The entire film was shot on location at a real high school, Sir Francis Drake High, with the blessings of the administration, many of whom are featured in the project.
Zombie High School is a hybrid of stage and screen, a multimedia horror film. The first portion of the film ends as the characters barricade themselves into the school theater. And this is where it gets crazy; the actual theater of the school where it was being shown is transformed from movie theater into zombie-surrounded hell as the actors seamlessly transition from screen to stage during the final sequences of the hybrid project's play.
The principal in the film is the actual principal of the high school in the film.
Produced entirely without a budget, every extra in the film is a volunteer, despite the lengthy make-up required for becoming a zombie. There are over 40 extras.
The film was shot on two different cameras during production, with the "in-camera" documentary portions made to look hyper-realistic, it wasn't letter-boxed or color graded. The "cinematic" portions were more heavily styled and shot on a separate camera system.
