Beautifully Crafted

Cowhouse Film's (@cowhousefilms) beautifully crafted double-hander which exposes us to the crisis point in a young man's life.

Freddie (Alexander Vlahos @vlavla) is facing potentially the hardest struggle of his life but Lily (Sophie Hopkins @ShoppieHopkins) isn't going to give up on him.

Freddie and Lily have seen happier times. He is in a really dark place and knows he can't get through this alone. Lily is strong and supportive; she clearly still loves him.

As viewers we are brought into their lives with a jolt. The film doesn't hold back in showing a man who has hit rock bottom and some scenes are a difficult watch emotionally. This is beautifully juxtaposed with tenderness, intimacy and hope. So much is said without words.

Alexander Vlahos has a talent for conveying pure raw emotion which tears at you. Sophie Hopkins is the calm to his storm, mirroring the characters.

The film has a chronological narrative using dual images, clever use of focus, lighting and wardrobe to reinforce the characters essence.

Most of the scenes are very light on dialogue but the exquisite acting and purpose written soundtrack (by Yellowbelly (@yellowbelly band) conveys the story perfectly.

This short film explores quite an emotional subject but the message of love and hope ushers us through the more difficult scenes.

Incredible

A wonderful film from a spectacular team.

Everyone involved ensured that the film was stunning from start to finish. Tackling complex issues with sincerity and integrity, coupled with great editing and a terrific soundtrack, this is a film you don't want to miss.

Alexander Vlahos excels as writer, director, producer and actor - bringing the character of Freddie to life with an authenticity that immediately draws the attention of the audience.

Sophie Hopkins shone as Lily. Her completely believable performance brought the character to life in a way that drew empathy from the viewers.

Thank you to everyone involved, including the wonderful CowHouse Films, for such a thought-provoking, powerful film.

Sublime Film

Freddie is falling apart and struggling to get his life on track. Lily provides gentle, almost unspoken, but strong support. She is the WatchTower of the title, providing a beacon of light and hope, but also overseeing all and safe-proofing the house. She nudges him into making the right decision for his life.

The enhanced sounds are synonymous with depression. The inability to escape the noise of life to find a peaceful space in your head.

The emotion portrayed by these two fantastic actors is palpable from the very start. It's raw, and disturbing but there is an overarching feeling of love, support and hope.

It is beautifully filmed and the colour tones enhance the mood. The soundtrack fits perfectly thanks to the very talented yellowbelly @yellowbellyband The film is pure magic.
