Jean De La Fontaine
A timid rabbit is cowering before the King of Beasts, the Lion, and his court of carnivores (and one sheep), when a gnat appears to challenge His Majesty.
Starewicz often told tales for children with his stop-motion animation. Here he tackles Jean De La Fontaine, the 17th Century member of France's Royal Academy whose best remembered works is his FABLES, a collection of fairy tales that made them respectable form of literature for a century. This one is in the style of Aesop, with two morals, and Starewicz's usual elaborate and not-particularly-beautiful puppet design. It is, as always, very funny.
