Not bad, sort of feels like a Hallmark movie
VampyreMike1 May 2022
I picked this up recently at the dollar store, I thought my wife would like it as it looked like a Hallmark film.

It sort of does, but also misses the mark a little. The main plot of the story is a bakery owner entering a contest for a money prize for making the best pumpkin dessert in Morton, Illinois. Which after watching this and looking it up, is considered the pumpkin capital.

Throw in some friends who fall in love and religious overtones and you have this movie. Decent, cute, but not something my wife would watch again.

Don't bother.

Warning: Spoilers
Not once in my entire life have I ever written a review for a movie, but this movie was so astronomically terrible that I felt it was morally the right thing to do. This is an insane statement, considering I love to watch Hallmark/Great Romance movies in my free time as a way to get a quick laugh.

However, between the weird camera shots, confusing script, and the downright poor editing, I'm not even sure what I just watched. It's hard to tell if the movie I took genuine time to sit down and watch was a heartfelt project made by the company Hallmark Media that just happened to be executed terribly or was just a first-year university project made by a mentally struggling student who spent the majority of the year snorting crack and eating magic mushrooms.

The movie continuously tries to push the narrative that the protagonist's niece is this spoiled, ungrateful child that demands and expects everything. So much so that the child's own mother even calls her "ungrateful and spoiled." However, not once did we actually see this behavior in her. In fact, she seemed nice-nice enough to offer her aunt a solution when she was overwhelmed with orders for her subpar pumpkin pie and definitely nice enough to cover for her aunt when she got stuck in a cell and couldn't compete in the competition. The lack of consistency within the movie made me think it was solely written by AI, and the actors were just told to roll with it.

And speaking of 'roll with it,' I'm guessing at some point their camera died or they lost access to it, considering midway through this, they just added in some footage of some random fair that was clearly recorded on someone's phone.

Bottom line, unless I'm in need of a good laugh or want to show my family members or friends something absolutely terrible, I will never watch this movie again. So again, don't even bother.

Strange camera angles, overlong pauses and rubbish editing

I thought I had seen some bad films, but this takes the biscuit (no pun intended).

The 'hero' is a self-obsessed narcissist with no redeeming features whatsoever.

The 'heroine' uses tinned (??!!??) pumpkin to make her 'classic, fresh pies', and yet is so much admired by the town (why??) for her culinary skills.

Add to this a painfully slow delivery and bizarre shots such as a customer leaving the shop and then a lingering view on a random crossroads, with the customer already out of shot as she went in a different direction!

Plus the kind of evening dresses that are sold online very cheaply and one's truly odd experience is complete!

Please - give this one a miss.

Poor acting and pitiful story

The only redeeming thing in this entire movie is that "faith" is upheld in the end.

The acting is horrific, the storyline is awful, and the entire movie moves at a snail's pace which makes it even more agonizing to watch! If this truly is a Hallmark production, they missed the mark BIGTIME.

It felt like the characters were extras that they pulled in off of the street...I doubt they had any formal training. The awkward pauses in dialog were painful to watch.

The premise for the story is laid out in the first few minutes of the movie, but it gets lost in a ridiculous sub-plot.

Do yourself a favor and watch something else!

Don't waste your time

Bought it at the Dollar Tree - it wasn't even worth that much. The script is horrible and the acting is wooden. Sometimes these kind of movies can be tolerable with decent acting, but other than the starring actress, everyone was pretty bad. This isn't even CLOSE to Hallmark movie standards.
