Amazingly confusing!

Still 1st eps. But can't wait for the upcoming already, music is remarkable. Rose performance making it feels alive and full of spirit .. confusing that much that you might need to put down a time line to understand it .. recommended if you liked the butterfly effect.

And it begins!!!!

I've been so excited about this adaptation ever since it was announced. I'm a big fan of the book and I did enjoy the film but felt it didn't stick enough to the original material. This is a darker take than the movie and more loyal to the book and it's everything I hoped it would be. Rose and Theo are brilliant as ever. I don't want to spoil anything but strap in as your in for a ride. :)

Perfect set up for this story!
kutiehurst2 June 2022
This show has already done so well making Clare and Henry's timelines clear in a beautiful way. Especially in the first episode where they've jumped a lot. Introducing the small notes of how old they are in the corner was perfect and Theo James does INCREDIBLE acting to make it clear which Henry from which time he is portraying.

a romance for smart people who like to think
slycat-6758218 June 2022
I love the show ... it is entertaining, romantic and also makes you think... some episodes are very deep so it takes a special audience to lean in and appreciate all the details! I hope there are more people like me who find this to be a innovative breath of fresh air iand get a season two ! There is So much to watch right now ...the industry is saturated-- i know this will be one of those shows to slowly build momentum and sometimes that's just better than burning hot and burning out.

Episode 1
Prismark1024 May 2022
Clare is 20 years old. She goes to the library and talks to Henry who is 28 years old. He has met her for the first time.

To Clare though, she has know Henry she was 6 years old. Since then Henry has popped in and out of her life. He is a time traveller who first met Clare when he was 36 years old.

Clare knows that she will one day marry Henry but the 28 year old version is a jerk.

The best selling novel was turned into a movie in 2009. Now Steven Moffat has adapted it for television.

The timey wimey aspects of the story can be puzzling. Not if you are a Moffat era Doctor Who fan.

The fun for me was figuring which bits of Doctor Who did some of the concepts and lines came from. It seems the intricacies of the novel was an influence on him.

Entertaining

Really entertaining. Loved every second of it. While I do have a few minor issues with the episode it really got me in the feels. Especially the references to another time travel show. Cant wait to watch the next episode and I hope it gets another season and a another.

Hoping for better

The story was worth watching but not giing for snither episode. They failed to find a good female lead. The female lead is like someone from a remote farm in Iceland...not some woman raised with endless money. She still plays like she's a wild thing on Game of Thrones. The first movie also failed with their choice of female lead. Last I checked..there still are actresses that can play intelligent ..without screeching...and... not look like farm hands. Shame...I enjoyed the book.

More of the same.

HBO's adaptation of "The Time Traveler's Wife" looks like a very easy win on paper (written by timey-timey king, Steven Moffat, brought to life by the director of "The Red Wedding", David Nutter & overseen by the producers of "Sherlock") but somehow, as a final product, it feels very bland & ironically, dated...

The two leads have no chemistry whatsoever on screen; Rose Leslie is a phenomenal actress & Theo James is nice to look at but to say this is supposed to be a profound love story, spanning time itself, there's a noticeable lack of any spark between them. Hence, it's just... Meh.

Is the script clever? Yes, but the way in which paradoxical scenes have been constructed feels so stereotypically "Steven Moffat", I can't help but be underwhelmed by the feeling as though he's already done this before - far more effectively - & I don't get the feeling as though he's creatively challenging himself either. Thus, it seems like a very unimaginative, derivative rehash... Warranting a very unenthusiastic response.

What a disappointment
jcwjcw22420 May 2022
Was hoping for more. It was bad acting and ruined Henry for me. Usually love Theo James but he and Rose ? Have zero chemistry. Same with the little girl. All such a disappointment.

Story of a sociopathic time traveler
Rizzyay8 June 2022
The story seems interesting enough, but it really ruined it for me how the male protagonist has very sociopathic, rape-y, evil predatory vibe to him. Maybe he is supposed to be like that, and he turns out to be the villain of the story in the end? I don't know. Might watch another episode just in hope that I will be given some hint why the character acts the way he does. So far, I'm very unconvinced.

Pretty Exterior. Bland Interior.

Warning: Spoilers
It's hard to believe the same man who penned the mind-bending masterpiece "Heaven Sent", my favorite Doctor Who episode in its franchise, wrote this dull debut episode. Debut episodes are supposed to draw you in and leave you wanting more or at least peak your interest. This did neither for me. How to make a time-traveling love story boring? Cast two leads with no chemistry. At least, Theo James is likeable. Rose Leslie comes off as angry half the time. Where's the love, passion or longing? Instead you get the juvenile "it's complicated" line. Adults should be able to express themselves. What's this teenage, lazy, generic "it's complicated" explanation? It explains nothing. Where's the science? How does Theo James' Henry talk to younger and older versions of himself? There aren't parallel worlds with different Henrys. In the last 20 minutes, some man-bashing/feminist talk rears its ugly head. There's some other agenda pushing, some blatant, some subtle. And the show desperately tries to justify its MA-Rating with forced vulgar language and an overly nude Theo James. I never thought too much of a naked Theo James would get boring. He's been hot since the Underworld movies. He time-travels and arrives naked. We get. We get it. You can film a man naked without showing him butt-naked like 2009's PG-13 movie did. I've never read the book. I liked the movie, but I loved the leads, so Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams drove that movie for me. Nothing is driving this show. For the first time, Steven Moffat wrote and produced something that made me feel nothing.
