- In 1969, a young Jud Crandall has dreams of leaving his hometown of Ludlow, Maine behind, but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to Ludlow. Banding together, Jud and his childhood friends must fight an ancient evil that has gripped Ludlow since its founding, and once unearthed has the power to destroy everything in its path. Based on the never before told chapter from Pet Sematary, Stephen King's chilling novel, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is a spine-tingling prequel exploring the origins of how death became different in the small town of Ludlow and why sometimes dead is better.
- A farmer named Bill Baterman carries his son Timmy's body into the pet cemetery in Ludlow, Maine, where he is buried in 1969 after he was killed in the Vietnam War.
A hand suddenly erupts and snatches their dog Hendrix as he digs close to Timmy's grave after sensing something.
Jud Crandall is in a relationship with a young woman named Norma and resides with his parents, Dan and Kathy.
He will depart Ludlow to serve in Michigan with the Peace Corps.
A picture of Jud as a child with Timmy and another local young man, Manny Rivers, who lives nearby with his sister Donna and also has plans to leave Ludlow, is discovered by Jud when he runs into Bill on his way into town with Norma.
Bill gives the impression that Timmy has been honorably released and is back at home.
Jud and Norma leave for their trip the following day.
In front of the car, they discover Hendrix, who is snarling at them and appears dirty.
They see Timmy after walking the dog back to the Baterman residence.
Jud takes Norma to the hospital after Hendrix bites her arm.
Before he trips and impales his hand on a large thorn, Manny seems to hear sounds coming from deep within the crops and notices blood dripping off a sunflower.
Outside the hospital, Jud encounters Manny and tries to discuss Timmy with him.
Manny speculates that Timmy might have war-related PTSD.
Jud finds Timmy standing over a gored-to-death hog when he gets back to the Baterman residence.
He then runs into Bill and tells him about Hendrix. Timmy, meanwhile, is in the basement, using blood to write down the names of multiple Ludlow residents.
"I want to kill them before they kill me," he murmurs to himself.
Officer Marjorie Washburn returns home later that evening to find Hendrix there, along with Timmy making fun of her father's suicide.
Although she survives after killing Hendrix, she calls Mayor Hannibal Benson prior to the dog attacking her.
Timmy stalks and assaults Donna at home, chasing her into the crops and then snatching her.
Manny and Jud visit a priest, who shares with them the background of Ludlow and the pet cemetery.
The land was inhabited by the Mi'Kama tribe in 1674. The town was named after a settler named Ludlow, who vanished.
After burying him in the pet cemetery, his men discovered him eating human flesh before he was permanently killed again.
When Jud shares this information with his father, he discovers that the town's residents' ancestors have always kept the secret in order to keep others out.
After Timmy buried Donna in the cemetery, she became a monstrous undead creature.
She shows Norma her deteriorating skin when she visits her in the hospital.
After killing a doctor while chasing after Norma, Donna corners her in the main office and begins strangling her.
Later, when Manny joins the group to find Donna, Dan tries to gather up Mayor Benson, Marjorie, and Sheriff Anderson to find and kill Timmy, while Jud learns that Norma is in trouble.
Bill agrees to help, and they enter the Baterman residence.
Donna uses his own rifle to fatally impale Dan, while Timmy murders Anderson, Marjorie, and Mayor Benson.
Manny kills his sister by shooting her.
Bill leads Jud and Manny through a tunnel that Timmy constructed, where Norma has been restrained while the mud-filled hole she is in is growing.
After locating the three, Timmy disembowels Bill's son when he tries to put him down.
Timmy pursues Jud and attempts to drown him after he and Manny reappear in the swamp.
Timmy is permanently killed when Manny shoots a flare at his head.
Norma escapes her abyss and rushes back to Jud.
Following this, Manny departs Ludlow, while Jud and Norma remain with Kathy to carry on his father's mission of keeping the bad guys out of town.
