Brian Baumgartner said that moment of Kevin spilling the chili was done in one take. Originally it was planned that he would have three chances to get the scene right, but after seeing the first take there was no need to do it again. He also said that after filming the scene, "It was a Friday night, and I remember going to Mastro's and sitting there after showering and showering and smelling like chili. My skin had just absorbed all of this chili. It was so disgusting and horrifying."

Dwight's idea of dressing casually is not wearing a necktie. Angela's idea of dressing casually is wearing short sleeves (exposing her elbow). Meredith's is not wearing a bra and panties.

While working as a writer on the show, Mindy Kaling was vehemently opposed to the premise for the cold open in which Kevin drops his chili. She became so upset that she stormed out of the writer's room, taking a case of water bottles with her, as she was sure that her actions would warrant her dismissal. They didn't, of course, and she returned to work.

While writing the second round of memos to the sales team, Dwight uses a mug with Ryan's face on it for the "invisible ink" (which was made of Dwight's urine). This mug was one of several face mugs given to staff members who attended Kelly's America's Got Talent wrap party in Customer Survey (2008).
