I will hold out my hand to you

The lives of three people who met briefly in childhood intersect again in later life. The main story is between a psychiatrist who has an office in the building a hotel concierges lives at, and their relationship. Each character has a troubled past and each carries that weight in different ways. I enjoyed it and I thought the entire cast did a superb job with an interesting storyline and unlike many of the other reviewers I really enjoyed the comedic element particularly the ex-wife of the psychiatrist. If you are looking for a gritty murder mystery this is not for you, but if you are looking for a drama about healing then give it a watch.

Started great then dwindled
fffflora15 August 2021
I agree with another reviewer about the murder mystery disappearing into a rom com. The first two episodes were amazing and this show would have been so amazing if they had stayed on that trajectory. Instead of keeping with the thriller vibe they turned it into a slow rom com. I can't stand it when dramas do this, a lot of dramas start with an amazing first 1 or 2 episodes like they're just trying to hook you, and then everything changes to something totally different. It's to the point that I can sometimes predict if the show is going to start slow down, and I usually prefer dramas that start slow and build up over time instead. This drama was one of the worst I've seen as far as that's concerned, the first 2 episodes are nothing like the rest of the show. Itaewon Class is another one off the top of my head that did this.

I wish 2ML had come back to cause trouble, unknown to everyone if he was the twin or not, while also seducing FL in the meantime and maybe ML tries to keep her from him. Kinda like how it was going down in the first few episodes, but instead they ended it abruptly and then the rom com started and we got to see the two going to the beach, sitting and talking, etc...nothing like the thriller we were given a taste of.

It does have good things about it. The cinematography for one is simply amazing here and worth the praise. It's too bad they totally lost me with the plot.

Not a bad watch
cin_janssens3 November 2021
I'm usually pretty critical about shows but idk what everyone who neg reviewed this show is on about. The murder plot wasn't abandoned and there was nothing awkward about the funny scenes or love scenes. I found them pretty sincere. The only bad part of the show would be Eun-ha the main female character's bff. She was dumb and annoying but other then that the side characters were interesting and necessary to not make the plot line monotonous. Don't listen to the bad reviews they didn't seem to be watching the same show.

Good Cast; Good Script; Beautifully Portrayed Scenes;
Choi-Mihee28 November 2021
Good cast; Good script; Beautifully portrayed scenes;

You watch the first fifteen minutes, and you can't give up watching the rest of it no matter what.

With its forgivable flaws, this drama mesmerizes you like an intriguing novel.

And the storytellers play with your mind, having heavenly voices and remarkable narrative skills.

Disappointing
hadesbobbin11 September 2021
I have two major problems with this drama

1: What should have been the main plot ( the murder mystery) was turned into subplot. In some episodes there wasn't even more than a scene or two about it.

2: What in the world did the do to Kim Dong Wook? I mean his dressing, his hair style, everything was so awful. They gave him such an unappealing outlook. One scene when he looked rather good and neat, he was forced to go back to his idiotic buttoned to the top shirt and stupid hairstyle.

Plot wanders and it can't decide what it wants to be
leahcubed2 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
7/10 is my rating. This is a 2021 South Korean mystery, thriller, romance drama with 16, 70 minute episodes.

Kang Da-jeong (Seo Hyun-jin) grew up with an abusive alcoholic father and her greatest wish as a child was to have a stable family. Because of that early experience with a damaged father figure, she is attracted to men with alcohol problems, those who fail to keep jobs, and others with issues as she attempts to "fix" them. She has a stable job as a concierge manager at a motel and makes a move to a rooftop apartment to make a clean break with her troubled past. Joo Young-do (Kim Dong-wook) moved his psychiatric office to the same building as Da-jeong and has a nearly psychic ability at "reading" people and understanding their psychological issues and motivations. He uses his skill to not only help his patients but everyone around him. Chae Joon/Dr Ian Chase (Yoon Park) took a liking to Da-jeong when they were children growing up in the same neighborhood and looked for her, finally locating Ahn Ga-yeong (Nam Gyu-ri) is Young-do's ex-wife and the relationship ended after discovering that they were together more for Young-do to stablize Ga-yeong's depression and keep her from self harm than out of any romantic love on Young-do's part - they remain friends and he is helping her have confidence to pursue a healthy relationship. All of the individuals are connected by mysterious and tragic incidents from the past. What might fate have in store for them?

I liked this and it mostly kept my interest throughout but it had such a wandering story line that I would not watch it again and it wouldn't be a top recommendation from me. Spoilers** At first I thought that the murders would be a central premise and, there were times, when the focus was on that. But then it would just drift away and focus on aspects of the main couple, or a side couple's relationship and just drop the whole serial murders line all together. There was a major story line around the fact that he had heart issues but it was never fully explained why. You knew that he had went through a lot of medical procedures when he was young when his mother was trying to save his brother but not what his brother had or how that might have resulted in heart damage. So was the heart issue related to that or was the heart issue what had killed his brother? Their romance did not make complete sense either. He pushed her away because he knew, at some point, he might die but then decided to just be with her and there were a lot of things that indicated why he made that decision but it wasn't really spelled out. I expected some kind of dramatic statement like "none of us ever know how long we have" but there was never that. Her friend and her brother had a romance which could have been cute but we never got to see exactly how they got together. Had he always liked her? That would have made more sense. They alluded to the fact that they had slept together and things went from there but they didn't show us them falling in love. Then there were the friends. The boxer girl liked the vet and had a drunken incident where she bit him. I thought they would evolve into a romance but that just fizzled and died because he had a thing for the female lead's best friend. So, I wondered why they even bothered showing the boxer girl and her feelings for the male lead's friend. Da-jeong's mother had talked about some man that was wooing her in the beginning and I thought we would get to see what was going on there but they literally just dropped that story line. The abusive dad, I thought perhaps he was the killer or some interesting twist like that but no, he just stayed away as he promised then died. I thought so much was going to happen around the mother and nothing really did. There were so many things started and never completed that it felt like plot wandered everywhere. The ending was not satisfying because so many things were not wrapped up. And they sort of shook hands - really? That's what you do with someone you are going to spend years with? Just an awkward, facing each other, hand shake? Overall just a very underwhelming story.

Best show ever!
andreescovedo21 November 2021
I can't stop watching this series. The case is more serious than with "Friends". Fortunately, watching Dr. Ju Yong-do helps!

The editing is very elaborate, focusing and reviewing details, with different points of view, which intensifies the emotions to a level only attainable in experimental films, but with such a great mastery of technique that it takes the eyes used to Western films. Even with each episode lasting 70 minutes, we kept wanting to see it again.

Don't miss the sequence that starts at 11 minutes of edpsode 9. What an great actress Seo Hyunjin is!

Thanks to the whole team for this amazing show!

Two different dramas in one
Glue2Screen13 March 2023
I can't fully decide if I like or dislike this drama. How this drama started and how it progressed felt like two completely different shows. It began full throttle with a mysterious thrill ride but seemed to have fluttered into a cute tale of friendship/relationship with heart. I enjoyed both of the stories separately but just felt it was very disjointed as the mood shifts drastically between the two plots. I do love dramas with different and contrasting genres mixed together (IE Hotel Del Luna with horror/comedy/drama), but there's something about You Are My Spring that just felt not completely there and also dragged on so much for last 6 episodes. This series lacks in good substance as majority of the conflicts are simply concluded and

I do love the female lead as I absolutely adored her in Black Dog and she did wonderfully (even if a bit too superficially) in this drama.

Overall, if you love all the elements of comedy/romance but also want some suspense without being scary--this is for you! Otherwise, if out of curiosity you can just watch a recap OR just skip the latter half.

A well given hug can heal anything
elbehar13 August 2023
Like most K-Dramas I've seen lately this one doesn't disappoint either.

Everyone has a past what we do with it is up to all of us. A choice you make. For some there present is find with remorse of not being able to help, filed with rage or compassion.

This is the story of three people that had a tough childhood and how eachone grew. After many years and trials and tribulations they somehow meet again.

Will they remember their comon childhood? Will they over come their past? Will a strong heartfelt hug heal the pain from past?

Not everything is black and white.

The intrigue is good, the characters are authentic and the story in all is good.

Motion sickness....blergh.
chilligrrl13 February 2023
I just had to drop my rating down a star because of Ep 15. Why any director thinks it's fun, edgy or wanted that you film people while the camera goes around in a circle with people talking for 5 minutes causing motion sickness is beyond me. I am too nauseous to read the subtitles and will have to turn it off.

Otherwise it was slow, funny, sad, horrific and quite a cute show in a way. Their past lives all melded into one curious story which was interesting but kind of an after thought sideline. One of the friends was so freaking annoying I don't know how he remained a friend at all (the tv producer).

But excuse me while I go chuck.

A Strong Start That Fizzles Out Towards The End
fake_moviestar26 August 2021
You Are My Spring started off with a bang - it was eerie, dark, interesting, and with just a splash of romance. However with each episode the romance took over that eerie creepy plot line, and they switched from suspenseful to cheesy. Don't get me wrong, I was happy with the main couple, I thought they were super cute and I loved Young Do, he was such a sweet and comforting character. As a couple they were a tad cringe though, it sometimes was a bit too much.

The show pretty much did a complete 180 about halfway through and left me feeling somewhat empty. I was expecting a thriller with a romance and the thriller part really fell through. I liked the plot twists, but they weren't executed with enough punch. This was I think a case of two genres mushed together that should have been separate shows/story lines. I really started to lose interest as the last few episodes aired, and only finished the show to finish it, not because I was engaged anymore. There were still some big questions left unanswered, which perhaps led to that empty feeling once I finished watching. There was also a lot of filler in the second half, focusing mostly on all the friends of the main couple and who they end up with and are dating. I liked the side characters but not enough to care about their love lives.

Overall this was rather disappointing. I really loved the first half of the show, I was fully engaged and really invested in the story. Somewhere along the way the show lost me. I would skip this one.

Episode 16?
dvoceanside29 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Most disappointing finish to a kdrama that I can remember in about five years of watching so many dramas. Did the clock run out for writing and filming "You are my Spring"? Does anyone else agree? I still recommend it and liked the main characters. More could have been done in development of supporting characters. Even episode 15 was a disappointment also. I can handle only so much reviewing and reminiscing from previous episodes. A 16 episode series could be reduced a few episodes and move faster. Maybe in South Korea the made for TV series cause all the wasted time being needed to keep people watching each week.

Getting a heart broken is not a metaphor. You can't see the wound but the injury is real."
jgardiner-871-72672915 January 2022
It's a slow burn but now I've discovered it's a psychoanalysis of every part of these peoples lives. It is so slow moving at the beginning and makes me lose interest. I still watching but it sometimes gets so weird.

First off the Psychiatrist was married to the Celebrity but now is divorced but she still comes to him. How come they were married? He seems to have no emotional attachment to her. Why did he marry her? Did he marry her to help her overcome her mental illness? Yes! Weird az! After a year they divorced!!! He thought that she was healed. What is that about. So according this he married because he thought that it would help her mental problems heal....... not for anything like love. They didn't even have marital relations.....yeah funny and crazy az,

I'm still trying to get my head around these seemingly senseless murders. The two brothers being twins. One a Doctors and the other a murderer. Still not sussed with that.

I finished this but it is a strange romance and thriller mystery. I'm not sure how I take it. So much analysing and reasons behind the actions. There is no real spontaneity of actions which makes me lose the meaning of what I am here for......my entertainment. It is hard to see the chemistry between the main actors.

This is only my opinion but to me me it's all kind of grey. What were they saying in the ending:" You're heart can easily be broken. Getting a heart broken is not a metaphor. You can't see the wound but the injury is real."

Another unique concept , executed poorly
runhobo-5024622 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It started pretty amazing , the romnce the thrill , it was all exciting to watch . Dialogues are very well written and meaningful as well . First 8-9 episodes were out of this world, but the remaining episodes were directionless . They didn't unfold the story properly , some mysteries were still not answered like how did that picture ended up in his locker ? And the main thing , the motive of the killer was still unclear . A very disappointing ending though ! I loved the romance between main characters but the murder mystery part was done extremely wrong.

Glass Half Full
abscondus28 July 2021
I've watched 7 episodes of this so I don't think it's going to get any better. I really enjoyed the serious parts of the show, the tragic childhoods of the three main characters, the awkward attempts of two damaged people to start a romance and the ongoing murder mystery. I didn't like the comedic scenes because they were over the top to the point of farce and there were far too many of them. Kdrama is famous for mixing comedy and drama together, but it only works when done with a careful touch. The writing and directing fails to deliver that in this case. It gives the impression of a show that doesn't know what it wants to be. The acting is excellent and the leads are appealing and sympathetic. Worth watching, but a little disappointing.

Totally tedious
KlfOpera28 July 2021
The leads are unappealing. Hidden in this series is a possibly interesting murder mystery. But I have watched 6 episodes and the mystery seems to have disappeared and we are subjected to a boring rom com. Maybe it will get better but I have paid my dues and can't go on.

disappointed..
backupemailsandwichs10 January 2022
This is just my opinion but the female lead was very dislikable. And almost every other character too. The male lead is an acceptation because he seems to be the only sensible person on this show considering he's a psychiatrist. The show made me feel really heavy and I'm not looking forward to watching anymore of it. Maybe its just not my cup of tea, I'm sure other people will like it.

Seems like two different writers and two directors and a lot of mess
fanoulamed12 January 2023
Time wasted and so much potential lost. Plus the translation in English is ridiculous. College students would have film it much much better. Oh and some casting problems but the biggest problem is that there is no logic on the script and ridicule plot. Yep a hot mess. The leading actors are not bad but the chemistry wasn't there. Messages didn't pass through to the audience in my opinion and the flashbacks was so so annoying. As a doctor myself I could not relate to any of the characters or even find any similarities with any of colleagues in my 20 year medical career. Was that a science fiction series perhaps than a romance? Please dubbed in English better Korean series that already exist that this stupid, unrealistic and frustrated piece of cinematography. Thanks.

What happened to the plot?
jjemod3 November 2021
What I thought was an interesting plot took a turn in midstream and never came back. I am so disappointed. As a viewer, you go down the rosy path the writers have taken you, introducing you along the way to attractive actors and good acting, with the incidental subplots being their relationships. But these "subplots" take over the show. The mystery you thought you were watching turns into a cutsie relationship soap opera. Again, I am so disappointed.

FIZZLED OUT
pjkblue-359262 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It did start off with interesting storylines that were intertwining, but the series could have been cut to10 or 12 episodes because of all the filler romance and inconsequential narrative.

Storylines were just dropped - like the whole unexplained surgery of the hospital chairman and his wife who was going to get revenge. On who or what??? Those characters just filled in as distractions with zero explanation.

All the character's romantic partnering was okay but so much of that was just tedious after a while. We get, so at least try to explain the backgrounds, the traumas, the "evil" that lurks under the bed.

It was good then the entire writing just dribbled with long and boring narration "insights".

You Are My Psychiatrist AKA Trauma Bonding
Park_Min14 February 2024
There is a comment to be made about psychiatrists dating, loving, diagnosing, healing their patients but, technically, she wasn't a patient during working hours. The writer brushed that off by having ML to pull up the "If you were my patient, I would have asked you this...." By no metric this should've been longer than 8 episodes. The slow dreamy scenes and extensions didn't serve a purpose, they didn't enhance a scene, build an atmosphere, have a cinematic purpose, or contribute to the story. I think they wanted to associate pretty nicely shot slow-mo scenes with it being a cute show? Such things would only work if they struck at the right moment, not every moment. Some cognitive things didn't need to be portrayed on screen to convey a piece of information, like the ML lead forgetting the fridge door open to tell us he was distracted. It's okay to have a few sprinkled here and there but the drama was infested with such scenes. The first 3 episodes were a bit too boring but I stuck with it to see more of this supposed "mystery", of which, there was barely any mystery after that. This was supposed to be the secondary main plot but ended up being less important than most of the insignificant side plots like Da Jung's mother or Ga Young's trainer (btw what happened to the trainer?). The drama didn't know what it wanted to be so we had an uneven mix of genres and themes. Observing the characters, there was something off about their behavior, like an imitation through a fancy lens. Not only through their portrayal but also through their driven narrative. The drama had a lot of inner monologue and self-narration to fill its time but most of them were a hit or miss and didn't provide a deeper connection as they hoped. The drama was supposed to show the healing process but both leads didn't have more than a couple of scenes where they properly talked.
