Another Terrible Ending!
Rob133130 September 2022
The original Dexter was absolutely, without a doubt, one of the best shows ever created! It's a thrilling, one of a kind TV show that will keep you at the edge of your seat throughout the entire series. Michael C. Hall is perfect as Dexter and the rest of the supporting cast is just as fantastic! Yes, the ending was terrible but like Game of Thrones, Lost (or any other show with a bad final episode), a few bad episodes at the end doesn't spoil what an overall great show it was and that's what Dexter is...a GREAT show! The ending was so bad they brought back Dexter: New Blood to give it a better ending. Problem is the ending to this was even worse. I've loved having Dexter back on my tv and the show was really good overall, they just blew the ending for a second time. It's still definitely worth watching!

I missed Dexter so much but the ending was awful!
Supermanfan-1330 January 2023
I missed Dexter so much and was so excited to hear that it was getting revived for this series. Dexter is easily one of my favorite shows of all-time and one of the few shows I can watch all the way through several times over without getting bored. Dexter: New Blood is actually pretty good until the ending. The ending to the original was pretty bad but this ending is actually worse. I'm not one of those people who thinks a bad ending ruins the whole series for me, as long as the series was good overall then I don't downgrade the entire series because of one bad show. But if there's any exception this show is it. The ending really is that bad. I'd still recommend this to any Dexter fans just to see Michael C. Hall back as Dexter. That's worth watching alone. Just be prepared to be disappointed at the ending.

Spectacular reboot to one of my favorite shows
UniqueParticle8 November 2021
So much charm same as original series, I love everything they've done with it so far and blessed to see more of Micheal C. Hall! The Dark Passenger still flows ever so smooth through a new area with his rules intact. One of the best soundtracks ever that makes me so happy enticed for more to come; hell yes Dexter Morgan!

The Dark Passenger is back!!
cscott23317 November 2021
Great start. I'm going to forgive and forget how the previous series ended and start anew. I refuse to let the final episode take away the awesomeness that was Dexter. I was excited they jumped right in. I'm sure we'll get lots more backstory on the way, but all I needed to know was Dexter Morgan was still in there...and he is! Even the musical score was spot on! Can't wait to see what dark Journey we're taken on this season. Bring it on Dexter!! I'm ready!

Dexter Saga Continues
myronlearn8 November 2021
I was big 'Dexter' fan and when the series ended some 8 years ago, I thought it concluded well. When I read they were doing a 'Dexter' sequel, I was very dubious, believing that it would be better just to leave well enough alone. Sequels generally are disappointing.

Having watched the first episode of 'Dexter:New Blood', I have to admit that they pulled it off beautifully. Though the venue is different, it was like seeing old friends again. (so glad Debra is back as Dexter's conscience, advisor, etc). I'm happy to report that 'Dexter' is officially back up and running like a fine tuned machine. Welcome back!

Reboots are always messy; not this one
arnab_9117 November 2021
I was disappointed that they let Dexter live after hurricane Laura. Disappointment turned into pleasure with the finesse the reboot kicked off. Dexter's breaking point, the urges, the onion like layers of his new life merging with his old life was actually pretty dope. Harry, Dexter's father moulded him creatively, it's to be seen what Dexter does with that gift!

Dexter: New Blood wasn't supposed to come out
eva3si0n28 July 2022
Dexter: New Blood wasn't supposed to come out. Dexter: New Blood only disappoints as a result. Yes, in general, if we consider season 9 as a separate project, it is not bad, and you can watch it very much. But if you consider the series as a whole, then this is an extra season. Season 8 ended with dignity. As for Dexter: New Blood itself, there is no good and intelligible antagonist, there is no interesting story. If you're a big fan of the original series, it hurts you to watch it.

Ending ruined it
S-t-a-t-i-x12 January 2022
Dexter: New Blood quickly felt like Dexter again. I was enjoying it more and more until the last 10-15 minutes of the final episode. I can't believe they did it again. They freaking did it again... Once more they ruined it with the ending.

It's a damn shame, because this had so much potential.

Building Up
Tactrix21 November 2021
Slow start but the feel is pretty similar to the original. I really can't stand Deb in this one, harry was at least helpful, all Deb seems to do in this one is scream and yell at Dexter. The other thing that bothered me with both the original series and this one is fact that Dexter is always looking for ways to get rid of bodies. For anyone else that might be a thing, but he's literally a forensics expert, he spent most of his life in science, if anyone should know how to melt a body to nothing it should be him.

Update: After watching the whole "first season", I'm confused as why they started a new series instead of just calling it season 9. It seems like they literally did this just to wrap up the original series ending, and it really doesn't look very likely that they'll even have a season 2 so...?

Dark Passenger
celt0077 November 2021
The Dark Passenger is hitching a ride ... Picking up where we left off a few plus years down the road ... Dexter is back and here we go again and the writing is spot on .

Glad to see a great show even better with episode 1.

Interesting but different (I still prefer the original Dexter)
persian-belle21 January 2023
Interesting, however not the same as the old/original Dexter series.

I'm a big fan of the original Dexter series, and of course, as a fan, I wanted to watch this new mini-series too.

I enjoyed this one, and to be honest, the second and third watches were better for me, once I got over the initial disappointment about the differences and accepted this one for what it was.

After all, this series is named Dexter: New Blood, which prepares the viewer for something familiar yet different. We know that Dexter Morgan had to go somewhere else to start afresh, under a new name, as he faked his own death. He has now found a small town in the north, which is very different than Miami.

Here are some of the DIFFERENCES that were significant for me. As you may guess, these were my favourite parts of Dexter, and what got me interested in the original series in the first place:

  • LOCATION/SETTING/COLOURS
I love Florida. In the original series, I couldn't get enough of the colourful palette when I watched Dexter. The sunny weather, the palm trees, the bright colours of people's clothing, the buildings and the whole backdrop.

Dexter: New Blood is filmed in Massachusetts, but the story is supposed to take place in the small town of Iron Lake, NY. In any case, this new series takes place in winter. So all you see in snow and a grey backdrop. People are always in heavy winter clothing, mostly in dark and/or dull colours, and we almost never see the sun.

Bustling Miami has given its place to a quiet town where few people live.

  • MUSIC
No more happy Latin music. This new one is full of a variety of rock songs, most of which are not really my style. I know that Michael C. Hall (Dexter's actor) chose some of them himself. He's also an accomplished theater performer and singer.

  • HUMOUR STYLE
Oh, how I miss the dark humour, the smart puns and the irony and sarcasm of the filming and in Dexter's voice-over.

Dexter: New Blood is drama, but that's all. No more chuckles or laughs, and by the way no more Masuka's comic relief.

  • FAVOURITE/FAMILIAR CHARACTERS
All of Dexter's entourage in the original series were interesting to me. They were the constants and grew older with us and with Dexter: Masuka, Harry, Rita (as long as she was alive), even Laguerta (before her death), Angel, Deb, Astor and Cody... Here's a list of familiar/reappearing characters in the new series: Dexter himself, Harrison- as a teenager, Deb - as an imaginary ghost who is mostly angry and menacing now, and Angel- in a couple of very short scenes.

The new characters of Dexter: New Blood are mostly small towners with some bad guys among them.

***

Some of the pleasantly similar aspects:

  • DEXTER'S CHARACTER
Although with less humour and irony, we see that Dexter Morgan, in spite of aging, hasn't quite changed his personality. He's still eager to fit in, still smiling to others and trying to look like any ordinary guy. He's living alone at the beginning and talking to Deb's ghost in private. The series also starts with the views seeing Dexter abstaining from killing (for 10 years). However, it looks like he's fighting his dark passenger everyday.

  • DEB'S PRESENCE
It's interesting that Jennifer Carpenter is back. I love any character that she plays. She's genuine and in my opinion is one of the best in expressing raw emotion.

Even though Deb's imaginary ghost which we see here is often angry, criticizing and sometimes menacing, it's nice to have her back.

  • STORYLINE
There's a mystery to be solved here, but we don't get the same sense of urgency about it, especially at the beginning. Towards the end of the mini-series, the story becomes a little more convoluted before all reaches a resolution.

Nothing groundbreakingly different, just different. If you changed the names of the characters (if this were unrelated to Dexter), I would never start watching it. Mind you, I am not unhappy that I did, as it became more interesting toward the end.

I'm giving it 8/10 mostly because I'm a Dexter fan.

It was good, but yeah, the finale was baloney.
mck-2073911 June 2022
It was good, it was Dexter good, but I have to agree with other reviewers: the finale is really bad. I had read reviews before watching the series and I couldn't believe the finale would really be that bad. The story could have gone in any direction, but it seems it went in the worst possible one. The finale just doesn't make sense, it doesn't add up; it's not only unrealistic, but it also doesn't seem to be justified even in the realms of an isolated piece of fiction. Everything was really good, but the finale was just bad writing.

Not enough episodes to make you really care about any of the new characters
julieshotmail9 January 2022
"Dexter: New Blood" by all means is an exhilarating premise - you get to be taken back to one of the most iconic shows to grace the TV screen in the mid to late 2000s before streaming was a thing. The character Dexter puts you in a rather complicated and awkward position of rooting for a serial killer. That's because the original series invests the time to form a sympathetic backstory, and it effectively creates the nuances of a charming Dexter that keeps you interested in what happens to him. The same goes for most or all of the supporting characters who are properly given sufficient stories and screen time that you also care about them. Unfortunately, the 10 episodes of "New Blood" do not succeed in making any of the other characters sympathetic and really likable. Either the season is too short, or the characters themselves, from Angela to even Harrison, lack proper development. By the end, the only real sympathetic character is still only Dexter, so you continue to root for him but without conflict because you could care less about the other characters.

Overall a great comeback, I was a huge Dexter fan and I was thrilled when this series came out but sadly the ending killed it, I'm not sure if any Dexter fan would agree with the ending!!!

I'm a Dexter fan so I can excuse some of the unrealistic writing/scenarios and bad Timing! Sure the writing gets better as new covert villains I. E. serial killers emerge!

first impression about Dexter: New Blood after watching the main show
ahmedm0ustafa28 January 2022
Sadly, this reboot was less than expected.

Bad scripts which are less-expected compared to the main show and a very bad/sad ending which I absolutely didn't see it coming till the last minute.

I'm really upset that such a masterpiece like Dexter had such a reboot which is more like garbage by looking at the main show.

Legacy
aboalhyjaa18 December 2021
Anyone who saw the old show"Dexter" asked themselves this question, are Dexter a hero or an antihero? Good or bad? The cop or the villain?

Yet with the un-finished ending to the old dexter no one actually had the 100% answer of that. But, with this show I guess we all had our answers.

His relationship with his boy is everything and did deserved its own season or show and the other stories with the other characters are not as much as great like the old ones but they're not bad either.

Magnificent start to one of the best series ever
skintone-3860016 November 2021
Dexter was one of the best TV series ever seen so I had very low expectations regarding this new season.

First off, Michael C Hall has hardly aged in 10 years, so it was like just continuing where we left off.

I loved that.

Also the first episode is so cool, to see the slow build up of tension. We see Dexter living this idealic life in his new town, but we know it can't last and the slow build up is masterfully done.

Absolutely loving it so far, hope it continues .

Its Dexter, but with snow.
johnsen-kasper25 November 2021
I've read a bunch of the negative review, and let me start by saying: I'm not sure what more they want?

This is Dexter as it used to be. Its quirky, dark and not very realistic. But you could apply that to the entire series, and if you do - Dexter isn't for you. But if you loved Dexter, you're going to love this just as much, is is everything we ever wanted - cant wait to see more!

I actually like it better than the first part..
asterblasterth7 November 2021
Big Dexter fan. Loved the original show but I actually think they're topping the first part. Now not story wise per se but the quality is just better. The little things like sets and locations are way better. Usually I don't like remakes/part 2's and so on because they're usually not up to par but this is a great continuation of the story.

You should definitely check it out whether you've seen the first seasons of Dexter or not.

Long wait, no see. I was exited. No disappointment so far. Dexter New Blood is even a little more spohisticated with better acting overall. Worth to watch. Outstanding in the current series environment.

Second chance on a decent closure, still failed
mr-altex9 January 2022
I did not expect another season of Dexter after the years and my expectations were low in the age where even TV commercials have to fit the cultural guide lines.

In a sense it was a good season, after pretty lackluster final season 8. That said, the bar is so low that even Dexter watching hamster in a wheel for 10 hours would be a step up.

It follows up on the "bad season" of Dexter. Being sloppy, bad focus on detail. Inner monologues are enriched by Debra. She is a bit too touchy for a ghost. Almost nothing on the screen is meaningful unless some character says so. It can be pretty much be listened without watching, because almost everything is "told", and not played out.

Flow of the seasonal story was fairly predictable, spiked with undesirable teenage drama and shortcuts.

Well, at least it was better than treadmill and sailing out to the hurricane.

Get rid of Debra!
tb4now16 November 2021
I am a huge Dexter fan from the original series, however, I am finding it hard to stomach this new Dexter New Blood series. The man reason being that the periodic showing up of Debra and her constant screaming of profanity really irritates me. In fact, so much so that I am starting to mute my sound whenever she shows up. Please enough already. All that screaming is really messing up the show.

In a world where all the good shows have come to an end..
caroline_chupaa28 November 2021
They managed to bring Dexter Morgan back.

And I'm forever thankful.

Following the dark passenger and his new life and old bits returning is a journey itself.

Hope they continue with a few more seasons. Loving the comeback so far and can't wait to see how everything unfolds.
