90 Minutes WITH A SMILE On Your Face.
MandalBros-59 May 2021
NEENA KULKARNI is the face of this movie. The film fully depended on her shoulders and she has done full justice with it. Sometimes her character started to talk to herself, those moments are hilarious.

In supporting cast, I loved little Vaishnavi as Teju and Chaitrali Rode as Shantabai for their beautiful expression.

All aged person can enjoy this film. It's a feel good movie.

Last 30 mins of the film is rewatchable. All the 3 Songs are also very enjoyable.

Watch it, I'm sure you'll love it. It'll leave you with a smile on your face.

Available on Amazon Prime Video.

A near perfect feel good movie : MUST WATCH!!
Rish_tweets7 May 2021
The movie is just a perfect mix of humor, emotions & reality. Crisp screenplay will keep you engaged.

Sarcastic people of Pune especially that 'solapur chatni ' lady made me laugh hard. Neena Kulkarni is good as always. Rest of cast does nice job.

Music goes well with the mood. Cinematography & production is at par.

Overall a must watch : surely will make you forget worries :)

Well Crafted Wry Humour !
indianature8 May 2021
I watched Photo Prem in orig. Marathi w/Eng. Subs on Primevideo.

Photo Prem is a refreshing change from the standard mostly mediocre fare that is passed off as "comedy genre". This film is wry humour at its best.

Neena Kulkarni is Maee, always sporting a tensed look on her face. At the funeral of her husband's colleague Joshi's wife, she realises that the deceased person has no photo to put in the mandatory frame. A suitable photo for the deceased to be remembered by ..... or the lack of it, arouses her interest and she starts scouring the photos in the newspaper obituaries page every day, realising that there is no half decent photo of herself that could be used for her obsequies, as she has always been shy of being photographed. The rest of the narrative revolves around Maees quest for a half decent photo that she would want her family to remember her by for posterity. Various sub plots also play out, fusing well with the main theme. Chaitrali Rode is excellent as Shanta the cheerful talkative maid. Geetanjali Kamble is the perfect busy body neighbourhood lady who Neena first meets at Joshi's wifes funeral, and then seemingly everywhere. Wonderful dialogues in those encounters!

The acting by all is really good, the dialogues and self musings crisp and witty, the sets realistic even as if you think about it, the story is not such far fetched fantasy after all. Good direction and cinematography and excellent music. The one flaw is that Maee is supposed to be 55 years old but actually looks closer to 70. Just a minor aberration.

Photo Prem is a well crafted film, worth watching.

Can't help but smile

Such a sweet, simplistic concept one wouldn't think twice of yet so deep and moving...Marathi movies have always been a class apart and this one is no exception. Neena Kulkarni character is endearing, funny and relatable...an Actor of exemplary calibre.

Weird movie
bapatapurva17 May 2021
Started as a funny light movie, and then a tragic twist. Don know what genre it aimed to be in. Over the top story. Three stars for Neena Kulkarni and one star for the rest of the actors.

My First Marathi Movie
IPyaarCinema13 May 2021
Review By Kamal K

Photo-Prem, helmed by Aditya Rathi and Gayatri Patel, the protagonist, Sunanda, also addressed respectfully as Maee (played by Neena Kulkarni), is also camera shy to the extent that she has a terrible fear of being being captured by the lens - paranoia that she has had ever since she was a teenager. It is never clear why she feels so, and as she grows older and gets married, it is revealed that she was not even to be seen in her honeymoon pictures. Her boorish husband (Vikas Hande), who keeps lording over her and hardly ever talks to her, complains in one scene that it appeared from the honeymoon pictures that he had gone all by himself. The directors, who are also writers, stretch this a little too far when Sunanda shies away from being photographed even during her own daughter's marriage.

But this changes when Sunanda attends the funeral of a woman, and notices her family scampering around trying to find a picture of her's for a newspaper obituary. Later, when Sunanda visits the woman's home, she sees the picture of a young girl on the wall; obviously the family could not find a later-day picture.

This incident pushes Sunanda to ponder about her own death and how her grandchildren can remember her in the absence of a photo. And the rest of the movie wanders through her attempt, punctuated by reluctance and a deep sense of inexplicable shyness, to get a picture of herself. This sudden obsession is not written with a sense of believable conviction.

And, Photo-Prem seems such a drag even with its relatively short runtime of 90 minutes, peppered as it is with inane situations. Incidents such as an acquaintance repeatedly accosting Sunanda on the street with questions, and her own daily conversations with her house-maid are at best silly, and if the writers had fancied that these would produce laughs, they could not have been wide off the mark.

However, there is something to take away from the core plot, which seems to be covertly lambasting the modern world's obsession with selfies and photographs. But this is hardly fleshed out.

Simplicity with perfection!
patelamit_a27 June 2021
Marathi movies are a power-house of content and acting. This movie is all about Neena Kulkarni.....watch it just for her. What a natural actor she is. I can't even say she was acting, that was the power of her performance. This movie will make you laugh uncontrollably. My wife who is Gujarati watched this movie without subtitles. This is tells you how simple, engaging and beautiful it must be.

Why a photograph is worth a thousand words !!
madhukar303 June 2021
Photo Prem is a kind of movie that will put a big smile on your face while the movie ends. Many movies are about the journey but gets really botched up at the end, but Photo Prem has a fair share of botched up moments throughout its journey but wipes out errors entirely and puts in a very strong moments in the last ten minutes or so, to leave your heart full. Directors Gayatri Patil and Aditya Rathi shine in parts of the movie, but their work overall is amateurish and is not good enough to take on a project like Photo Prem. Their approval of a horrible and a horrendous score is a proof enough to the above statement.

Cinematography is again a mixed bag, and has some good shots mixed along with some terrible ones. Screenplay is what Photo Prem is all about and with a well written character in the lead, the screenplay pivots the storyline and accentuates the other characters along the way. Editing is generally good but shows some amounts of weakness in the middle, but with a runtime of 94 minutes, it's easy on our heads. Production design, costumes and makeup are par but barring a couple of songs the background score is both horrendous and horrible, it actually spoils some very well made & cut scenes single handedly. Neena Kulkarni as Maee puts in her career best performance and has to be appreciated for her performance towards the end of the movie, ably supported but some good and largely mediocre performances in the supporting roles.

Overall, Photo Prem is a feel good movie based on a trivial issue. The movie has some strong writing & acting performances towards end, as it is 94 minutes it's not long and deserves a try despite a horrendous background score and mediocre scenes in between. The movie would suit audiences above forty year age groups. In hands of a good or a seasoned director, with better treatment, Photo Prem is definitely Film festival stuff with its lead actresses and script. It is Worth a try, if you are looking up to see something different. 6.7 stars out of 10 for an innovative storyline and a strong lead performance.

Photo-Prem is wayfaring in order to be in a memory and remembered.
This story is about an introvert woman who has tremendous reservations about simple photograph being captured. She decides to get one taken by facing her phobia of photographs. The journey of a housewife to conquer the fear of camera is remarkably captured. The story writing and direction is outstanding. A rare way to see human emotion and feeling is beautifully noted. The humor is observational and intelligent. The music does nothing but justice to the movie.

Lot more than a film that merely exists to tell you a story. It is an exquisite piece of artistic cinema, that will stay with you for years to come. It is landmark achievement by one of the most important storytellers in the present generation of Marathi filmmaking, Gayatri and Aadi. Acting by Neena Kulkarni is heartfelt and brilliant.

Beautiful!
vinnysharma-742972 June 2021
I do not review movies often but here I am just after finishing the movie.

Being camera shy myself I loved every bit of the movie. It was so relatable that it seemed like she was portraying me from the future. I think people who're camera shy would enjoy it for its relatability and people who can face cameras should watch it just to know what it feels like to be camera shy.

Acting by the whole cast, Anjali Kambli (the lady from the funeral), Chaitrali Rode (Shantabai) & especially by Neena Kulkarni (the protagonist) hit all the right spots. Neena played with her eyes & absolutely killed it.

Loved the song played around the ending of the movie - Have Tase by Shalmali Kholgade! Epic music and vocals!

9 stars because it could have been a little fast paced during the middle, it felt a little stretched out in some parts. And apart from the pacing, background music could have been better, it doesn't go well with the movie and is a bit too pretentious & loud without any reason.

But overall a good watch! :D.
