High school project?
bryan-6941419 July 2021
I admit that I could not make a better movie than this, but I bet my local high school students could. I enjoyed the movie for its comedy. If the movie was billed as a comedy I would have given it a 10/10.

Hard to believe, but there ARE worse movies
VetteRanger24 July 2021
This isn't as bad as your average sci-fi channel disaster, but they tried very hard to sink to that level.

The dialogue is about as bad as it gets, and it's all delivered with scene-chewing gravitas that made us sorry we had just eaten supper before we started watching it.

Did I mention the plot is absurd, and the characters spew nonsense intended to sound like science?

Evidently Tom Sizemore didn't want to embarrass the rest of the cast by displaying some acting ability.

It's like a bad 1980's sci-fi, put together by amateur filmmakers.
Top_Dawg_Critic5 July 2021
The directing was really bad with too many close-up shots that showed nothing that was really going on. Looking up and screaming "run" or "over here" (I was laughing hard), and then having to use your imagination of what's happening. But the screenplay was even worse, probably the worst ever. There were so many plot and technical issues. I'd say 90% of this film was riddled with ridiculous, unnecessary, and long dragged out scenes. This may have worked better as a 20-30 min short film, but the 87 min runtime with slow pacing was just wrong. There was way more useless and laughable filler, with very little substance for this screenplay. Was this even edited/cut down? The dialogue was so infantile and ridiculous - especially the science jargon, that sounded like it was written by a 5th grader, who apparently assumed an astronomer is the same as a bio-chemist lol. This should've had the genre "comedy" added to it, because you'll laugh more than anything else. What's even worse, it that the entire premise of the story, was an exact knock-off of War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise. Even the one scene when an arm breaks through the window after the daughter and dad saves the day lol. I'll give you one guess what the aliens weakness is. Writer/comedian Joe Roche should just stick to comedy, and never write another screenplay again... please.

The only redeeming qualities of this film was the excellent cinematography, the score that was bearable and somewhat fitting - rare for a B-grade film, and the aliens and their space/attack ships were surprisingly impressive, albeit a Tom Cruise's WOTW knock off. The casting and performances were adequate, and although I'm a fan of Tom Sizemore, he was just so bad and unconvincing - and laughable, as a general. It's like he couldn't wait for a scene to end so he can go have some drinks. I'd say it's his worst performance and character to date. Nevertheless, I surprisingly finished the entire film, even though I cringed at many scenes. It's a generous 2/10 from me.

What Happened To Tom Sizemmore?
smasica-3342622 July 2021
Tom Sizemore used to be a great actor. I know he's had a bad drug problem. During the filming of 'Saving Private Ryan', he was tested daily to keep him clean and sober. I wish he'd get himself straight. Tom can hardly talk and he physically looks like a hardened tweaker. He's got sores and blotches all over his face in this dreadful turkey of a film. I don't know how he gets roles given his sorry state, but look at his IMDB credits and he's got a ton of stuff in the pipeline. Sadly, they're all probably D-grade schlock like this mess.

TERRIBLE
salleypj19 July 2021
Stupid dialogue and you can't call this acting. Emily is especially cringe worthy. This abomination makes a 1950s Saturday kids matinee look like a work of art.

What a waste of money and time! Poor acting, poor plot, boring and full of clichés. Don't watch. Yikes. I'd expect a lot more from a movie shot in 2021 not a level of schoolkids shooting a video for an assignment.

Who finances this garbage?
doorsscorpywag22 August 2021
This is just Alien Conquest with the same CGI but different actors who come from the same 'Could not out act a lettuce' Academy.

There seems to be a competition among film makers as to who can make the worst WOTW movie.

We had the ones with C Thomas Howell which were bad but not as bad as.... the one with Tom Cruise which had -plus side good effects. Negative side -laughable aliens, rubbish script and Tom Cruise in it.

The BBC pitched in with a woke saga of two really boring unrealistic lovers for 3 hours but only 5 minutes of Martian activity.

Then a Fox Anglo/French TV one with robot dogs that had nothing whatsoever to do with WOTW and had no aliens.

WOTW from the 50s and its TV 80s spin off were Shakespearian compared to all the above garbage

It is the greatest Sci-Fi tale ever but nobody has had the brains to just do the book.

My wife and I have never laughed so hard
fwdtvn16 May 2021
This is the perfect mystery science theater movie. We never laughed so hard- if you want a really really good laugh, watch this- that's why I gave it the one star. My favorite scene was the guy crouched hiding inside a hollowed out tree behind his two lady friends while running from aliens. 😂😂

Another dreary copy.
vastdifference4 March 2021
This is another poor man's "The War of the Worlds." Yes, there's even an Oglivy, ala the H. G. Wells novel. There are at least tens of thousands of actors looking for work; couldn't anyone with a smidgeon of talent sneak onto these tired, unimaginative sets? A friend in the Arts said, "Don't copy what's been done; reply to it." This is an unintelligent copy with nothing compelling to drive the story. Why bother to show the Mars rover taking pictures of the Martian craft lifting off the red planet without delving into what could have been an interesting premise? Instead, it's nothing more than senseless destruction and Blair Witch parroting. This was free, and I still didn't get my money's worth.

Warning: Spoilers
I laughed I cried. I contemplated life. I fell asleep. Read the comments. All it needed was Jeff Goldblum and I would give it 10 stars.

Amazing scientific explanations and creative duo outsmart the aliens at their own game.

Tom Sizemore was... I forgot what he was.

Don't miss this flick.

A fine afternoon flick
valliant-8625426 March 2021
Once upon a time, we had matinees with cheesy double features. Now, we The Asylum; a production house turning out low-budget flicks on mirco-budgets. Their movies are not good in the traditional sense, but they will give you about an hour and half of action and adventure. Alien Conquest delivers. While lacking the goofiness of a Sharknado or Gatoriod, or the clear send up of the newest tent pole feature (see: Atlantic Rim (or see the new MST3K version)), it comes with a solid story, excellent pace, and better acting than expected. Its an hour and a half not wasted on a traditional, War of the Worlds-esque story. Extra props to Emily Killian, who was able to spit out piles of pseudo-science in a fairly believable way. Its a feat and a skill not to be discounted in sci-fi media! Though... those Soviet tanks...

What the heck happened to Tom Sizemore? He looks like hell. Everyone ages but my God. He looks bad.

I'm guessing he had to pay the producer to get included in this mess?

Total utter rubbish
davewallis-352641 August 2021
Poor storyline, even worse acting.

A high ranking military officer with only one assistant, two so called scientists the only ones apparently able to combat the aliens.

Totally unbelievable.

A waste of good film
rwnedved6 March 2021
This is the worst movie I have seen in years. The casting, acting and plot were horrible. The main female character spent most of the movie rattling off absurd science info. People moved miles from one scene to another instsntaniously. The only reason I watched the whole movie was that I was fooled into believing it was in theaters and I paid for it. No one has the guts to show this movie in a theater!

Ouch.
Sleepin_Dragon12 February 2022
Based on a novel by HG Wells, sort of like saying that Ghost Shark was inspired by Stephen Spielberg.

Don't be fooled into thinking this is anything at all to do with The Alien franchise, it really isn't. Credit to the promoters for producing some visually appealing marketing material.

I'd you can get through the whole of the movie, the you're doing well, it really is dire, I'll always try and look for positives, sadly with this one, there aren't any, with perhaps the exception of the end credits, they provide some real blissful release.

The dialogue is bad, and the sound somehow seems patchy, at times it's loud, at times it's quiet, perhaps the microphones were covered by the 'scripts.'

Tom Sizemore, he's done some awesome movies, but he's not afraid to do a few turkeys too, this surely being one of the worst.

Awful, 1/10.

Please don't watch
noumnoumnou15 March 2021
The script is not creative and the actors weren't convincing. Some of the cinematography choices were very strange. For example, the camera angles are constantly too close to the characters (maybe due to budget), but it really takes away from the setting of the story. The placement is usually too low so the audience is either looking upwards at the actors or eye-level with them, and the camera ALWAYS focuses on the characters.

Also, there is a large disconnect between the quality of the film and its cgi. Most of the time, the cgi looks fine/good, however, there are parts where it evidently lacks thought. The movie avoids showing the cgi (again, most likely because of budget), though it is so obvious when the camera is facing the opposite of where the actors are looking for the majority of the time.

Overall, just bad. Too much talking, not enough character/setting/anything development leads to a sleeper movie. Please waste your time watching a good movie instead of reading this review ;)

What the hell ?
jayroscoe13 July 2021
This movie reminds me of recent Sci Fi movies from Russia- good special effects, horrible acting and dialogue.

What has happened to Hollywood ? It's been a looong time since I've seen anything good come from there.

Just a cheap remake of War of the Worlds.

Waste of time

The worst science fiction movie I've ever seen. Even the scene of making a phone call from the hospital is a fiasco.

Watched with a mate whilst getting high. The low quality cgi made for great disappointment not to mention the god aweful camera work and script. My Nan could of done better and she is dead. But in All seriousness was a waste of my time.

All Talk, No Action, 5 Minutes of Aliens
Johnny_West30 June 2022
You get about five minutes of aliens spread out in 60 second increments five times. The other 95% of the movie is Emily Killian, the lead astronomer, grimacing and making faces as she is constantly terrified by things only she can see. Anthony Jensen is the other astronomer, and he is constantly yelling "run" at the top of his lungs, and then limping away really slowly.

Tom Sizemore is in this movie, and he is huge, and he looks like Uncle Fester from the Addams Family TV series of the 1960s. I could not understand anything he was mumbling. This movie is roughly thirty minutes of talking about fighting the aliens, then one minute of aliens CGI. Then more talking about the aliens and looking scared. Then one minute of aliens CGI.

The alien ships look a lot like the ships from the Stargate TV series. The aliens themselves look pretty generic. Nothing worth wasting 95 minutes of your time. I watched this movie in fast-forward, stopping only for the bits with the aliens, and even that 15 minutes seemed like three hours.

So bad, it was good
rebekahandjason3 June 2021
At first, we tried to get into this movie as though it were a serious film, but it was not too longe before the cringe factor started. At this point we decided to give in and accept this movie for what it was in all its cheesy glory. It was a fabulous laugh fest of snarky comments (made by us of course) it was truly an unbelievable and incredible movie. By that I mean nothing was believable or credible about the acting or the story. Me and my kids highly recommend this movie. Husband fell asleep so take that for whatever it's worth...

Good low budget movie
dieseldog33317 July 2021
I like low budget movies. As long as the acting is decent and the dialog isn't stupid.

The graphics were good but it looked too much like war of the worlds. You could have tried a little harder to be original there.

Where was the makeup artist? The girls looked good but you needed to even out the men's skin tones.

Over all a good late night flick. I watched it at 3am. Lol.

No Suspense
louise_cross-264079 March 2021
Unfortunately this remake/rework doesn't build any kind of suspense and the special effects are pretty naff. The actors don't bring the characters to life so it didn't make me care for them or what happened to them. It's a shame as I love this classic story, and it could have been so much better.
