Not a hidden gem, but actually not bad
CaliRemix9 August 2011
When I saw this movie on Netflix, I decided to watch it just because it takes place in Spokane (close to where I grew up). With a pretty dismal rating, I wasn't expecting much going into it. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

The production value, acting, filming, sound, etc. are all well done. Unlike many Netflix instant-play movies, it seemed this one was made by a competent production company that actually invested into the quality of the film.

Although the story isn't anything extraordinary, and can be very slow at times, it can be credited with being somewhat original and provides a few fresh twists. If you aren't expecting a Hollywood blockbuster, and can manage to sit through a movie without A-list actors, you may actually find the 90 minutes of Toxic Skies enjoyable.

The only thing I am really disappointed with is the location of Spokane plays no role besides the movie needing to take place somewhere. It is ironic the one thing that hooked me into watching the movie ended up being irrelevant.

Not great, but watchable....
roth8111 October 2013
A mysterious illness has broken out, sending its victims into the hospitals convulsing and vomiting and generally looking really gross. The disease displays symptoms that lead super-doctor Tess Martin (Anne Heche) to begin thinking that the Bubonic Plague has erupted. But when a guy named Jack (James Tupper), who just so happens to Speak Truth to Power, gets on the scene, he clues Tess in a frightening conspiracy.

Toxic Skies is one of those straight-to-video movies. For being a low budget film shot in Canada, this movie has great cinematography and editing. The movie had more potential if only the writing had been better. The script was too inaccurate and unrealistic. Too much effort was put into the message, and not enough into the quality of the film. The movie is slow.

Toxic Skies cobbles a few elements from the movie "Outbreak", particularly why it becomes personally important for Tess to quickly discover a cure. The movie isn't as suspenseful as it could have been. The film touches on an important motivation of Tess' physician work, yet never returns to it. There just seemed like great potential for backstories, or learning more about the two main doctors in general.

Anne Heche gives a solid performance as Dr. Tess Martin, but the rest of the cast is lacking of talent.

Not great, but watchable....

not really exciting

Warning: Spoilers
Okay movie about how chemtrails, the vapor trails left by planes, are spreading a deadly virus which makes almost everyone in Spokane sick. Anne Hesche plays a doctor who tries to sort out what is behind the disease and find out a way to stop it from killing everyone.

Yet another government is bad movie is an okay thriller. The cast is fine, but its not really given much to do beyond the cliché. Its best not to really think about much of what happens since it doesn't completely make sense. Things are not helped by the feeling that this wasn't really made with any sort of passion, and while its competent its never compelling. I'd wait for cable.

Corporations are Above the Government
pbeat24 August 2010
The problem with the complaints about this movie is they are all centered on making fun of conspiracy theories which is exactly what the corporations want you to believe. This is brought out effectively in the movie but the reviewers who want more sex and violence are not mature enough for this subject. Corporations who are obliged and required by their bylaws to make money don't want to kill you but collateral damage is to be expected. Haven't we learned from BP oil spills, made up wars for oil and Halliburton and the billions of lobbyist money that goes to buy Congressmen, judges and Presidents that there is more to this than you think. "Cuting corners with people's lives, how could you let that happen?" "Unbelievable." It is not your government that you should fear, but the people who make fun of Government by saying things like the nine scariest words in the English language are "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." Those people are bought off by the corporations. The government IS here to help but when Corporations infiltrate the government and prop up actors and buffoons to make you think everything is a big conspiracy, what they mean is its all a joke, nothing to see here move along.

This is a great movie and they do even have a little romance for those who can only handle sex and violence.

The first five minutes of this movie made me think it was going to be good. I was wrong. Totally and completely boring.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
trans_mauro18 September 2009
Well, I guess that based on the script and the idea behind this celluloid junk this would be a better title for this movie.

TS is living proof that people have run out of ideas ages ago. Basically, we have another movie about some government/big companies conspiracy to screw the lives of the poor citizens of USA. This time it is all about CHEMTRAILS which are made by airplanes spraying the skies with harmful chemicals, viruses and whatever... It is funny that with so many other sources for bad guys (terrorists, muslin fundamentalists, Ronald MacDonald, soccer hooligans, Paris Hilton, etc...) they still insist on these bad government/bad company type of villains. It is hard to believe that there are people that still fall for this kind of nonsense. On the other hand, we are reminded time and again of human stupidity, because, as we all know, humans believe anything and anyone.

Regarding the technical merits of the film, there is nothing much to say. It is a pretty sub-par and mediocre way to waste a couple of hours. It is slow moving, boring, nothing interesting happens. Not even gratuitous scenes of sex, violence or an idiotic romantic subplot.

I gave it two stars because it made me fall asleep, which was good.

Watchable movie. Points us in the right direction to a lot of Gov. secrecy. This movie is a bit old but we should know by now if we have woke up and look around that some movies are propaganda and some are trying to wake us up. Anne is good. Don't know James. Needs to lose some weight. The movie is a bit slow and Nurse goodbody plays the don't show emotions well. I wonder how the hero gets in the car when it shows Anne always locks the door with the remote. Another blooper. Another gotcha is only one town is affected by airplane vapor, hmm very selective spraying I guess. To Author: Uriah43 from Amarillo, Texas. Do some research before making conspiracy theory comments.

A Nice Little Conspiracy Film
Uriah4327 November 2012
A deadly virus has struck Spokane, Washington, and "Dr. Tess Martin" (Anne Heche) is trying to find a cure. But before she can do that she needs to isolate the virus and figure out why all known antibiotics don't even slow it down. Meanwhile, a person named "Jack" (James Tupper) is trying to convince her that there is a conspiracy going on and wants her to expose the people responsible. In the meantime, patients are beginning to die and it appears that the Mayor, the Army and a CEO of a leading drug pharmaceutical are all behind the spread of the disease. At any rate, rather than reveal the rest of the story, I will just say that this is a nice little conspiracy film which should keep most viewers interested from start to finish. Anne Heche is quite cute and gives a good performance as the doctor who is both competent and caring. Likewise, James Tupper does quite well as the conspiracy fanatic who just won't give up. And although the story is a little far-fetched at times, I still enjoyed it and think that most fans of this genre will appreciate it too.

Another Fictional Conspiracy Theory With No Factual Basis
Srosxi28 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
If I did not love my fiancé I would never have watched any of this so-called movie. I slept through a good portion (thank You God).

I could begin with what I think of Anne Heche, but that will be obvious if you have watched any of her prior work, including this film. I hope, and pray, that Anne Heche and Michael Moore never have children together. The abomination would be unfathomable.

The movie. If I could give it a negative rating I would. The plot was very cliché. Something I learned in 11th grade NOT TO DO. The acting was sub-par at best, and the topic, well, yeah...totally without basis and fact. The woman, Anne, is (of course) made out to look like she understands ALL and is talented and educated above all the rest of us minions. The opposing view, as in many of Michael Moore's movies and supposed documentaries, are made purposefully to look arrogant and stupid.

We have lost wars because of this kind of thinking. Arrogance. Belief in something that has no basis. We have gone to war, also, due to thinking like that.

The first reviewer, pretty much sets the tone, by saying that the "chem trails" do not "decapitate." Errr....yeah. One link to a popular dictionary is www.m-w.com. Figure it out.

First and foremost, one needs to understand jet propulsion. Was the big billowing cloud around the launches of the Space Shuttles smoke? Again, you can find the truth with just a tad bit of intelligence about chemistry. Hydrogen. Oxygen. Yeah.

As I didn't watch the end of the movie where S.W.A.T. men shot randomly, I did look at the sky and noticed that the "chem trails" above my home this evening are, in fact, 'dissipating' nicely. They are not water vapor at all. Anybody that says such is likely also under educated.

Take some basic courses on the chemical makeup of what we, humans for those that are concerned, consider "Air." With the addition of some chemical courses, and application of some basic math, you will eventually arrive at a point where meteorology enters the picture. Short story, the average temperature at the top of Pike's Peak (14,400 feet above mean sea level) is about 38 degrees F. Without much thought, and the fact that the 'water vapor' is dispersed at the typical average cruising altitude of 30,000 feet, it would freeze instantly.

The entire premise of the myth that this movie is based on is false, prolonged by folks that look for conspiracy, and most likely believe that Area 51 is still 'secret' and 'aliens' did crash near Roswell, New Mexico.

If you do not like what I have said, and wish to discuss this further, first, sober up. Next, watch the movie and you will believe and enjoy it. For those that understand a nugget of what I have said: you should be paid to watch this filth.

You follow the story? Until next time, this review is brought to you by Srosxi.

Anne, we're gonna miss you

Warning: Spoilers
Anne Heche and James Tupper star in this independent film about a possible pandemic. Heche played a doctor who discovered metal in her patients. There is a government and corporate involvement. It's a fine film free on streaming, Anne Heche was believable and good in this role. She had so much promise and potential in acting onscreen. She took this role and made it her own. The film is watchable though. Barclay Hope Is also a wonderful actor as well. James Tupper had a key role in this film too. The film is set in Spokane, Washington but filmed in Canada. Tupper and Heche had worked together before.

We have no more beds
nogodnomasters3 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
MAY CONTAIN PLOT SPOILERS A viral epidemic hits Spokane. Anne Heche plays a CDC doctor doing an investigation when she gets a tip it is caused by a chemical E901 being placed in jet fuel. The excitement nearly rages as corporations and government want secrets kept.

It is great that we are drawing attention to how we are killing ourselves and the planet with chemicals. I am not sure how a virus is a chemical and survives in burnt jet fuel. They were detecting a metal signature in patients, which could not be caused by a virus which can not manufacture metals. If the problem is metal toxins, then there is no vaccine for it, you must chelate. I know that much and I am not a doctor, but I used to play one as a child. They were using level A protective clothing to visit infected patients-good. But when they doffed the suits, they were not decontaminated first and they did so in a common area where unprotected people go and then left the suits just lie around. Can we get script writers smarter than a fifth grader? Guide: No swearing, sex, nudity, or common sense.

Thought Provoking
paymonorama13 October 2009
I found the premise of this movie fascinating. "Chemtrails" are certainly an interesting phenomena! The white trails behind many planes these days seem to linger for many hours and unlike water vapors (contrails) they do not decapitate.

It makes me think why there is so much resistance to a non-biased investigation on chemtrails and what they contain.

It is also interesting how the mere interest/questioning of this phenomena is responded to with hostile name calling and ridicule.

Many scientists disagree with the government/NASA attempt to explain Chemtrails. This movie provides a plausible theory on the "Aerosol operation" or "chemtrails".

Underrated Movie
Freedom06028613 September 2023
This movie is better than the rating indicates. Anne Heche has been inconsistent in some other movies, but puts in a very good performance in this one.

The story is believable. The untrustworthy behavior of the government officials and military officers reminded me of some of the better episodes of The X-Files TV Series.

The direction is competent, I did not notice any serious flaws. It seems that most people haven't seen it, as we can tell by the relatively low number of ratings on IMDB.

Since this movie is now available on YouTube in 1080p HD for free, I recommend that people give it a try. I think most will not be disappointed.

A less than mediocre disaster genre movie...
paul_haakonsen2 September 2020
Sure, when I sat down to watch the 2008 movie "Toxic Skies", I must admit that my level of expectation wasn't exactly sky high. I mean, the movie's synopsis didn't really sell the movie all that well, and the movie's cast wasn't exactly something that had me thrilled either. But I hadn't seen the movie, much less heard about it, so of course I sat down to watch it now in 2020, as I had the chance to do so.

And I will say that "Toxic Skies" was not the worst of movies I have seen. However, it wasn't really an outstanding or particularly memorable movie experience either. The movie was watchable, and that was about it.

Story-wise then "Toxic Skies" felt a bit shallow and pointless at times, especially since writers Andrew C. Erin and Kyle Hart seemed to be stumbling about in the dark at times. The movie had its ups and downs, that was for sure, so there were moments of boredom in the movie as well.

As for special effects, well let's just say that you shouldn't expect to be blown away. However, it should be said though, that the movie wasn't really depending on having an overwhelming array of special effects to work its magic. The few effects that were there served their purpose, and that was it.

"Toxic Skies" does not bolster itself on having an overly impressive cast list. Anne Heche was the most prominent name in the movie, and even this wasn't her finest moment. Sure, she made it watchable, but she has much better movies to her name.

I suppose if you think "Outbreak" but without the interesting and intense storyline and impressive cast, then you have "Toxic Skies".

I was somewhat not properly entertained by what I witnessed on the screen as I sat through "Toxic Skies". And that results in a rating of four out of ten stars from me.

Stupidity must be punished
neilor-16 January 2024
Yes, stupidity should be punished, that's why the rating is "very bad". If the film aims to convince stupid people that the government is poisoning them from the sky, that they should put on tinfoil hats, not get vaccinated and hide in the basement, it succeeds in that direction.

But much better in that are conspiracy documentaries. We don't need to bother adding art, using actors. Stupid people will swallow anything thrown at them as long as it convinces them that they are good, but a bad government stands in their way and seeks to kill them.

Maybe years ago I would have said, so what, let there be movies like that. But after Covid I am convinced that such creations kill people. The authors of the film may not be bad people, but do bad. Stupidity must be punished.

One of the top ten worst
drdavev15 August 2022
The plot has more holes than a dozen golf courses, including the practice putting greens. Viruses aren't cured by vaccines, the don't create metal. Decontamination is a lot bigger deal than they show. No sterile technique in the hospital. Don't know how to run a code. No concept of biolab security. Should I go on? Acting, is poor, epilogue is trite. A waste of time unless you want to make fun of it along the way.

Scarred of chem trails? This movie will prove your right!!
chrismulkeyisgod26 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I have been researching American Government Conspiracies for awhile now on the internet (You Tube Included) and this movie rang true on my suspicions about the citizens of Washington State. Anne Heche (whom I'm just about in love with!!) stares as a "FRIENDLY"--someone who is not so ignorant to the truth as to look past it, but instead believes it. There are a lot of people with cold and flu-like symptoms coming into her hospital and they don't know what the reason is. The virus is contagious, and her friend at the hospital is bitten by one of the sick people so it's a race against time to find a cure and to uncover the fiendish plan. This movie was incredibly believable--I'm pretty sure the Ameri$an Government is up to this because those jet clouds stick around WAY LONGER THAN THEY SHOULD--anyone who does the research could easily find this out. I would recommend this movie for people who are interested in learning more about the tactics of conspirators whose main interest is in money and NOT in people. I didn't give the movie 10 stars because James Tupper did not Convince me at all. So I give the movie 8 stars--A GREAT watch for those late-night feasts!

Just boring!

Another one about an epidemic, this time caused by some substances (metals) spread by the jet fuel of airplanes. Anne Heche is simply constipated throughout the whole movie. The acting of the other actors is forced, nobody really believes in his role, in their lines. No stars, no nothing!

Deadly Business
SusieSalmonLikeTheFish25 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
These days conspiracy theories are all the thing, especially when social media gets involved...

But have you ever heard of chemtrails? You know, those long, funny looking jets of steam from planes in the sky? Some people think it isn't used jet exhaust, that corporations are dropping everything over The States and Canada, from pesticides to drugs to hazardous waste, radioactive materials, pharmaceuticals... even bioweapons, which is where Toxic Skies begins.

Tess is a highly successful and valued doctor working for the W.H.O. (World Health Organization), when she is called in during a serious crisis. Several civilians have gotten sick, including a university student girl, a hippie-looking guy who has a thing for one of the other doctors, and a woman about thirty years old. The victims are random, no connection to one another... but one man, a mysterious loner named Jack, has the answer in his conspiracy theorist beliefs on chemtrails. Could some corporation be involved? Is the virus being dropped on random people on purpose? Corporations are not evil (okay, aside from McDonald's). Most corporations are helpful in manufacturing needed products and employing people across the world. This movie is far-fetched, but remember, it is fictional, just presenting a scenario that actually could happen. Aside from the theory of chemtrails itself, which is rather long to dive into, the film itself is intriguing and filled with action. The characters are all unique and you want to find out if they survive. The acting was excellent, the soundtrack pretty good, the plot certainly original and the whole idea of people poisoned on purpose is frightening but surprisingly realistic. Combine Warning Sign (1985) with Criminal Minds, and you'll get Toxic Skies. I highly recommend watching it, I'm honestly very shocked that this little movie only has a 5/10 overall user rating. I personally really enjoyed it. Don't underestimate Toxic Skies, it might be just a small movie but once you see it, you'll be questioning all sorts of things in society.
