Cute, But Not For Everyone
Tayyasqueen8 July 2022
This show is for a younger crowd and definitely a little cheesy. But it is well made and endearing. For laying on the couch with a migraine, it has been a lovely, mindless binge watch. I think it's sweet and the actors do a nice job.

Warning: Spoilers
So I decided to watch this little film little little show because I love Lana and I think she's amazing actor but while watching the show I think from like episode five through six she was like a real real mean friend towards Gia and I was not going for it I had to skip to episode eight because it was way too cringe for me And you can tell Gia was just trying to be there for her but She wasn't there for Gia. At the end I think Gia passing away really hit me because she was such a nice person and for her to be the one to leave it was sad I almost cried she didn't deserve to the leave.

Simultaneously Stupid and Cute
arod_8520 July 2022
This show is a cheesy teen comedy with a silly storyline. I thought it would be along the lines of Mean Girls but it was aimed at a little younger audience then I was thinking when I started the show. However, it was cute and it doesn't take itself too seriously. It almost reminded me of those Disney channel or Nickelodeon teen movies they used to make that were actually kinda cute like "Susie Q", "Descendants", or "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" with a little more mature content (a couple references to sex, condoms, and some profanity). Teen girls that have just grown out of Disney Channel would probably enjoy this most.

Cute and endearing
bcirilli9 July 2022
The beginning seemed like any other teen film around high school, prom & being an outcast and I liked it. The character in the middle episodes was truly annoying & I nearly stopped. But, the end... the end is where the heart is and that was worth it. I didn't think I'd end up crying but I totally did. It's a good reminder of what's important in this world.

Plot holes!
ebeattiesmith11 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So many plot holes. Where are Gia's parents? Why are there no adults at this high school? Why does nobody notice Gia has disappeared off the face of the earth?

Had High Hopes
PhoenixWatches3 October 2022
I enjoyed the aesthetic of the movie and the teen vibe was on point, however, the plot of the story is really quite annoying and even upsetting as it goes on.

Lana's character goes from scared wall flower to rancid witch to... everyone's friend? Except that last part happens in one episode, and only in the last quarter. She did so many incredibly insufferable things to everyone around her, but the part where she's supposed to become likable again is incredibly rushed and there's no satisfaction or real closure. A majority of the show is her turning into a really awful friend and person and then the last episode pretty much wants us to forget all that, or to at least be all 'poor her'. If this was made in the days of TV and weekly episodes, it might have felt better, but on Netflix where they know people will binge... it was just not a good ending, or the ending was good, but the character 'development' was super pushed onto the audience instead of allowing us to get to like the main character again by showing us she deserved it.

As a person, there are so many things she did that I would have never been able to forgive, but somehow her best friend does (I guess?). There were a lot of points where I had to turn the show off and take a break, either from second hand embarrassment for how ridiculously shallow and callous she was being or from very real anger at how she treated everyone around her.

The acting was good, the outfits were AMAZING, but the storyline could have used an episode or 2 more. Or even less mega witch time and more 'I'm learning from my mistakes and making amends' would have brought this up to a 9 or 10. I'm not even sure about my 8 star rating, it may end up being a 7 after I finish this review.

Watch it for the aesthetic and actors, not for whatever the development was supposed to be teaching us (it's ok to be super horrible to everyone who likes or loves you as long as you give a 5 minute speech at prom). I mean, Mean Girls killed this concept, Boo, B!tch dropped it on the floor halfway through. Disappointed, for sure.

CRINGE.....
littleblue-4145011 July 2022
They should have named this show "CRINGE, B*tch'

Plot holes galore, not funny in the slightest and the acronyms were beyond annoying. The characters were not relatable and so vapid. I was hoping they'd all get crushed by a moose!

I feel bad for Lana Condor for having to be swept up in this garbage. Do yourself a favour and watch anything else but this!

Cute for what it is.

Warning: Spoilers
I think this was cute. Idk why so many people didn't like it. It's a fun little show. There may have been an Annoying use of acronyms, and some stupid bullying, but it's a sweet, and emotional show.

Definitely think Gia deserved better, but I thought it was a twist and in the end an overall decent show. Some people need to stop being so critical and enjoy it for what it is instead of criticizing it. It's not the most amazing work of art but I definitely think it's worth a watch.

It's no Never Have I Ever
thistlecreek1-113 August 2022
It doesn't have the same level of sophistication as Never Have I Ever. But it's not bad, it's a sweet show, so far (episode 3).

It's enjoyable, but it's lacking the depth of some other teen based shows. This doesn't make it bad, just different, as an adult I enjoy a range of shows including many geared towards teens. This is lighter fare comparatively speaking, but still enjoyable.

Waste of time (light spoilers)
owenjudge-8104320 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The show starts out watchable and fun for the first few episodes. Seems like a generic "leave a legacy while I can" type thing and then it introduces the twist that one of the main characters is dead but is still living to do one last thing.

However, the show quickly devolves into a typical teen drama but it executes it very poorly. The "besties" split up and there's love drama. However where this show critically fails for me is how they turn the main character into an unlikeable menace. For much of the show the main character is simply just unlikeable, and I found myself waiting for the show to switch away and focus on other characters. But, the show seems convinced that this is the character that the audience cares about, and stays on her no matter what. Then the ending is also bad. What the show is all building up to is underwhelming. And by the end of the show, the main character that everyone hated like 5 minutes ago is treated like her touch is gold and everyone wants to be around her. There are so many good shows on Netflix, so do yourself a favor and avoid this.

Good cheesy hangover watch
tanyasilverman9 July 2022
I really enjoyed this, not sure how people could rate it quite do badly. It's exactly what you think it would be with a lot of tropes and the 'twist' was a bit obvious from the start but I knew exactly what I was gonna get and it delivered on that.

Definitely teen, touching at times...also pretty disturbing.
butterflyandsamurai6 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I mean it treated death, death of a kid at that...like it was some joke, the devastation wasn't there.

...the girl didn't look, nor act 18.

Yet she was all alone, dead...and no one even knew, ever.

...even at the end, she was just decomposing somewhere.

So while goofy, and childlike in most areas...it treated this horrifying event like it had little meaning.

...maybe I'm too empathetic, dunno.

It just felt so shallow, and trite.

...I will say the one lead, did a decent Joffrey.

She became extraordinarily unlikable, just a hideous person...and her dead best friend, was very sweet.

...overall, I feel no major desire to ask the TV Gods for my time back.

It wasn't entirely mind numbing, and had endearing moments...but for me, I just pictured a mother without her child, a child dying alone, and afraid.

...and too much nonchalance at the end.

Started kind of ok, ended great!
rivblue-322489 July 2022
This show turned out to be really good after the first 5 or 6 episodes. I'm glad I stuck it out. Before those, it was maybe ok. I really enjoyed the twist. After that Is when I started to enjoy it a lot more even though I really hated the mean girl change in the lead actress.

Miscast
wesleythegnome11 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
For me the main issue is that while Zoe Margaret Colletti still manages some of the youth, playfulness and exuberance of a high schooler - Lana Condor doesn't. She looks too old, and too out of place with the rest of the cast.

Additionally, she's the most heavy-handed actor on the show. When she's morose, she's unlikeable. The one scene where she has to act out angriness, she looks like she wants to rip Colletti's spine out. When she's acting bitchy and self-absorbed, it's with such commitment that we start rooting against the character. It's always too much, there's not enough layers to the performance. How could a character flip-flop between empathy and utter cruelty like that? Unless they are secretly always vacuous and cruel deep down, but work hard to hide it, because they know it's socially unacceptable. I wish she'd shown some restraint or heartfelt insecurity, so we could connect with the character on a deeper level.

Then she shows up at prom and manages to make her friend's passing about herself, once again. Everyone instantly forgives her and she goes on to live a lovely fulfilling life, with occasional quirks like a lava lamp heating up instantly. This redemption feels unearned. All she did for her best friend was go to a party and cry to a group of people about how hard it is on her that her bestie is dead.

By the end, I was sad Lana's character wasn't actually the one who had died. The best friend had to fight to get Lana's character to have the tiniest amount of fun with her, and then immediately dies. She's loveable but underwritten, an afterthought to facilitate Lana's character being awful to her.

I liked Lana Condor as an actor just fine, but now I realise it was because her other roles haven't been very demanding. It was enough for her to show up, act mild and soft, and be beautiful. This show made me rethink the extent of her skill.

good, but too much boring dramas
umisa-8901628 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There's TWO main character. DUH?! Erika is just take all the lights. It needs more both sided scenes or Gia's problematic scenes. We only seen few of them. It needs more of Gia. AND we need to see more scenes of side characters. For example, Jake C. He is the seed of these drama of Erika and Reiga. He needs to step up and try to solve these. He's literally sits there and being sad about being "THE DRAMA ADDICT". Well if he don't like that he need to step up say things. Not just sits there and mumble. This show need some reality, and lose some of the drama. We don't need drama all over again. We need some words or some chill scenes.

Simply bad, almost gawdawful.
gatorgus4815 July 2022
Not sure who this nonsense is aimed at. Language and some themes for adults. Acting, dialogue and plots for tweens.

I thought it might get better as it developed. Nope:

The first few episodes are rough, but it gets much better after that
mmccauley-523094 August 2022
I'm a 50 year old man. Not quite the target demo for this show. I nearly turned it off after the first 20 minutes, but I was surprised when I realized I'd made it through four episodes. This show isn't going to win any awards, but when it's over, you'll be glad you stuck with it. The cast is good enough, I don't care that most them are well into their 20s and playing teenagers, and plot holes don't matter. Just have fun watching it!

sfier-5443110 July 2022
I really wanted this to be a fun campy show but it was just bad. I was so bored the characters are all super mediocre and it's just not good. Unlikable cringey boring characters with so little plot like I got wine drunk and still didn't enjoy it..... Hire better writers! Also horrible representation of Gen Z :0.

Yeah there some cringe moments, but I liked storyline and some characters. Def better than First Kill. Not sure why people hate this show. Easy to watch. Teen oriented tho.

Sweet and funny, yet turns into dark drama
dreamingskychild15 July 2022
If you're looking for something to watch that's sweet, cheesy, fun and the good kind of cringe, then this will tick some boxes. I love the quirky and emotional performances by the two main actresses! What I wasn't expecting about this show however, was for it to turn into a dark drama. I consider it overall to be a very honest look at how social media and social hierarchies can effect mental health and relationships, especially within youth. I'm glad I watched this. If you are looking for something that's only light-hearted all the way through, then this may not be the show for you. Otherwise, I do recommend.

Boo...what a **** show!
qureshifib11 July 2022
So where do I start? YES! I HAVE WATCHED ALL EPISODES. I absolutely don't understand how someone in their right mind would give this show more than 4 stars?!

I was avoiding this show on Netflix, but since I had nothing else to do I decided to click play, and oh boy do I regret it. It feels like the teenage drama tv show was trying to be something, which itself didn't know what exactly. I kinda feel insulted as this show ticks off all the wrong kind of boxes. Clichè and Cringy elements are the plot, literally. Loser trying to be Famous? Check. Loser girl has crush on famous boy? Check. Loser girl has a bestie? Check. Loser girl ditches bestie? Check. Prom? Check. The only unique thing about this show is the dead/almost dead girl, but again if the only aspect that tried to keep the show afloat, was a dead girl, well it wouldn't survive. Ugh. Lana Condor, sorry but this show will not live up to To All The Boys!

Ignore the crazy person saying it's pushing medication. Mentioning Wellbutrin isn't indoctrinating kids you weirdo lmfao. It's a fun, comfortable show. It's funny and the acting is fine. Some corny moments but it feels purposeful.

Warning: Spoilers
This show was brilliant.

It knows it's dumb and portraying every cliché possible.

I loved it because you can just tell that Lana had fun filming it.

The outfits were amazing, and honestly I was surprised by the twist of Ericka not being dead. It's a very fast and light hearted show, I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to see more of Lana in other roles

It was evidently cringe at times but it's a self aware show so I didn't mind.

Who is this for?
thisoneisnew12 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't get this show.

The acting is terrible first of all. But they are supposed to be in high school (?) but acting like 12 year olds sometimes but then for the most part they are acting like they are 25-30 and cursing more than i do who is 35.

Could have been a cute story about how important friendship is but it all falls apart. Do not watch this even if you are bored. I unfortunately did watch it and i want my time back :P.
