Plimsoll Productions, which is a part of ITV Studios, has launched Plimsoll Digital — a new digital divsion that will be run by longtime Plimsoll exec Ged Mansfield. Mansfield, who will serve as creative director of development and digital, will report to Plimsoll USA head Alan Eyres.

According to Plimsoll, the new division “will develop digital formats and explore emerging technologies, looking at responsible uses for generative AI to empower creatives.”

Mansfield will utilize the company’s programming archive and library footage that includes natural history, adventure, documentary, and factual entertainment, and work with ITV Studios’ digital content label Zoo 55, which manages Plimsoll’s presence on YouTube and Fast channels.

The Walt Disney Company has revealed a first look at Disneynature’s new feature film, Sea Lions of the Galápagos, narrated by Brendan Fraser, and announced the details of its Earth Month ourHOME campaign.

Streaming on Disney+ beginning April 22, Sea Lions of the Galápagos explores the fascinating world of the Galápagos alongside a host of creatures from land and sea. In the film, the handsome sea lion pup Leo leaves his mother’s colony to find his own home following swimming lessons, fishing expeditions, and some growing up.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the winners for its third annual Children's & Family Emmy Awards. The event took place March 15 at Television City in Los Angeles and streamed live on TheEmmys.TV app.

Meryl Streep (Storyline Online) won the award for Best Children's Personality, after previously taking home three Primetime Emmys for Holocaust (1978), Angels in America (2004), and Five Came Back (2017). Hosted by voice actor Eric Bauza, the main ceremony and the creative arts ceremony celebrated achievements in children’s television, animation, and family programming.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians led with eight wins out of its 16 nominations, securing best young teen series and directing for a single-camera live-action series for the episode I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher, which tied with A Real Bug’s Life episode The Big City. The series, recently renewed for a third season ahead of its second-season debut, has drawn substantial viewership on Disney+.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Orion and the Dark and projects from the Sesame Street universe were among the big winners at the 2025 Children’s and Family Emmy Awards main and creative arts ceremonies on Saturday.

Percy Jackson, which scored an early season three renewal on Friday, months before season two premieres on Disney+, won eight of the 16 awards for which it was nominated. The series has recorded more viewing time than any original show on Disney+ outside of the Marvel and Star Wars franchises, as measured by Nielsen.

“Daredevil: Born Again” scored the biggest premiere audience Disney+ has seen this year.

After launching with the first two episodes on Tuesday, March 4, the “Daredevil: Born Again” premiere scored 7.5 million views globally in its first five days of streaming on Disney+, according to internal streaming figures from Disney. Disney defines a view as total stream time divided by runtime.

The Marvel Television show now ranks as the most-watched premiere on Disney+ in 2025 so far. Notable shows that have also premiered on the streamer in 2025 include “Goosebumps: The Vanishing,” “A Real Bug’s Life” Season 2, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” and “Win or Lose,” among others.

ITV Studios weighs into the 2025 London TV Screenings with its biggest slate in the last couple of years, certainly on the format side, and one of the weightiest lineups of any company presenting in London this week.

Its Feb. 26 showcase at the Odeon Leicester Square, open exclusively to buyers, will launch 12 brand new dramas, 26 returning seasons, 27 non-scripted titles and 10 new formats featuring must-check-out shows from many of the U.K.’s top production companies such as Sister Pictures, Quay Street Productions, Mammoth Screen, Lifted Entertainment (“Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway”) and Plimsoll Productions.

National Geographic is freshening up its programming slate.

The network has ordered four new series including The Real Finding Nemo and Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston.

It is the first slate of programming since it emerged that a large number of Nat Geo titles including Life Below Zero and Wild Tuna were coming to an end.

Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston is a historical exploration about the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and the preserved Roman city it left behind. Hiddleston, who studied Classics at Cambridge University, exec produces alongside his Loki executive producer Kevin R. Wright.

It comes from Plimsoll Productions, which is behind Nat Geo series including A Real Bug’s Life and The Devil’s Climb. Grant Mansfield, Alan Eyres, Helen Flint and Tom Barbor-Might exec produce for Plimsoll and Carolyn Payne exec produces for Nat Geo.

The Environmental Media Association has unveiled its list of nominated productions for this year’s awards gala, in addition to honoring “Abbott Elementary” creator and star Quinta Brunson for her environmental leadership.

Disney’s bets on its existing IP catalogue reveal to be a success. Variety and independent data insights company Luminate report that book and comic adaptations lead the numbers for Disney+ original series viewership, with data collected from December 29, 2023, to May 10, 2024.

The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians took the first spot, with 23.3% of original series viewing time on Disney+ spent following the story of a demigod trying to find his place in the world as a son of Poseidon. Loyal fans of the YA novel embraced the show’s faithfulness to the book after going through failed film adaptations in the early 2010s.

The BBC has unveiled a landmark natural history series on insects as its head of unscripted brands the notion that the streamers are taking over “utter bollocks.”

The Traitors commissioner Kate Phillips talked tough on the BBC’s place in the ecosystem at Creative Cities Convention, citing research that BBC iPlayer is watched by more people in the UK than Disney+, Prime Video and Netflix combined. “This idea that broadcasters are irrelevant and streamers are taking over is utter bollocks,” she said. “More than nine out of 10 adults access the BBC in the UK.”

That is the verdict of Grant Mansfield, the head of A Real Bug’s Life and Tiny World producer Plimsoll, who, along with ITV Studios boss Julian Bellamy, attempted to paint a glass-half-full portrait of the state of the UK production industry amid doom and gloom proclamations at the Creative Cities Convention.

Mansfield said he “understands the negative mood music” but posited that “the transformational thing [for UK producers] is international,” as he revealed that 90% of Plimsoll’s commissions come from outside the UK.

“The whole business of what your market is has become more porous and most British producers wil find themselves very welcome in America,” said Mansfield. “They are incredibly respectful and knowledgeable of the UK market.”

National Geographic has renewed both Limitless with Chris Hemsworth and A Real Bug’s Life for second seasons. Season one of Limitless premiered on Disney+ in November 2022 and A Real Bug’s Life, narrated by Awkwafina, debuted in January 2024.

“Working on Limitless was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to reflect on my strengths, vulnerabilities and all the ways in which we as humans can plan toward longevity,” said Hemsworth. “For this next season, we are attempting to raise the bar and go even deeper in this exploration alongside health and wellness experts from around the globe.”

Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel created the series and will return to executive produce the new season. Additional executive producers include Hemsworth, Tom Watt-Smith, Jane Root, Ben Grayson, Brandon Hill, Bengt Anderson, and Simon Raikes.

National Geographic just launched A Real Bug’s Life, a premium wildlife documentary based on the Pixar movie.

Courteney Monroe, president of National Geographic Global Television Networks, said that this is only the start in terms of it adapting Disney IP.

Monroe was asked whether she could see a real-life version of Ratatouille and said it was a “good idea”.

“There is such a rich IP to mine and there’s so much shared DNA between the Nat Geo and Disney brands that we are exploring lots of opportunities,” she said at the TCA press tour. “You can imagine maybe a real Finding Nemo and other franchises there, where there’s so many families with young children on the Disney+ platform that would gravitate to the real world storytelling around this franchise.”

Limitless with Chris Hemsworth premiered in 2022 and follows the Extraction star as he explores secrets of improving our lives.

In season one, Hemsworth pushed the limits of his body and mind to discover how fasting can unlock the body’s anti-aging power, how to manage stress so it doesn’t kill you, and how exposure to extreme temperatures can trigger our bodies’ own defenses against the killer diseases of old age, all in a quest to live a longer, healthier life.
