One of the major parts of the discussion was the age-old debate of star vs actor.
Kareena Kapoor Khan was asked about how it has been 23 years, and she has been constantly fighting to prove her worth as an actor and prove the fact that she is more than her looks. Filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, who is known for films like ‘Andhadhun’, ‘Johnny Gaddaar’, ‘Agent Vinod’, ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ and others, recently attended the Jio Mami Mumbai Film Festival panel for ‘Word to Screen’ discussing the possibilities of the screen adaptations of written material.
It’s often said that films don’t do complete justice to the books on which they’re based on given the time constraint.
However, the medium of long-format storytelling like television series or a streaming series comes with enough bandwidth with regards to time and exploring deeper nuances of a book.
However, Sriram feels that it’s not always that a book translates extremely well on screen. For him, it’s a very “case specific” thing.
The filmmaker said, “Books are an entirely different medium. How good the adaptation of a book to screen is it’s a very case specific thing. There have been many examples...

Can you, as a viewer believe everything that you see ?
What’s more common–hiding in plain sight or seeing things and pretending not to see them?
Both these questions are central to the premise of Sriram Raghavam’s 2018 hit Andhadhun
These are only questions I can pose in this article and not answer because of the possibility of spoiling the film and its many surprises for those who haven’t seen it yet. Those who have, know what I’m talking about. While the first question is central to the film’s final payoff, the second lingers on for much of its running time. It is worth mentioning that Raghavan and his writers, which includes the editor and long-term collaborator Pooja Ladha Surti, have created a thriller that sidesteps the conventional whodunit formula. It’s made abundantly clear to us who the killers are and who and what is shielding them.

It was predicted in this column last week that Phantom would take an opening in the same range as Badlapur (7 crore) and Drishyam (8 crore). As it turned out though, the Kabir Khan directed film had a slightly better Friday, as it went on to bring in 8.5 crore at the Box Office. This was indeed a positive outcome for Saif Ali Khan since his last couple of solo starrers, Happy Ending (4 crore) and Bullett Raja (7.5 crore) had met with a poor fate. In comparison, the word of mouth as well as critical appreciation was better as well, which helped the Sajid Nadiadwala production grow further over the weekend.
This was evidenced in collections that jumped further on Saturday (12.78 crore), which was also a holiday due to Raksha Bandhan, and then Sunday (13 crore*), as a result of which Phantom managed to bring in around 34 crore. Now this is a heartening sign for...

While she is an actor par excellence, it seems Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan also loves (rather wants) to be known as the 'item queen'. In past few years she has done an array of exotic and naughty dance numbers (in films like Gabbar, Heroine, Dabnagg 2, Don, Billu, Agent Vinod) and now she adds yet another track to her list with 'Mera Naam Mary Hai' from the film Brothers.
While Kareena tries every bit to grab eyeballs with her latkas and jhatkas, hoot for her, Bebo somehow looks too sophisticated for the cheesy item number. Well, here are the five reasons that will make you also believe how Kareena looks a misfit in this song or she is simply not meant to do these numbers. Take a look:

Badlapur is a story about revenge. Directed by Agent Vinod’s director Sriram Raghavan, and starring Varun Dhawan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi, Yami Gautam and Divya Dutta, this thriller drama narrates the story of Raghu (Dhawan), and how his life falls into pieces when his wife and son are killed in a bank robbery. One of the robbers, Liak (Siddiqui), is caught by the police and sent to jail, but his partner escapes with the money. Filled with anger and distress, Raghu devotes his life to take revenge on those who destroyed his world and will wait 15 years to fulfil his revenge, his “badla”.

In the times of Twitter world turning trade experts, anything and everything is being accepted on face value, as long as it is sensational. Even though Varun Dhawan had made it crystal clear that Badlapur is his most cost effective as well as quickest shot film ever, there have been rumors of all kind floating around the Sriram Raghavan film. One such story making the rounds is around the film's budget. "It is being said that the film has cost Rs. 50 crores to the makers (Eros and Dinesh Vijan). This is sheer nonsense and doesn't carry any basis whatsoever. The film has been made at around Rs. 16 crores with Rs. 9 crores set aside for P&A (Print and Advertising). This comes to around Rs. 25 crores, which is just perfect for a film like Badlapur which is commercial in its own way," informs our well-placed source. Though no one associated with...

Saif Ali Khan will be playing a funny part in his next film Happy Ending, besides playing the lead hero. Saif will be seen playing the role of Yudi (the lead) and Yogi (the cameo). Directors Raj & Dk who are known from their unique and different films have put across a quirky element in the film. While designing the character of Yogi, the first person who came to the mind of producer Dinesh Vijan was none other than music director Pritam. Pritam and Dinesh Vijan have worked in the past on films like Love Aaj Kal, Cocktail and Agent Vinod. When Dinesh told the director duo about the same, they jumped with laughter. They were delighted with this thought and decided give Saif's character a look inspired by Pritam.

Bollywood’s young heartthrob Varun Dhawan speaks to Sunny Malik about his second film, Main Tera Hero, directed by his father and well-known filmmaker David Dhawan.
Main Tera Hero releases in UK cinemas on 4th April 2014 through Eros International.
You made a successful acting debut with Student Of The Year, and were praised for your acting skills by critics and audiences. Do you feel the pressure now that your second film is releasing?
I think, comedy as a genre is one of the most difficult genres to crack for an actor. Having said that, for a lead actor, you need to be romantic, intense and be a hero and on top of that, you need to be goofy and funny too. Sometimes you need to pull off a British kind of humour with straight face. That’s what I needed to do in Main Tera Hero and I have tried it.
