rest?

Almost seven years to the day since it began, we’re about to give a royal wave of farewell to Netflix drama The Crown, but series six might be its most eye-opening yet, as its first part (out on November 16) deals with the events surrounding the tragic death of Princess Diana.
Some critics’ hackles might be up already after the show previously attracted condemnation for historical inaccuracies, so it will be especially interesting to see how the show covers such an emotive and important event in royal history, and just where the story ends when the final episodes are released on 14th December.
Even so, many fans will be disappointed not to see more recent events get The Crown treatment, like that Prince Andrew interview and Harry and Meghan’s very public royal uncoupling, but is it so far beyond the realms of possibility that the show might have a...

Warning: contains major spoilers for The Lazarus Project series one.
The new series of The Lazarus Project on Sky does not mess about. Episode one plunges viewers straight back into the action and expects them to keep up with George and the gang’s time travel twists. The last time we saw them, they were stuck in a constantly repeating three-week loop caused by a collapsing-in-on-itself black hole and everybody was losing their sanity. As series two introduces more time travel to the plot, things only get more complicated.
If your memory of all that needs a little refresher on what everybody was up to the last time we saw them, with series one spoilers ahead, read on.
The Very Short Version: Resets, Time Loops & 2012
As brief as we can make it: George betrayed the Lazarus Project by causing a global war so they’d have to reset time to...

Over eight plot-packed hours, Netflix’s time-spanning police drama Bodies never quite falls on its face — high praise for a genre whose convolutions reliably start off entertaining and end up infuriating.
I can’t say Bodies always makes total sense, but it achieves a healthy balance between amusingly ridiculous and just-plain-ridiculous, with its audaciously high-concept narrative consistently elevated by a top-notch cast and strong production values across several time periods. Like Sky Max’s The Lazarus Project, which TNT dropped into domestic obscurity earlier this year, it’s a decently considered dose of mid-intensity time-travel thrills, a satisfying gift for science-fiction fans.
The series begins in the present day with Shahara Hasan (Amaka Okafor), a London detective sergeant, engaging in a foot pursuit in the middle of a far-right rally and stumbling upon a body on Longharvest Lane.

The Cloverfield franchise may have been dormant for the past few years, but like the titular creature, it will rise again when you least expect it. That’s the fun of this sci-fi horror franchise, which first made its name as a viral hit in 2008 before expanding into a larger universe of stories involving aliens and alternate dimensions. You never know when a new installment might drop.
Such is the case with Cloverfield 4, which, as is tradition in this series, is shrouded in mystery. What we know for sure is that it’s being penned by British screenwriter Joe Barton and will be directed by Babak Anvari (Under the Shadow). Unlike the other sequels, 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox, which began life as completely unrelated standalone scripts before being rewritten and integrated into the Cloverfield franchise, Cloverfield 4 is being developed specifically for the franchise.

Be nice to waiters. That’s the first lesson of new four-part BBC One drama Boiling Point. Be nice to waiters not only because it’s nice to be nice, but because however calm and smiling they emerge from behind those flapping kitchen doors, inside blows a hurricane. Personal dramas and business pressures, dodgy colleagues, nightmare customers, shifts that end at midnight and leave you buzzing with adrenaline that needs to go somewhere… it’s the perfect cocktail for dysfunction and conflict. Handily, that in turn is the perfect cocktail for TV drama, as we know from rightly critically acclaimed US series The Bear (watch that and watch this too; there’s plenty of room for both.)
Boiling Point’s second lesson is just to let this creative team get on with it. Give them a second series with the full six episodes immediately, please, because they clearly know what they’re doing.

We head back to the Summerhouse Estate in East London for one final time with the release of much-loved crime thriller Top Boy‘s final season.
While Netflix refers to Top Boy: The Final Chapter as season three, die-hard fans know that this will technically be the fifth run of the show, as it originally began as a two-series Channel 4 drama back in 2011 before being cancelled before its time.
Thankfully, Netflix revived Top Boy in 2017 with the help of rapper Drake (aka Aubrey Graham), who remains the show’s Executive Producer, and the two original series are also on the streaming platform as Top Boy: Summerhouse.
Like those first two seasons, the three Netflix instalments centre on drug dealers Dushane and Sully, whose tumultuous on-and-off partnership has seen them face brutal rival gangs, perilous prison stints,...

Netflix’s “One Piece” has a colorful, vibrant cast filled newcomers like Iñaki Godoy, who plays as Monkey D. Luffy, and some more seasoned actors like Vincent Regan, who plays Vice Admiral Garp. Netflix put in the work (seven years to be exact) to craft its live adaption of the bestselling manga series.
When “One Piece” creator Eiichiro Oda first saw Godoy, he knew that was his Luffy. Each of the cast members have created their own connection to their characters, and some loved and grew up watching them on screen as children.
Longtime anime fan Emily Rudd, who plays Nami, described her character as a member of the Staw Hats who sevves “like an older sister surrounded by a group of young brothers.” Mackenyu, who is Japanese, grew up idolizing his character Roronoa Zoro. He was so committed to his character that he even pierced his ears for the show,...

This season finale proved one thing: George doesn't get the concept of being a secret agent.
While Lazarus was facing a threat to its very existence on The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 8, George was shooting and killing Shiv over and over and over and over again.
George had the opportunity to correct past errors each time reset. But he was so damned slow to do so.
Not only that, but he was also displaying his brand of squirelliness, which he thought passed as secretiveness to friends and acquaintances alike.
No detective met him outside his apartment to arrest him, as happened on The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 7, so that was progress.
But suffering the fallout from George's inability to fix his past was Shiv.
When this series began, Shiv came off as a real doom-and-gloom kind of guy. His origin story on The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 4 explained why...

We're in the home stretch of summer, but that doesn't mean there's a lack of TV content.
The CW kicks off its Monday comedy block, Good Omens finally returns, and Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig return to the ring on Heels Season 2.
Oh, and we can't forget Taylor Sheridan's Special Ops: Lioness. The cast alone is worth tuning in for.
Scroll down to find out what we recommend this week.
Saturday, July 22
8/7c V.C. Andrews' Dawn: Twilight's Child (Lifetime)
Dawn should be living her best life. She's now married to her pseudo-brother husband and raising some deadbeat Broadway star's kid while running her evil family's hotel empire.
She should be living the perfect life these days, right? Yeah, no.
She still has her creepy obsessive brother Philip and evil sister Clara to contend with, as Lillian's memory still haunts her. Yes, it's another round of this saga,...

What's that they say about the best-laid plans?
The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 7 proved that you can't always get what you want regardless of how well you execute a plan.
It took George four episodes, theft and detonation of a nuclear device, and a reasonably high, if temporary, body count to bring Sarah back to life via a time reset.
And, despite a good amount of evidence to the contrary, George is a pretty cunning guy. So this latest do-over of his life should have worked out, at least better than it did.
Early on, George was proactive, preventing past problems from repeating themselves.
That led him to jump out of bed and leave the newly resurrected but perplexed Sarah to confront Shiv.
When Shiv returned to the land of the living, his first instinct was to go after George, who shot and killed him on The Lazarus Project...

It’s the premiere we’ve all been waiting for as Justified: City Primeval arrives just in time to knock our socks off. And frankly, we cannot wait for They Cloned Tyrone to drop on Netflix on Friday. Should we have a party?
V.C. Andrews’ Dawn continues with Secrets of the Morning, and it’s just as screwed up as the previous flick. These stories, am I right??
But we cannot forget that we are ready for another killer finale as Mayan's Mc draws to a close. Check out what we recommend this week!

8/7c V.C. Andrews’ Dawn: Secrets of the Morning (Lifetime)
Just when we thought Dawn had the upper hand, her world gets upended again. She takes on her new life in New York City, following her dreams and seemingly escaping Lillian’s reach. However, like life tends to do, things change on the dime.

Be careful what you wish for.
That was the central message of The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 6.
George truly hadn't thought through his scheme to bring his lover, Sarah, killed on The Lazarus Project Season 1 Episode 2, back to life.
No, George didn't much care if thousands had to die, at least temporarily, if Sarah was alive again afterward.
Archie should have recognized George's grieving yet determined frame of mind during their philosophical discussions of why Lazarus operatives shouldn't use time resets for their purposes. Her sad story about losing Ross didn't convince him; she should have picked up on that.
Now George has been running about Europe for three episodes, which should have given Archie some pause.
Instead, she first chalked it up to him taking time off while in mourning. Then, after he called her while running from the Romanian police on an unauthorized solo mission, she thought that was initiative.
