No way to treat dr. Glassman!
MyAriel7 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watch this show because it has at it's centre a doctor who is autistic, and accepted because of his special skills, despite his awkward social behaviour. Since I'm on the spectrum, I have a special interest in this and in general I'm fond of hospital series.

But this episode made me lose much sympathy for dr. Audry Lim and Claire. I thought the characters could get along with each other quite well despite all their differences. But it turns out that Dr. Lim and Claire are quite resentful people. Why does dr. Lim lash out to dr. Glassman with 'says a white guy?' Glassman does not deserve this hostility. Glassman does not respond but I wish he had said something back along the lines "Well, I cannot help being white, and I 'm surprised by your resentment towards me, actually it hurts." Or anything in that direction. And why does Claire conclude that the reason she wanted to prove to be a good medical student was 'to please white people'? I want to shout at Claire 'No one is asking you to please white people, just please yourself!' It seems this episode wants to promote the idea of 'white privilige' and 'systemic racism'. Well, I don't think it's a privilege to be singled out as some sort of scapegoat just because of the color of your skin. Says a white chick.

I will keep on watching 'The Good Doctor' because of my admiration for Freddy Higmore's acting skills, but I hope it won't get more woke!

Might be skippable
mmwedeking19 February 2021
This episode tried to do a few too many things. Address and explain racial profiling, the whole pregnant man thing, Shaun's work crush. It just didn't all fit well together and felt a little underwhelming. They could've saved one of the subplots for another episode. The reason I don't give this a lower score is because it wasn't terrible it was just below average for this show's reputation.

Watchable, but too PC
jgreeley-6447217 February 2021
It was an ok episode I get that these issues come up in medicine, but seems like it could of been spaced out better and not pushed on the audience all at once.

Worst episode of an increasingly lacklustre series
johndavidson-112 May 2021
This started off as an interesting medical drama with a quirky lead who has autism but is a very skilled physician.

That story has run its course and by this season the show is a pretty standard hospital soap with an ensemble cast.

The two major themes of this week were institutional racism and gender reassignment.

These are complex issues requiring intelligent & sensitive writing if they are to avoid preachiness or shallow clichés.

Sadly the writers have neither of these to hand so we are bludgeoned instead.

Horrible Season
cwmoment22 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This season's under-doctor actors are dull, bland, and without any personality. They are more annoying than entertaining. Also this season's writing is forced, sketchy, and unintelligent. It's like a junior high English class took over. And this episode is by far the worst. "Says the white man." And, "good, only people of color in the operating room and no white people talking down to me." This is not just bad application of political correctness. It's now just become hateful. Once a hallmark show. Great show. Now it goes in the bone pile. Insulting and prejudicial is not how to keep an viewership.

Racial profilling
Keester16 February 2021
Black doctor made a judgement call based upon race of patient and saved her life. Black patient then says that's racial profiling and wants to leave the hospital. What would she rather do, DIE. Race is an important factor in diagnosing illness as is gender and age.

Show is no longer about an autistic doctor.
graceross-9428118 February 2021
As the show goes on, it seems to focus less on Sean and more on politics/pc culture. Sean now seems like a supporting character, while the show focuses on pushing political ideology. Instead of focusing on the fact that Sean was attracted to a coworker, it became a subplot, to a subplot. What a waste. What could have been a great episode was instead wasted on reminding me on how evil I am, as a white woman.

Probabily the worst episode of the series and in general awful
sumtim3s00n21 March 2021
From start to the end it was borderline insultingly aggressively feminist, also apparently if a white doctor treats you or presents a diagnosis that is racism and it will be subjective and bad, white men are guilty of everything and on and on it went. This show used to be excellent, BALANCED(!),interesting. And now....ridiculous woke rubbish. And why the heck would you cast a person who calls herself X MAYO. I mean seriously....its asking for trouble. And its not the fact that she is morbidly obese or keeps creating division between people of different races and being aggressive and insulting to everyone around her ALL THE TIME. No, the writers make white doctors the problem. A plead to the creators, go back and rewatch the first 3 seasons and hire those writers or showrunner. And fire whatever woke kid you have running this travesty that the show has become.

This was great
ray-200218 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The comments on here are laughable with people hating on race, transgender issues, and PTSD, stereotypes, and unexpected/unplanned pregnancy. Like it or not, these are everyday issues that exist. When did it become political to treat people equally? Most of these comments basically say "Yeah yeah, they exist but don't tell us about it. How dare you tell us that others matter versus just exist?" The point of the show is that it covers rare issues that can occur in everyday life but people aren't talking about it enough. If you are uncomfortable, that means you're part of the problem instead of the solution. Also saying that it was too much too fast.... umm it's a 40-minute episode. What do you expect? Would those taking offense have been more comfortable if it was over the course of several episodes or would that have been "too much" or "too repetitive" for "too long"? People tend not to realize they are guilty of bigotry, racism, and intolerance until they're called out for it and offended. Firing back as a defense mechanism only further reiterates the point they are trying to make in this episode.

Great episode

Honest and very real episode. The two medical cases show us common situations that doctors and nurses treat in hospitals. If you criticize that, I'm sorry but you criticize the real world

zgotenz19 February 2021
I used to watch this show, had several characters.. one young doctor with autism, one young doctor very emotional, one young doctor very competitive, another doctor with more experience on life, some elder doctors very competitive and some kind good teachers.. but no anymore, since this episode I see one autism doctor, one black doctor, one caucasian blond doctor (almost out of the series), one latin doctor, one asian doctor..

No thnx, this had been my last episode and also my first review. Bye bye.

Reviews don't tell the true story
johntreacymad18 February 2021
All these reviews I've read on this really aren't accurate there people blasting a show for trying to address some real life issues.. I don't think the episode was that bad at all people are complaining about pushing ideals onto them but are just trying to push their own ideas on readers please watch this episode for what it is a TV show and enjoy

Systemic racism
This episode is about how systemic racism affects your behaviour and forms your thinking. Obviously, many people are offended by this topic and still do not understand, what systemic racism means, so they label this episode "woke" and downrate it. For me, this is one of the better episodes of a rather boring season (for now). It also shows how far Murphy got with respecting trans patients. However, it's also an episode where Murphy is once again sidelined, a pattern, which happens way to often since season three.

Favorite show no more.
RustyBoyz18 February 2021
This was one of my favorite shows. I thought it was fresh and new. I enjoyed seeing the world through Shaun's eyes (especially since I have friends and loved ones on the autism spectrum) and seeing his unique ways of solving problems. This whole season has gone out of its way to be too PC, and this episode was the straw. I won't try to cancel it or force it out, but I'm quietly stepping away and won't be watching any more. Really sad to say goodbye, but that's my choice.

Irresponsible Word Salad Practices
duckonthedam14 June 2021
So a good (not great) show feels it has to dictate and lecture it's audience on racism, prejudice and profiling? Don't you realise " patient profiling" is a necessary part of the diagnostic process? If not, why bother with research, funding for "at risk" groups, and even education? And Lim suggesting DrGlassman has not been prejudiced against because he is a white man is laughable. He was kicked out for supporting someone who was different. And why are we now left with the most annoying and unlikable ever characters as 1st year residents? Not one of them does anything to warrant any admiration from us. This season really sucks. Losing Melendez was the biggest mistake the producers ever made.

Woke Culture Strikes Again
DrMarazanvose22 February 2021
Watched a lot of TV over the years and slowly but surely these ENTERTAINMENT programs are becoming trojan horses to promote social and political awareness.

They are meant to be escapism not documentaries / sermons.

I do not deny that there are injustices in this world that need to be addressed - just not in my tv dramas please.

This episode was over the top in preachiness and should this show carry on in this vein then adios.

Agree with previous reviews
dennis-334-2951994 May 2021
This episode was more about politics, race, and transgender issues than a medical show about an autistic doctor. Such a shame. I hope this doesn't continue, because if it does, the show will suffer.

Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right
spikeluvr23 February 2021
More politically correct drivel that's predictable and boring. But also one incredibly offensive double standard. They spend the entire episode talking about racism and then the black patient snottily says to the white head of the hospital, "That's mighty white of you". So it's open season on whites now?

Haters gonna hate
jjervis-4001018 February 2021
Is this episode really a 10? Probably not, but that's the rating I'm giving it to counter all the haters that are giving it a one and two just because the real life subject matter of this episode makes them uncomfortable or goes against how they perceive the world should be

Why, oh why, does this keep happening?!?
TheEnglishChap22 February 2021
Another good show getting hung, drawn and quartered by the current fad relating to BLM. I like the way how the show focused (yes, I used the past tense!) on the autistic doctor and some of the emotional aspects of being a doctor. But now... I am flabbergasted as to which direction this show has taken. When the black doctor shows evidence to her superiors that black and other minorities are denied meds at a higher rate than others, I just about lost my mind and wanted to turn the telly off. So instead of doctoring (the profession not altering statistics) she is finding the time to compile all this "evidence". A sorry episode in a rubbish attempt to fall into the BLM-BS line. Take a hint ABC execs - do not go down this rabbit hole!

Art imitates "woke" life . . .
Bucky-817 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
All woke, all the time. It''s all there:
  • Dr. Claire Brown (who is black) offends a black patient in the ER (while saving her life!).
  • Dr. Brown is "cancelled" from the team treating said patient.
  • Dr. Brown abases herself with the requisite apology to the patient (for doing absolutely nothing wrong).
I won't even go into the confusing trans/gay/man/woman/having a baby subplot which wandered into the Science Fiction genre. Throw in the shots at "white males" and "white people" and you have the perfect storm of a series falling on its Politically Correct sword and losing its core audience.

Who writes this tripe?

Polarizing episode...
odeprived15 March 2021
Well, looking at the overall ratings, you either loved it or hated it. IMO, this ep was a complete fail on the writers' behalf -- they just went too far and simply failed with the script and direction. It was too obvious in its attempt to me-too cover current, hot inclusionary topics. It was just bad, super preachy, writing. You can tell from the reviews that this topic is delicate at best and has some seriously polarized viewpoints. People are either tired of the trope or just cannot get enough. Not much grey area. And the "helpful" tallies express that same battle. Easily skip this episode if you just want good medical drama.

The worst episode of the show.
paulig-gr16 February 2021
This episode was so cringy and hard to watch. Every moment, every dialog scene is a social justice lesson. One after the other. This episode has everything, from pronouns to racial profiling. In first two seasons this was a whacky fun, light show. Now it's cringe after cringe.
