Toss-up of an episode
Mesina0221 February 2023
This was such an odd episode. It definitely goes in a different direction compared to the episodes of the first season. I don't even think that this was a good episode to start with. This felt more like an episode that should have been placed in the middle of the season.

The reason why the first episode of the first season worked really well was because it gave you time first with the characters and then it was able to sink you into the plot.

With this it's kind of unconventional with how things play out. It goes from one part on to the other part and to the next one after that. It's kind of like it was rushing to establish these things before heading to the next episode.

Also, that first part (the spades game) was really unbelievable. With the way the characters had massive plot armour to the fact that the spades guy was just everywhere. That took me out of it.

The episode was certainly a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't say it impressed me.

All spectacle in this season opener

Warning: Spoilers
Personally I found this opening episode a slight letdown. It follows on directly from the events of the season one climax, with four characters now roaming the streets of Tokyo and looking for the next game. It springs upon them out of nowhere, and a battle for survival ensues. You get the feeling in the first half that this is all about spectacle and little else; there are gory shootings and a big car chase, but no depth. It feels like they're throwing yen at the screen but little of it sticks. Then there's some mildly interminable dialogue, and it's only at the very ending that we get the promise of a proper game. Here's hoping!

It's BACK!

The plot of the 1st episode was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. The storyline was very well written and gladly, there are many flashbacks of season 1. The characters are exactly the same, they are all very interesting, well-developed and kinda likeable. So far, season 2 was very intense and I really liked the car chase scene. Sadly, we didn't had the chance to watch the first game of season 2.. The ending scene was really promising and I really can't wait to watch the first game..! Also, I noticed that the budget of season 2 is way higher that season 1, which means it's gonna be a really EPIC season.

Absolutely Incredible Premiere
asheohara22 December 2022
One of the most electrifying episodes of television I've had the pleasure of viewing. I have high hopes for this season as I felt that season 1 was some incredibly adapted from book.

This episode fires on all cylinders. Setting us straight up with the new games, a sensational car chase, and ample ultra-violence to quench our sadistic thirsts.

It's a must watch for any science-fiction/horror fanatic, it's pays homage to such works as Battle Royale, Hunger Games, and with the many references to Alice in Wonderland.

Very excited to view the rest of the season, I am in love with where this show is going, and I'm saddened to know that this will probably be the finale season 😞.

What makes animes bad
ASBKnight2 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
While the first season had a good pace , interesting plot and development, in season 2 they throw it out the window.

Lack of logic is acceptable if it's explained later or can be deduce by the audience. The first episode has neither.

It's like a child tries to invent a story. It will probably make no sense , but it can be cute.

You have first someone that shoots a anti tank rifle (form what the ever ecliptic annoying white dude is telling us) then they proceed to hide behind cars.

Instead of running in a building you get an overly dramatic run in the center intersection.

Then the mystery guy appears and while he is on foot , for some reason manages to catch a moving car from behind and climb on it.

Then you get this dumb topic about gamers and interviews (as a gamer myself this must be a Japanese thing as all of the scenes his life make no sense).

The cringe jokes, violent acts to draw from the lack of depth and the cliche one liners make this one of the biggest disappointment for a season 2 I've seen recently.

Couldn't even finish the episode and my brain hurts.

Alice in Borderland.
bombersflyup25 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's been a while, I don't remember some of the characters here, the lesser ones, but it's a solid season opener, if only really a setup episode.

It turned into that other silly stop/go show a bit with all the shooting early, it's not like the main characters are in any danger here of dying at all. The King of Spades killing the other group from atop the car was pretty cool. The characterizational flashbacks are nice, to show that he's not just fighting for himself, but for those who made a sacrifice for him to be here. He's a protagonist to be rooting for.

Away we go, afoot into the second season.

Not a great start

Warning: Spoilers
After watching the first two episodes of this season i was left disappointed and thought,oh yeah...this show has "jumped the shark!" The car scenes from Ep 1 was ok , but not nothing special. The dude with the semi automatic (or sub machine gun) was a little bit unbelievable as he appeared to be everywhere. Mostly i was getting frustrated and cringing at the really cheesy dialogue which continued (and got worse!) in episode 2. In addition the game at the container or dock yards was not that exciting and left me a little bored. I was thinking so, "maybe this was like this in the last session too?" Maybe I'm just being nostalgic? So i went back and watched one of my favourite episodes from season 1 (ep.2 ) were the game takes place at a huge residential apartment block. I really enjoyed this episode, the game was exciting and suspenseful and you feel the anxiety and claustrophobia of the contestants trying to escape two psychos "Taggers" with sub machine guns. And.....i was right the the dialogue was much less cheesy. Anyway, the show does improve in the following episodes 3 and 4. So, persevere. 😁
