Crime patrol - 2 episodes
ckvtvm11 February 2024
Well narrated 2 episodes of crime patrol.it is a new experiment on bringing OTT series on cinema theatres.it could have been better than web series. All actors played their role very well with little scope for performance. It was a pure directorial brilliance on how to illustrate a novel book on theatres .it is a clear procedural police investigation , but there has been many better movies directed by K G George . But this still remains a great attempt on this genre . It is definitely a beginning of a new chapter on Malayalam cinema to bring web series experience to theatres. As usual the movie is very realistic like any other Malayalam movie.

" Well - Executed Gripping Thriller "
Abhinav_Sumeet_Kombra11 February 2024
The film ' Anweshippin Kandethum ' directed by the debutant Darwin Kuriakose starring Tovino Thomas is an engaging and gripping investigation thriller film. The film doesn't have much commercial elements or any unnecessary sub plots , it's just straight investigation and keeps the story moving forward. I loved how they set up the first half story and then an even better second half story which was thrilling to say the least. The film had great performances from the cast and Tovino shined in this film. The background score by Santosh Narayanan was brillaint , perfectly creating that mystical vibe. I loved the second half more and the climax was really good. Also the cinematography was top aswell. The film is good and is entertaining till the end. Good watch.

Could have been an amazing movie, ended up being a decent 1-timer.
TreeFiddy539 March 2024
Tovino. Cop drama. Crime Thriller. Been waiting to watch this one for a while.

There a few ways to look at this film - people who don't usually watch crime drama might watch it and have their minds blown. People who who do watch a lot of crime drama are likely going to enjoy it, or be let down.

Before that, Tovino was great in the film. Music - surprisingly, Santosh Narayanan - nothing great to write home about, it was good. We've gotten better stuff from him. Cinematography - the film had me go "Wow, that's a good shot!" at several instances.

The writing - depending on what category you belong to from ^ you're likely going to (really) enjoy it or feel a little let down. Enjoy because you're likely going get a 'double treat' or feel let down, because you signed up for only one film but ended up getting two kinda disjointed films, with a long runtime.

I unfortunately fall into the latter category and think this could have much so much shorter and so much better, but it's a decent one-time watch nevertheless.

Well Crafted Thriller Drama
skmenon199311 February 2024
***Anweshippin Kandethum Malayalam Movie Review ****

Starring Tovino Thomas in the lead role directed by Darwin Kuriakose..

** A well crafted Thriller Movie ***

2 cases, but very interesting to watch as the movie very well takes us through the journey of the investigating officer & his team in unlocking the mystery behind the crimes.

Set in the period of 1980's mid to 1990 , the movie shows us how during that period there was no technology infrastructure to support to solve the case but with the available resources and with the sheer brilliance of how they were able to unlock the mystery.

Another positive factor, the movie doesn't glorify the heroism in a contemporary whereas it glorifies the efficient qualities, of a police officer making the movie worth watchable.

The cinematography, the production design, the score properly blends with the story.

Jinu V Abhraham screenplay deserves an applause..

Overall an interesting thriller experience worthy enough to watch in a big screen.

Well made but routine
Jithindurden25 February 2024
A nice investigation film where they decided to not follow a lot of narrative cliches and tropes seen in this type of Malayalam film but follow that of the English episodic investigation series' like CSI. But they also made sure that it is very rooted and realistic with the 90s production design on point without making the audience pay too much attention to that. Technically this is very well made in all the departments. The choice of making it two cases for the two halves was a brave one but it seemed to have also worked. But the way so many recent films have been using this same kind of theme for crime is getting irritating for me. That's where the Ozler movie kind of subverted expectations at a certain point and made me glad even if it didn't really do anything great. Here, a lot of choices about character motivations, their hurdles and the image they were creating for them was very much like how something like CSI would do but without actually copying anything from there. That in itself had its positives and negatives but that was also kind of irritating for me at certain points. But among recent police movies where a team of them investigates this was pretty good and better than something like Kannur Squad.

Not your average crime thriller.
abhineetmisra12 March 2024
The film is a good watch, it keeps you hooked throughout. Narayanan's music does justice with the film and keeps you on the edge. I loved Darwin's style and of course the actors played their part well. Kudos to the story writer for not being inspired by Bollywood and unnecessarily inserting romance in such brilliant film. The shift from the prime suspect to the actual culprit as an audience could've been anticipated in the second case but for the first one it was not on the list. So if you want to watch something different I think this might be perfect for a casual watch. I came with no expectations and loved it absolutely.

Strictly for those who relish their pulpy police procedurals! [+63%]
arungeorge139 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As a pure procedural drama, the film is pretty bang-for-the-buck. It follows an episodic structure, putting the "halving" style of Indian cinema to good use. This allows writer Jinu V Abraham to present not one, but two murder cases in a 2h 25m flick. Knowing that he wrote this in the early stages of the pandemic, the film even gave me the impression that it was originally envisioned as a procedural web series, along the lines of Kerala Crime Files. I still think that's a solid possibility in the future if they decide not to go the cinematic sequel route.

Director Darwin Kuriakose (in his debut effort) showcases sufficient control over a fairly big cast featuring both veterans and relatively new names. And since the film is set in the early 90s / late 80s Kottayam, the art and production design departments play a big role in perfecting the aesthetics of that era. Santhosh Narayanan's music also worked for me; it's not the kind that underlines every emotion that the protagonist goes through. However, as a procedural drama with occasional thriller elements, this was exactly the kind of score needed. The only song (sung by Dhee, ofRO) that sets the ball rolling at the start, is also great to hear in Dolby Atmos.

Tovino does a solid, believable job as the (protagonist) cop investigating the cases, with the support of a 3-member team, each of whom has more to do in the film's second half ..and yet, still feeling underwritten. None of these guys are your typical supercops, and the team is constantly shunned by superiors even when they put in commendable efforts. In terms of pace, I think the proceedings of the case in the first half are slightly faster, and it also benefits from having an intriguing communal angle (which is rooted in the region). While the second half case is more fleshed out overall, certain developments felt co-incidental and driven by luck, as opposed to the first where the protagonist's intuition and intelligence play a larger role.

Of course, zeroing in on the culprit without the help of CDRs, CCTVs, DNA Technology in Forensic Science, and other contemporary methods was always going to evoke memories of drama-thrillers from the early 90s, I think what also helped keep the material fresh was the rural Kottayam setting. The constant chirp of crickets, the vast expanses of rubber estates, the presence of unexplored ponds and creeks - it all reminded me of my childhood visits to my native place in Kottayam. Can I watch this team of cops investigate another case? Absolutely. Maybe the third time's the charm? Let's wait and see!

Even keel police investigations
cinish11 March 2024
The script does have substance to offer. There have been so many police investigation movies made that it is a challenge to bring in something new and convincing. This movie has been able to do that. I did not anticipate some of the twists in the plots.

An even keel pacing, not overly dramatic. An easy watch. I watched it at home. Was on the hook through the movie. I could have paused and attempted breakfast but I did not want to break the flow of the movie. And the movie had not been designed to sensationalize. The core is strong enough to keep you hooked.

Tovino has done good work. It is an interesting script selection.

There are two separate plots in the movie. And both plots have worked. Good writing and execution.

I would not classify it as a must watch. It is a pretty good watch though.

Engaging simple thriller
harineem-209-52548813 March 2024
This movie is not going to suprise you with major twists and turns like the Drishyam series but keeps you engaged the entire length of the movie. The stories are simple and well acted.

The main protagonist is a young cop investigating a girl's murder. He faces stiff resistance from locals when he tries to investigate a local monastery for the case. Things get more difficult when the senior officers in his own area sideline him from the case and want to close the case for political reasons. When an innocent man is forcibly framed, the dead girl's father appeals to him to find the real killer. So he starts the unofficial investigation and succeeds in finding the real killer(with support from a top police head). But tragic events out of his control lead to the suspension of his entire team.

The team is given a lifeline after some months by the police chief to investigate a 6-year old cold case. The whole village is in mutiny over a reinvestigation but the team still succeeds in identifying the killer.

The locations are very good. As for actors, Tovino Thomas has the maximum screen time with rest of the cast getting barely 20%. Since the film hints of a sequel, hope they give more scope to the other actors as well in the next movie.

Overall decent one-time watch.

Monotonous but very well crafted
sreeharivenat10 March 2024
A very finely made Neo-noir Mystery/Thriller movie. It is definitely the cup of tea for investigation thriller geeks. But I wouldn't recommend this to action movie fans because it's can a little slow paced at certain points. But as a passionate enthusiast of Mystery/Thriller/Crime films, I did not feel any sort of boredom.

Tovino really impressed as Sub Inspector Anand Narayanan. The purpose of presenting a young and straightforward police officer as protagonist was executed flawlessly. But the plot seemed a little random. For instance, during investigation, Tovino and his crew keeps grinding and finds evidence leading to the culprit but, it fails to flabbergast the audience inspite of the twist in the end(Joju George's Iratta would tell a different story). But it definitely kept me on the hook. A crime thriller enthusiast who likes to pay attention to details would never say this movie is boring.

If you want to see a well made and nuanced investigation thriller, this is a great choice. I would have gave it 10/10 if it gave me that adrenaline rush which Neru or Kannur Squad did. But due to the way this movie is made, it definitely deserves 8+.

Questionable choices
ronaldpmathews10 March 2024
The movie has some really questionable choices when it comes to how the story is written and it feels like "an average combo meal with no particularly tasty dish" due to the fact that this movie focuses on two entirely different stories in the first and second half. The buildup for the first crime and the investigation felt more relevent and engaging than the one in climax. Dont get me wrong, it is a good one time watch when most of the films these days are cringe and waste of time.

The cinematography and editing is pretty good and the cast is perfect for the story with a lot of familar faces even for small roles.

Average
pallathzway12 February 2024
An average experience trying to capitalize on the current trend of investigative thrillers. Was a decent start to begin with. As it progressed, turned out to a very ordinary affair. 2nd half was too boring and mundane. First half slightly better. Both the story lines appeared to be a bit cliche, usual stuff seen in many movies . Not much effort has gone into the script. Tovino was the saving grace delivering a decent performance. Support cast of all the police officers appeared repetitive some of them very poorly developed characters. Most other roles too appeared lazy. Scrip could have been much better with a better casting.

Good suspense thriller
Chandru2206J11 March 2024
I highly recommend watching this movie as it surpassed my expectations. It consists of two episodes of murder mysteries, with the first story being decent, but the second one was truly intriguing. Every scene was engaging, and none of them felt unnecessary. The music was used only in the necessary parts of the film.

The twists and turns were executed brilliantly, but the only drawback in the first story was that the killer was introduced only when the hero finalized the suspect. It would have been better if the killer were introduced earlier, resulting in a massive revelation.

The actors did an excellent job, especially Tovino Thomas, who portrayed a subtle character, which is quite different from his usual cheerful and fun roles in his previous films I watched. Overall, I can assure you that this movie will not disappoint, and you should definitely give it a watch.

I Loved this film very much
paulsonmta12 February 2024
Wow...What an awesome movie. TWIST TWIST TWIST... EVERYWHERE TWIST.... The first half of the movie is good compared to the second part. The plot is a police officer's investigation about a murder case and the story goes on ends up in the suspension of Anand.

Second Part is the rejoining and another investigation of an old murder case where he is able to find the culprit and there comes many suspense elements..

Direction, Background score and art is nice. Most of the parts shot in Kottayam districts itself and the camera man was nice.

Overall it's nice movie to watch and you will like this..

Stays true to its genre...!!!
PANDIAN1206218 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A good proceedural police Investigation story with no commerial cliches...Offering a decent amount of suspense and a few heart-pounding moments, but ultimately fails to deliver anything truly memorable or unique coz of its periodical backdrop where one couldn't expect any technical brilliancy...

This movie is certainly engaging enough to keep you entertained throughout the film,Somehow unpredictable twists in the later half...Jinu abraham's writing is compelling & straight to the core plot making it an advisable note of not to take breaks to hold the element of surprises...

Gautam shankar vision is the soul of the movie that elevates the flick with its dark tone & aerial drone shots at the required amount while Saiju sreedharan's crispy editing does help in building the element of suspense...Santosh narayan does a pretty decent job with his bgm...

Jinu Abraham creates new characters whenever he needs a twist. Also, some of the characterizations are so typical that when they are finally revealed as the culprits, you don't really sense any excitement around that revelation which leads to Tovino Thomas & rest of the team lacks emotional connection...

Overall a pretty decent crime thriller that stays true to its content...Give it a try you wont be disappointed...

Finely Crafted Slow-burn thriller
vijayvenkat-7261314 March 2024
Anweshippin Kandethum delivers a captivating investigative thriller that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats throughout. With two intricately woven investigations at its core, the film boasts a well-scripted narrative that unfolds gradually, drawing audiences deeper into its web of mysteries. While it may be considered a slow burn thriller, the movie compensates with its gripping storyline and compelling characters. One notable aspect is the film's understated musical score, which may not be particularly catchy but effectively complements the visuals and themes, enhancing the overall atmosphere of suspense and intrigue. The director's decision to keep the storytelling simple and clean proves to be a wise choice, avoiding unnecessary distractions and allowing the focus to remain squarely on the unfolding mysteries. The actors everyone did a splendid job.

Overall, "Anweshippin Kandethum" stands out as a finely crafted thriller that excels in its execution, offering a satisfying viewing experience for fans of the genre.

Anweshippin Kandethum: A Cinematic Journey with Tovino Thomas Shining Bright Amidst Mixed Reviews Warning: Spoilers
As a cinephile, I was eagerly anticipating Anweshippin Kandethum, intrigued by its promise to delve into two major crimes that shook Kerala. Directed by Darwin Kuriakose and penned by Jinu Abraham, the film boasts a stellar cast featuring Tovino Thomas, Siddique, and Arthana Binu.

The movie unfolds as a dual narrative, exploring the intricacies of the crimes and the subsequent investigation by the Special Operations Police (SOP). While the concept seemed promising, I found the overall execution to be overhyped, leaving me somewhat underwhelmed.

The first story, though gripping, fails to present a groundbreaking plot. The inability to apprehend the killer with concrete evidence adds an air of frustration. However, Tovino Thomas's performance shines through, showcasing his acting prowess and elevating the film. The supporting actors also contribute commendably to the narrative.

On the flip side, the second story introduces a unique twist where the protagonist takes matters into his own hands, delivering a form of self-punishment. This narrative choice adds an interesting layer to the movie, but the overall impact falls short of creating a truly memorable cinematic experience.

One aspect that undeniably stands out is the excellent cinematography, capturing the essence of the narrative with striking visuals and attention to detail. The film's aesthetic appeal is a commendable aspect that adds to its overall cinematic quality.

In conclusion, Anweshippin Kandethum may not live up to the heightened expectations, but Tovino Thomas's stellar performance and the commendable supporting cast, coupled with impressive cinematography, salvage the viewing experience. While it may not be a cinematic masterpiece, the film is still worth a watch, earning a modest rating of 6 out of 10 in my book.

A movie worth to watch
ravikumardev29 March 2024
Very, very, very nice movie. This is what we call good writing. Simplicity in acting, no mass-entertaining drama. Acting to the point, writing to the point. I hope Bollywood understands this, and more importantly, the audience in the Indian north region understands that these types of movies are much better than larger-than-life movies. Honestly, I feel education is important; Kerala has more than 90% educated people, so those people like this type of movies. Unfortunately, we don't have that in entire India, so movie makers are also helpless to make movies larger than life to earn a profit.

Few things to mention, great writing, simplicity, nice cinematography, no larger than life useless showcasing, nice acting, no useless songs.

Despite resolving two different murder cases in its run time, Anweshippin Kandethum falls short of being a one-timer. Read more to know why!
Vetrrich_Chelvan3 April 2024
Anand Narayanan, a righteous police officer, determined to resolve the Blessy murder case, locks horns with various parties, only for things to become awry at the last minute, and he gets suspended. As redemption, Anand is assigned to the unsolved murder case of Sri Devi, under the promise that he can resume his duties, if he finds the killer.

Anweshippin Kandethum is Anand-centered, but Anand is not an intriguing character, yet thanks to the gripping screenplay, you don't get bored. Although engaging from beginning to end, Andweshippin Kandethum doesn't shy away from familiar tropes and, similar themes that form the conventions of the crime genre. The 2.5-hour duration of "Anweshippin Kandethum" didn't fully showcase the screenplay's potential and might have benefited from trimming down.

If you are a fan of thrillers, you might or might not like it. If you are a bored audience, the film will entertain you. However, it is a one-time watch.

Warning: Spoilers
The movie "Anweshippin Kandethum" is good combination of thriller and mystery the story goes through the investigation of two murders, the hero Anand Narayan solved the the two cases but he couldn't give the culprits the punishment of the law by court. They both taken their lifes before Anand could take them to court. Anand had solved the case that all the others before him weren't able to do. He came to knew that probably, he wouldn't get any credit, but he was happy with the fact that the truth came out in the open. Anand knew that what he had done was right, and even if the world perceived him wrongly, great acting done by Tovino Thomas and the movie also ends with the quote "still they are waiting to finish a case by giving the accused person the punishment"

One-time watch
appusnikhil15 March 2024
This movie had a solid start and the way the creators decided to take this film deserves applause. I don't understand why this film didn't get much good repsonse from the public. I don't understand why this film didn't receive much positive feedback from the public.

The actors were fine but the director didn't put that emphasis on the supporting actors and the lead character is the one who leads the investigation. This is easily noticeable in the movie. The director could have atleast made the screenplay more solid by giving equal importance to the supporting actors.

The production design is the highlight of this movie. What an effort in recreating the 80s and 90s. Kudos to the creators.

Meh..Just average
agasi99910 March 2024
I don't get the high rating this movie. It's a just a very average fare that could have been a tv show. The cinematography is nice and the acting is great but the story is the same old "cop trying to solve a mystery" which when eventually revealed make you go "oh okay.. is that all this whole 2.5 hours was about?". Honestly starting to get bored of these police based Malayalam movies, you get a sense of dejavu with these movies. I think with Netflix a lot of producers have realised such movies could be made with a small budget and sold to OTT for a neat profit. Nobody gets harmed, except us viewers, who waste 2-3 hours of our life watching this movie seeing all the positive reviews.

Intense and very good acting
dneelamjyoti30 April 2024
I am from Assam and watched the Hindi dubbed version. Very good movie... Once it may be remake in Hindi.. like Drishyam.. Story, acting are superb and very realistic.

Really liked it.

The lead actor is very very Good so as the other supporting actors. No extra drama like Hindi movies. No adult sex scenes. No song and dance. Really realistic feeling. I have become fan of the movie. At the end, I watched the writer and director's name and opened this IMDb account for the first time to praise the movie. However, movie should be watched seriously to feel the movie.

Awesome movie, great actors, nice scenario. Overall superb.

Very well written and directed!
bpraveena200224 March 2024
Every dialog was thoughtfully written and delivered. After a long time watching a movie which has a gripping story and script. It was so gripping that I don't remember if there were any songs in the movie! Also no comedy track. Pretty serious investigation.

It is like packing 2 great stories into 1 movie.. enjoyed both the investigations.

The same kerala's scenic backdrop which is generally soothing was causing anxiety as this is a thriller movie.

Tovino thomas acting and body language as a police officer is excellent.

Good one time watch.. only because the suspense is revealed at the end.
