Beyond binaries & beyond compare...

This is the queer Asian movie of my dreams. Just saw it at SDAFF - an all femme cast playing different configurations of femininity and masculinity, the archetypes entwining in a dream-like, at once old-school and futuristic timeline of sweet drama populated by loveable characters. The alchemy of live action set in gorgeous, lush, almost otherworldly spaces with animated overlays and poetic splicing of Shakespearian lines is unexpectedly effective. The soundtrack and genderbending wardrobe are also incredible. Not to be missed.

A colourful queer fantasy loosely based on Shakespeare's play "As You Like It".
Not knowing the original, the family relationships and dynamics at times were hard to follow, but that didn't matter.
The film begins with a cover of the Temptation's song "My Girl" where the opening scenes immediately signal the *Love is Love* message. With all the roles played by women there is a lot to enjoy.
