Slow-moving and dull youth film about the world of teenage girls
ma-cortes11 November 2023
The film focuses on two friends Ana and Corales, Ana is going through a complicated moment in her life, between family conflicts and identity problems. Ana adores her friend Corrales, a magnetic and dazzling classmate, who fantasizes about taking her own life. Ana has created a close bond with her friend Corrales, who will drag her into the sordid world of the manifestations of suicide attempts on social networks.

The film deals with teenagers from Generation Z, the girls are representative of modern young women with anxiety, family problems, without religion, dedicating themselves to the Internet and the new social networks. The picture covers topics such as depression, bullying, bulimia, family problems and the identity crisis of adolescence. The film is handicapped due to the fast and very Andalusian language, which is why a normal Spanish person does not understand it, making it therefore necessary to watch it with subtitles. Also its excessive quasi-documentary tone and the long boredom that triggers the long conversations of the teenagers and innocuous tirades of the teenagers, make you lose interest in the film. Eventually the stickleback is absent from death and as it is reflected on the screen, it does not interest the viewer, also causing the unwary person who goes to the cinema or watches it on television to become somewhat depressed.

Filmed in 15 mm and in a semi-documentary style, it has non-professional actors who give the film a certain realism. Amodeo states that even the dialogues, scenes and situations are taken from real incidents. With an analogical aspect, as if it were a home movie, the film relies on the visual language of social networks, generating a greater connection with the world in which the protagonists see themselves immersed.

This is the sixth feature-length film by Santi Amodeo here addressing some of the problems in which the so-called Generation Zeta are involved. From the way of reacting, to anxiety or the romanticization of suicide. Amodeo was inspired by a news story about a mass suicide in Wales (United Kingdom) . Produced/photographed by Alex Catalán, a good cameraman (Santi Amodeo's regular in charge of photographing a lot of successful films such as ¨Even the rain¨ , ¨Grupo 7¨, ¨Habitacion En Roma¨ , ¨Cabeza De Perro¨ and ¨Voz Dormida¨. The motion picture was written , produced , directed and musicalized by Santi Amodeo . Santi directs with a bit of flair here and there but not enough to raise up the materia . This is his last film , he had previously directed ¨El Factor Pilgrim¨ , ¨Astronautas¨ and ¨Cabeza De Perro¨ at his best and the comedy ? Quien mató a Bambi ¿ . Rating; 4.5/10. Only for for teen drama fans.
