- The team going for the killer of a fallen friend, and the trail leads to Zegreb, Croatia where they must find who was really responsible for their friend's death - and the identity of the terrorist he was hunting. Riley and Mac both deal with the loss of their friend in their own ways.—Gislef
- Mac is in the veterans party that ceremonially returned Jack Dalton to the US for a military funeral. Jacks was killed in Zagreb, Croatia, pursuing international terrorist Tiberius Kovac, who allegedly has blown up himself and Jack rather than be captured. The team has little time to mourn, as Mac receives a coded postcard that Jack ordered to be sent upon his death. The card is from Jack's alias "Ozzy Ulrich" and references the "wilderness of mirrors," which Russ recognizes as code for deception. The team heads to Zagreb, where they are double-crossed by local contact Anya Vitez, whom Russ knows from the British Consulate in Croatia. They soon learn that Tiberius Kovac never existed and was instead created by Anya to cover her criminal enterprises, now she tries to eliminate them.—KGF Vissers
- An American soldier's coffin returns to the U.S. via plane. Mac and Desi are there in uniform, and Wilt, Riley, and Matty are among the civilian viewers. The officer in command, Lt. Ray Walker, gives Jack's dog tags to Mac, and says that serving with Jack was an honor. Mc says that it was an honor for all of them.
Later at Mac's house, Mac holds a wake for Jack. Wilt talks to Riley about how the wake turned into a party, and it's appropriate that it's Jack. He asks if Desi is okay, and she says that doesn't know if it's sunk in yet. Desi agrees, but isn't so such that Mac will take it well.
Desi takes some beer to Russ and Matty, and they talk about Jack. Matty says that no one knows better than her how Jack's presence could linger. Meanwhile, Mac talks to Walker
Mac talks to Walker about Jack, and Walker tells Mac that Jack wouldn't be alive if Mac had been there. Mac asks what happened, and Walker says that when they were hunting Tibius Kovac, they trapped him outside of Zagreb and took hostages. Jack entered the building and feed the hostages, and Kovac blew himself up and Jack along with him. Mac says that a week before the raid, Jack called him on a burner phone but they never connected. Walker has no idea why Jack called, and leaves.
Mac sees Riley by herself, crying, and she goes outside.
Riley goes to an arcade and plays skeeball. Mac joins her and plays, they talk about the last time they were there. She talks about how Jack brought her there, and they both agree that Jack was no math wiz. They have some pizza and they talk about Jack and his GTO, and how Riley met Jack and how she blackmailed him into taking her to the arcade.
When Mac gets home, he finds a postcard from Zagreb from Jack. The name "Ozzy Ulrich " is on it, and Mac takes it to Phoenix and shows the postcard to Matty. The name is one of Jack's old alias, and the postmark is from two days after he was killed.
Later, the team assembles in the war room and look at the postcard. There's a reference from T.S. Eliot's poem, and confirms that it's Jack's handwriting. They don't know who mailed the postcard, and they figured that Jack thought he was betrayed. Riley has done digging on the Ulrich alias, and discovered that they lead to an address in Zagreb. Mac figures that Jack created a failsafe that he wanted them to find it.
Mac, Desi, Riley, Russ, and Wilt fly flies to Zagreb, and Desi asks Mac how he's holding up. He says that he's focused on the mission, and Desi says that Jack plucked her out of ranger school for a special op. Even though Desi was a green, he showed her the same respect as every other soldier. Mac figures they all could have been there. Russ joins them and says the address belonged to Jack, and he rented it three months ago under the Ulrich and paid a year's rent in advance. Jack had the landlord mail the postcard if he didn't check in, and the key is waiting for them.
In Zagreb, the team enters the apartment and search the place for any clue Jack might have left. There's an Eye of Horus, and since Jack hated Cairo city after a mission, they figure it's a clue. Mac explains that the two of them were trapped in a sarcophagus for six hours behind a false wall, and search for and find a hidden wall. Mac breaks a hole in the wall with a hot plate and finds a safe. He uses a tank of Freon to crack the tumbles, open the safe, and finds a photo of a man. Riley runs it on the computer and identifies it as Tibor Babic, a local smuggler with no connection to Jack or Kovac.
Matilda gets the info and runs it through intelligence. A woman and three men break in, and Mac identifies them as Interpol. The female agent in charge, agent Anya Vitez, says that the head of the local anti-terror unit. She learned Russ was on her turf, and notices the photo of Babic.
At the local Interpol, the team meets with Anya and tells her what they found. She figures they don't trust her, and says that she got to know Jack well in the last year. They called him a protector, and Riley says that they were once his family. Anya says that she knows with Babic and insists on coming with them because she owes Jack.
Anya takes the team to a restaurant supply warehouse that Babic uses as a front for his smuggling operation. They search the place and spot Babic as he runs. They go after him through the shelves, and Riley catches up to him and knocks him out. Once they tie him up, Babic claims that he doesn't know Jack. Russ drops one bottle of smuggled wine, and starts breaking other stuff.
When Babic insists that he doesn't know Jack, Anya offers to take Babic in for enhanced interrogation. Mac describes how he can build a lie detector from a watch, and Babic figures that he's Mac from Jack's description. Babic says that he and Jack were BFF, and says that Jack came to him because he did business with Kovac. Babic and Kovac never did business face-to-face, and they planted a bug in some radio equipment that Babic sold to Kovac. Jack offered to clear Babic's record if he helped him take down Kovac, and Babic agreed. Babic figures that Kovac may kill himself, and knows Kovac is alive because he reached out to him for a fake ID.
The team check in with Matty, and Mac says that they need to finish Jack's mission. Desi wonders why Jack didn't tell his unit, and they figure that he thought someone had a leak. They don't trust Babic, but figure they should have Babic meet with Kovac for payback, even though Kovac will probably try and kill Babic.
The next day, Babic sets up a rendezvous in a warehouse and the team set up. A car with tinted windows arrive, and they don't know who is inside. Mac moves in to get a closer look, and doesn't see a driver. He yells to everyone to get down just as the car explodes. Two SUVs burst in, and men emerge and open fire. Desi, Anya, and Russ return fire, and Mac turns on an engine and pours nails in it. He uses a tube to open fire on the men, taking one of them down while the others drive off.
The team ties up the wounded man and take him and Babic to a safe house Anya provides. Meanwhile, Babic asks how he's going to get home, and they tell him he isn't going with them. Mac tells him that if he helps them find Kovac, he has nothing to worry about. Babic says that Jack told him to tell Mac, and they agree to get him to America once he gives them the information. The smuggler says that Mac should remember his "manniversery" when Jack took him to a hotel in Las Vegas with a giant aquarium.
Mac has Riley run a digital check on Kovac but gets nothing. Mac explains that Kovac is a digital "mirage", and his face is a digital creation. Riley wonders how they catch Jack's killer if he doesn't exist. They lock Babic in a closet and Mac figures out Jack was close to realizing who "Kovac" really was. Desi slips awake their prisoner, and a sniper fires and kills him before he could speak.
Jack works out the bullet's trajectory to determine where the sniper is. Mac goes there, and Anya calls it in to her team. Riley searches the prisoner's body, and Wilt helps her. She takes his fingerprints and takes photos of them, and sends them to the local databases to get an ID.
A janitor emerges from the building with her cart, and they find the sniper's rifle there. They spot the sniper running, and Mac, Russ, and Desi go after him. Desi splits up from the two men to check an alley on their way past, and the sniper attacks her from ambush. He comes after her with a knife, and Desi disarms him and knocks him out, as Russ and Mac return.
Mac searches the sniper and discovers he has no walled or ID. Desi identifies the knife as a favorite of Croatan special forces, and Russ figures the man would be on the special ops file. He sends a photo of the sniper's retina to determine if he is in the special ops database. Riley has identifies the dead prisoner as an informer to Interpol's anti-terrorist unit, and the sniper is active military assigned to the same unit. They realize that it's all tied into Anya... just as she arrives at the safe house with a thug, and they hold Riley and Wilt at gunpoint.
Mac and the others hear Anya over the earbuds, and tells Riley and Wilt to play for time. The agents refuse to go with Anya, and she shoots Wilt in the leg and warns that she won't be merciful if they still resist her.
Anya and her thug get the two agents to her SUV and rive off, and Riley binds Wilt's wound. Anya tells them that she doesn't intend to run.
While the trio get to the safe house, Matty calls them and says that the agents are off the comm. Riley's earbud activates, and Matty sends the trio the coordinates.
Anya has turned on the comm and taken the two agents to a building under construction. She tells Riley to turn on her laptop, and Riley figures that she isn't bluffing about shooting Wilt again if Riley doesn't cooperate. Riley gives in, and Anya says that she's a useful tool to people in power. It's only their word that she's Kovac, and uses Riley's laptop to set up a money trail from Kovac to Jack. The agents will die, and the "evidence" will show that they died tried to covering up Jack's crime.
Anya tells Jack that before he died, he said that when he got home he was going to have pizza with Riley.
The trio arrive at the building, and Matty scans the building by satellite and confirms that Riley and Wilt are being used as hostages. Mac gets some equipment from a nearby cargo container, and the trio take elevator up. Only Mac arrives, without the equipment, and he walks out and holds up his arms. He tells Anya that he's there to negotiate the release of his friends, and Riley tells Mac to finish Jack's mission. Anya says that it's over, and Mac says that Jack was the one who liked to run his mouth.
Riley realizes that she's on a rolling chair. Meanwhile, Russ shoves a wheeled scaffold with the batteries they rigged on it, and the batteries shock the thugs. Mac uses a gun as a grenade, and Desi kicks her way out of an air vent and attacks the thugs as they go for their guns.
Mac disarms Anya with a whip made out of wire, and they free Riley and Wilt. Riley reveals that the "passcode" she gave to Anya recorded everything she said and did earlier, and promises that Anya will rot in a cell.
The team flies back to the States, and Russ hands out drinks and offers a toast to Jack. Everyone joins in, and Russ objects when they start to pour the liquor out as a toast. They talk about how Wilt should get Bruce Willis to play a character named after Jack.
Riley looks pensive, and Mac joins her. She says that she still doesn't feel better about avenging Jack, and Mac tells her to give it some time. Riley tells him that nothing is ever going to fill the spot where Jack was in her heart. Mac tells her that Jack left him all of his Metallica t-shirts and his DVD collection. He suggest that they have a 'Die Hard' marathon the next day, and Riley agrees.
The others doze off, and Mac goes to the bathroom, breaks into tears, and pounds his fists in frustration. He sits down on the floor, still crying,
The next day in LA, Mac picks Riley up in Jack's GTO. He says that Riley is driving, and they go for a spin. Riley admits that Jack never let drive the car, and Mac tells her that Jack left it to her. She puts in a Johnny cash eight-track and drive off.
