Cannes, May 25 (Ians) In a candid interview with ‘Deadline’ at Cannes, Sunny Leone talked about how one call from ‘Bigg Boss’ enabled her to transition from an adult film star of some 12 year’s standing (2001-13) to a mainstream film star with 30 projects behind her, walking the red carpet of the world’s most prestigious film festival.
In Cannes for the world premiere of Anurag Kashyap’s cop noir movie ‘Kennedy’ in the Midnight Section, Leone told ‘Deadline’ how ‘Bigg Boss’ executives relentlessly pursued her. They even sent the Canadian Indian actress a powerpoint presentation to convince her to come on board.
She remembered telling her then boyfriend, now husband, who urged her to commit: “‘You’re out of your mind — I’m not going to India, they’ll hate me.’ I’ve already gone through so much hate in that community.”

Actor Rahul Bhat, is set to go to the Cannes Film Festival for the second time as his upcoming film ‘Kennedy’ recently became India’s official selection at the Festival De Cannes 2023. The film, which recently got its poster unveiled, served as a dichotomy for the actor as he felt that it ripped him apart and stitched him together at the same time.
‘Kennedy’ is essentially a police noir film, a space that filmmaker Anurag Kashyap revels in and finds his expertise.
Rahul has worked with Kashyap in the 2013 film ‘Ugly’ and ‘Dobaaraa’. Sharing his experience of working with Kashyap in ‘Kennedy’, Rahul said, “Three years ago, my life fell apart and just when I felt I couldn’t plunge deeper into an abyss, there came along Anurag Kashyap who showed me facets of darkness that I didn’t even know existed within me. Indian auteur Anurag Kashyap is back in Cannes with thriller “Kennedy,” starring Rahul Bhat in the title role.
The film, which also stars Sunny Leone, will play in the Midnight Screenings strand of the festival. Several films directed by Kashyap have played at Cannes, including “Psycho Raman” (2016), “Ugly” (2013), “Bombay Talkies” (2013) and “Gangs of Wasseypur” (2012). In addition, several films produced by him have made it to the Croisette, including “Masaan” (2015), “The Lunchbox” (2013), “Monsoon Shootout” (2013), “The Congress” (2013) and “Udaan” (2010).
The plot of “Kennedy” is being kept under wraps at the moment. “Kennedy is a ghost in the system looking for redemption,” is how Kashyap describes the film to Variety.
The filmmaker says that the character of Kennedy has been an obsession with him for years and was born when fellow Indian filmmaker Sudhir Mishra hired him to write a cop story set in the 1980s. That film never got made but the character stayed with Kashyap.

People now just refuse to come to the cinemas. This changed attitude was demonstrated recently when few people turned up to watch either Akshay Kumar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ or Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. A week later, the same reluctance was evident for the comparatively smaller film, ‘Do Baaraa’.
‘Raksha Bandhan’ and ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ were both released in the same week to cash in on the extended holiday period starting with the festival of Raksha Bandhan on August 11, leading up to Independence Day, and ending with the Parsi New Year on August 16. When two high-profile films have been released in the same week at other times, often both have proved to be successful and there was no reason why these two should not have taken advantage of this long weekend and reap the benefit. Sadly, there were no takers for either!

Film: ‘Dobaaraa’ (Releasing in theatres). Duration: 132 minutes.

Ians rating: ***1/2
Anurag Kashyap has returned ‘dobara’ (once again) with ‘Dobaaraa’, two years after his last streaming movie ‘Choked’ on Netflix. The film not just marks his reunion with his ‘Manmarziyaan’ actress Taapsee Pannu, but also marks his return to the genre of thrillers, his last outing being the Vicky Kaushal and Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’.
The film is an official remake of the Spanish mystery-drama film ‘Mirage’.
Kashyap, who is known for his offbeat stories, doesn’t miss a beat in the film as he sketches up a fine thriller that will keep you hooked till the last frame and will linger in your thoughts long after you have stepped out of the cinema.

Anurag Kashyap’s Dobaaraa featuring Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati is an official remake of the 2018 Spanish film ‘Mirage’. The film could find a slot in the time travel zone or going by the last scene, it could be a ‘Baar Baar Dekho Returns’. This time around Anurag Kashyap has dabbled with the latest global fad with the term ‘multiverse’ or ‘parallel universe’ or still a ‘time travel’ of sorts. It seems Taapsee is also got into a time loop what with Looop Lapeta and now this.
Dobaaraa is this multi-temporal film, even the title has layered implications; Dobaaraa means ‘again’ as also ‘Do (2) Baaraa (12)’, which is important to the premise, with characters simultaneously existing in parallel universes and manipulating events in the past to alter the future.
Anurag seems to have retained the basic (Mirage) plot and adapted it to the Indian mindset, who may not be too comfortable...

On a day when the media was invited to a screening of his directorial, the mystery drama ‘Dobaaraa’, Anurag Kashyap did what Aamir Khan is famous for doing — let everyone know that he’s still good friends with his ex-wives. ‘Dobaaraa’ is awaiting its big-screen release on August 19.
Kashyap posted a happy picture on Instagram of him with his two ex-wives: Aarti Bajaj, the film editor whom he was married to between 2003 and 2009, and Kalki Koechlin, the actress and author who made her Bollywood debut with his 2009 film, ‘Dev D’. He called them his “two pillars”, to which his daughter Aaliyah responded with one telling word: “Iconic”.
Kashyap, as Aaliyah told the world, had a happy Sunday brunch with Aarti, who, incidentally, is the editor of ‘Dobaaraa’ and has been associated with her ex-husband since the time he made his first film — the short thriller ‘Last Train to Mahakali’ for...

Taapsee Pannu once again is taking on an incredible character and challenging herself in Anurag Kashyap’s new supernatural thriller Dobaaraa, where she plays a young woman trapped between two lives in different decades. It is 26 years. One unsolved mystery. And countless unanswered questions.
Talking about the film, which is based in the Spanish film Mirage, Taapsee told Variety, “Time travel or two time zones connecting is not new from an international point of view, but from an Indian point of view it is new, because we haven’t seen much of it in mainstream Hindi cinema. Indian actor Taapsee Pannu is on a roll. She has just won best actress at India’s prestigious Filmfare awards for her role in Anubhav Sinha’s “Thappad” and wrapped shooting Anurag Kashyap’s “Dobaaraa.”

Pannu began her career in South Indian cinema, debuting with Telugu-language “Jhummandi Naadam” in 2010, followed by Tamil-language “Aadukalam” (2011), which won a clutch of accolades at India’s national film awards. Even after breaking through into the Hindi-language Bollywood film industry, Pannu continues to act in South Indian films.
Early on in her career, Pannu made the bold (for India) choice of not being an ornamental foil to the leading man, instead switching to powerful, women-centric roles.

Mumbai, March 14 (Ians) Actor Pavail Gulati, who recently shot an ad with actress Alia Bhatt, says that he likes taking up ad shoots. However, the actor adds that the short time doesn't allow him to interact with everyone else on the set.
"Filming for ads is fun. The only difference between shooting for a film and shooting for an ad is, I think, the time involved to shoot. For an ad, you shoot only for a couple of days, so you don't get to interact with everybody like you do on a film set. You work for a longer time on a film set and that kind of brings you closer together," says Pavail, who has been seen in film such as "Ittefaq", "Thappad" and "Kalank".
Talking about filming his recent ad with Alia, Pavail says that the entire experience was amazing. "It was a fun, quirky shoot. I had a blast.
