Seagal's new movie fails to impress
aliyizaki25 January 2010
-Ufortunately even though its a relatively good film,it failed to impress after the highs of DTK and TK.The film does start strongly, and in the positives i have to count Steven's performance as it shows a character and not Seagal himself..He is angry, disappointed, sad and violent and he doesn't hide it..The action was pretty good, some explosions and a lot of shootouts, but the latter were almost unwatchable, due to the frantic editing. The editing also affects the fight scenes, most are shot really close to Steven's face(a 'trend' started by the ever popular Burne movies) making it really hard to understand whats going on and to actually SEE the fight..Thus even though the film does have a satisfying amount of fights, only a few are completely watchable..I think the best and most extensive fight was in the beginning with the Chinese man at the rest stop..The supporting cast is pretty good, and while Byron Mann makes a really convincing villain he is terribly underused, appearing in only a handful of scenes and failing to showcase his martial art skills..The film goes for a much darker tone than The Keeper, which surprisingly does not feel out of place since the story is much darker and brutal than Seagal's previous effort.

Negatives

-Dubbing in 30% of the film -Bad editing that ruins most of the fights, the worse since KS -Villain underused -Seagal only in 60-70% of the film -Boring story

Positives

-Plenty of action scenes -Seagal gives a surprisingly good performance -Lots of bloody action -Polished,and on a darker tone and style than TK -Good supporting cast -Effective villain -More fight scenes than TK -Stunt doubles remain "hidden"(no outrageous/blatant use of them like BOTB or Out Of Reach)

Overall my feelings are kind of mixed about this one..On the one hand it's a straightforward action film, and it doesn't take long for the action to start, also Steven is pretty good in it.But it just didn't really click with me,the editing was awful and i think we could have gotten a much better film with a bit more care..Personally I would rate it at 70%. A satisfying Seagal action movie, but keep your expectations lowered.

Typical Seagal
charlies1233 February 2010
Nothing out of the ordinary here. If you have past Seagal work, then you know exactly what to expect. I liked it for what it is. Lots of action. Lots of blood. Lots of forearm-breaking (you Seagal fans know exactly what I mean here)

As per usual, some of the lines were extremely lame. Get this one: one of the bad guys said

'we have to get him, he threatened my balls...no one threatens my balls'...lol.

How lame can you get. But like I said, I knew what to expect. It was exactly what I expected, and I liked it. Seagal is really showing his age. The big long action sequence at the end of the movie was really dark. It was very difficult to follow what was going on at times.

Dangerously passable
shakercoola18 September 2018
An American crime thriller; A story about an ex-special forces operative falsely convicted of murder. He is released from prison, only to stumble into a gangland shoot out. Rescuing a woman who had been kidnapped, he battles to protect her from Russian gangsters, corrupt cops and Chinese special agents. This a routine story and plot with stereotypical villains but it is fast-paced and gripping because of the intensity and brutality of the action scenes that never seem to stop. There are a few continuity issues and the gunfights are overlong, but it is watchable for its gung ho energy.

An improvement over the usual DTV garbage
DarkBlu28 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
OK, this was never gonna be Citizen Kane... Hell, it was never gonna be Out For Justice. But I am happy to confirm that Seagal's latest DTV opus is one of his best in a long time, fulfilling on the promise of Urban Justice and Pistol Whipped as an upturn in his descent into c-movie hell. His last movie with writer/director Waxman (The Keeper) was enjoyable enough, with some fun character stuff (for a Seagal flick, that is!) and competent film- making, although there were issues with pace and a lack of action. Here, the movie starts hard and keeps on going, only lagging slightly in the second act.

Big Steve resurrects one of his DTV staple characters - the wrongly accused, embittered ex- con. There is also reference to a Special Forces history to explain away his awesome ass- kicking ability this time. The plot is fairly straightforward, not as convoluted as they can be, despite warring criminal factions and a crooked cop conspiracy. There are a few concessions to the low-budget but on the whole it is fairly well edited and well paced.

But let's face it... what fans wanna know is how the action fares. Well, I'm pleased to report it's pretty action packed, especially for a DTV. Seagal is in hard-hitting, bone-snapping, bloodily violent form. The frequent fight scenes are let down by some too-close camera-work and jumpy editing, but we still get the sense that big Steve can still pull out the stops, there is no noticeable stunt doubling during the fights, and he even brings back some of the old school Aikido throws and locks. A highlight is a fight in which Seagal makes deadly use of a chopstick that has to be seen to be believed.

There is some dubbing involved, unfortunately, but the guy doing so is a lot closer to Seagal's voice and delivery than ever before, and as I said, no noticeable double work. He actually seems engaged in the flick, particularly in the second half coming across as natural and relaxed. There are a couple of cool supporting characters, in particular a Russian Gangster with a code of honour and a hatred for cops.

It's not going to win any new fans over, but for those hardcore fans that have stuck with the Tall Guy it's a welcome return to some sort of form, and for those old school fans that have skipped his recent work (and I don't blame you!) is well worth a look.

One of Seagal's better (Straight to DVD) movies
fmarkland323 July 2010
Steven Seagal stars as a wrongfully imprisoned akidio expert who defends a girl from Chinese mobsters (led by Byron Mann) and who joins forces with Russian mobsters to defend the girl in question. Steven Seagal movies tend to be really lame these days. In fact I don't think i've enjoyed a Seagal movie in a long time, mainly because the movies are terrible in the worst kind of way, mainly stunt doubles, the same plot about Seagal being some type of secret agent who goes rogue when his employers double-cross him (ad nauseam) Still this movie worked in such a way that I actually bought the film for 5 bucks and didn't feel too bad about such. A Dangerous Man works because it is so fast paced, certainly Seagal seems to care more than usual and it would appear he wasn't dubbed and his fight sequences have less stunt doubles. Indeed Seagal appears trimmer than usual. Still there are still some flaws mainly the story is routine and clichéd but the action element is there, Mann makes for an enjoyable villain and the chick in question is hot. Indeed you can do a lot worse in terms of Seagal movies. Indeed I must admit I only rented this (after swearing Seagal off after Against The Dark) because of his part in Machete. Although if Seagal can manage such level of quality, one won't dread renting the latest Seagal flick.

A gritty & brutal Seagal flick... it's a shame Seagal isn't like his hero roles in real life!!!!
lukem-5276014 November 2019
Sometimes it's just nice to sit back & enjoy watching Seagal take out all the evil trash out there!!!

Steven Seagal is indeed "A Dangerous Man" here & what I've noticed about most of his direct to dvd films is that they actually portray what's really going on out there in the dark world, His films have a realistic gritty realism to them, i actually think his direct to dvd movies now are the equivalent of the types of violent, seedy & dark films of the Grindhouse days!!!

Seagal's films are drenched in the gritty & grim real world darkness & deals such as Criminals, Gangs, Thugs, Mobsters, Gypsy Gangs, seedy strip clubs, serial killers, Corrupt Cops & just about all types of real life scum!!!

It's a real shame though that Seagal himself is more like the villains in his films in real life & he's nothing like his hero roles!!!

That being said I genuinely enjoy watching Seagal doing what we can't do, taking the law into his own hands & exterminating those that deserve it.

"A Dangerous Man" is one of Seagal's darkest films & one of his best straight to dvd films!!!

Like the great old school action legend "Charles Bronson" in his later years during the 80's when he was churning out lots of straight to video violent action Thriller's, he was still enjoyable to watch & now "Seagal" is doing the same with his many direct to dvd violent action films, there's definitely parallels between the two action legends during the later part of their careers but also like "Bronson" there's something satisfying & enjoyable about seeing an ageing old school action hero still out there "taking out the trash" it's just fun & that's why these guys still have a huge Cult following.

I genuinely really like "Seagal" films & even some of the one's that are hated on i often like, IT'S all comes down to what you like & what is just an easy watching experience as we don't always want a big two hr blockbuster or atleast i don't!!! That's why so many love buying these direct to dvd films, because they promise good & violent action & a familiar face on the cover, these films are basically like the cheap, sleazy & violent films of the "Grindhouse" era or the beginnings of the vhs era, these cheap low budget films can be crazy, creative, gross, sleazy & violent as hell because they will never see the inside of a cinema!!!

I love the B-movie universe, there's alot of great underrated & Awesome films to be discovered.

Most old school action stars have turned to that cheap dvd market & it's still cool to see an old school action star older on the cover holding a gun with an explosion behind them!!!

It's all that old school grindhouse marketing but in the digital dvd era.

I actually enjoy Steven seagal's films the most out of the familiar action stars as to me he's like another "Charles Bronson" but of the gritty violent sleazy direct to dvd market.

Now I'm not dissing "Seagal" for putting out cheap low budget direct to dvd films as nearly all the aging old school action stars are doing it, including Wesley Snipes & Bruce Willis & Van Damme & Dolph Lundgren & even Stallone so it's fine, it's just not all the films will be made well & be good quality but i will say this about the master "Seagal" is that I've enjoyed his direct to dvd films more than the other guys!!! Now each action star has had their "Gems" of the low-budget category but "Seagal" has made the most that are enjoyable & entertaining & one's that are nice to just kick back & watch.

"A Dangerous Man" is a very dark & moody action Thriller, it's very violent & gritty & Steven Seagal is actually good in his role of an extremely deadly & "Dangerous Man" as he plays Shane Daniels a ex-con who is released from prison after six years for a crime he didn't commit, he gets mixed up with brutal gangsters & evil corrupted Cops & it's a tough, violent action Thriller that's got a real dark, gloomy Atmosphere. A DECENT one of Seagal's many DTV action films & one that's easy & action packed fun.

A glutton for his own embarrassment...
chef_cam20051 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Poor poor Steven. How sad it is that you still consider yourself a serious action star. I just watched this turkey and now feel I have truly seen the demise of Mr Segal for my own eyes. In one word this STINKS!

Don't get me wrong about Steven Seagal. I was a fan of his early stuff - 'Above the law', 'Hard to Kill', 'Out for Justice' and even 'Under Siege' were worthy action flicks in a time when all we had was an aging Stallone, a mono-syllable speaking Schwarzenegger and an almost getting there Van Damme, to appease our need for loud, rocking, violent movies.

Seagal came out as a slick & stylish type of action man, a martial arts Bond, who had a smooth voice and even smoother moves to impress the current crop of action fans. We had never seen Aikido used in film the way he was using it. A subtle & gentle fighting style that when put to professional use could be totally devastating & ultra cool. Hell, we even began to forgive & accept that silly, little ponytail he persisted with!

But then came the rain of hurriedly made b graders that were a pathetic attempt to ride the gravy train and flood the market with quantity, not quality. 'Belly of the Beast', 'Shadow Man', 'Urban Justice' and the infamous 'Against the Dark' were an assault on the senses, unparalleled since the 'Police Academy' sequels.

Now 'A Dangerous Man' is here to add fuel to the quickly fading, Seagal fire.. In terms of budget, this movie is not lacking. It's where it's used that is the problem. No amount of cinema photography, baggy wardrobe or body doubles are going to hide the fact that this hero is a very overweight man. Especially for an EX-special forces commando who has razor sharp fighting & weapons skills that didn't diminish whilst serving six years for a crime he didn't commit. I mean really, how did he stay so well trained in there, yet gain 60 pounds? Do they have Pizza Hut delivery to state penitentiaries these days?

To the fight scenes, which are numerous and quite bloody, yet Seagal never seems to get any blood on his heavily pounded hands. Are they made of Teflon perhaps? The hand to hand combat is fast. But the producer (Seagal himself) still sees the need to speed up the frame rate constantly during every conflict, so much so that you are left with a dizzying, vertigo type feeling as you try to make sense of who is hitting who. This is quickly cleared up as you realize the hero himself is NEVER touched by any of the bad guys. Even the hardcore looking Kung fu dudes. I couldn't remember any one of them so much as laying a hand on him.

Besides Seagal, the acting isn't that bad. Just some of the situations the writer/director puts these characters in should have been properly thought out. A cop pulls over a perfectly looking car for no reason at all, asks the occupants to get out, and starts to body search them. All for no apparent reason other than to get attacked by these guys and therefore involve Seagal who is sitting in the darkness nearby, trying to drink away his sorrows. Remember, this man was a career warrior and successful & devoted husband. I wonder if this upstanding and well disciplined citizen acquired his taste for alcohol while in the joint? Whats more baffling is his willingness to help a cop, after he was put away by these guys for nothing at all..??

And even more disturbing are the sexy flashback scenes of a 57 years old Seagal fondling his naked wife who looks to be about 40 years his junior... CRINGE!!!

At the end of the day this is just another sub standard action movie. But why then does poor old Steve take it (and very clearly himself) SOO seriously?

Truly, if you want to see an overweight old man, who is covered in too much fake tan & badly choreographed fighting moves, then you'll be better off watching some old wrestling tapes of "Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant" and enjoying it for the humor it is meant to portray, rather than wasting your time on this over produced, vanity affected, past his used by date actor who looks as if Botox will be his next co-star. No thanks Steven. Again, CRINGE... *** out of TEN

Solid effort from Seagal
LuboLarsson5 January 2010
I don't think Seagal fan's will be disappointed with this one. Bearing in mind it's DTV it would be unfair to compare it to the likes of Under Siege and Exit Wounds but its definitely one his better efforts from the last ten or so years. Lots of action in this one and well done to for the quality of the gun fights. Seagal packs in quite a few brutal fist fights too. The story although perhaps a little bit more complicated than it needed to be moves along at a good pace. Byron Mann who teamed up with Seagal previously in Belly of the Beast and also appeared in Sniper 3 with Tom Berenger makes a good bad guy but he is perhaps a little underused. Recommended for Seagal fans.

Farm Animals..........
FlashCallahan8 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
After serving 6 years for a crime he didn't commit, Shane Daniels is released from jail with an apology from the State of Arizona.

Within hours of his freedom, he unluckily bears witness to a cop killing by Chinese mafia who have a kidnapped girl and a bag of drug money. Shane agrees to help the girl to get her uncle back to safety.

To do that he gets some help from Russian mafia, who's boss owns him a favour for saving his son from the Chinese cop killing.......

A massive step down for Seagal, after the enjoyable 'The Keeper'. The dubbing is back, the close up poorly edited fight scenes are back (Bourne was so 2007), and the lack of story or narrative has gone.

Seagal gurns his way through set piece after boring set piece, fighting, shooting, fighting some more. So what if his wife left him in the can? why didn't he just finish his fake bottle of jack Daniels and wash his Bandana.

Seagal here isn't really a hero, he starts fights by egging the throwaway thugs on, so we can see him fight like he's playing patty-cake.

The rest of the film is very stereotyped, we have Russians called Vlad and Dimitri, and a gang of Asian Gangsters led by, the colonel.

You'd think that with a name like the colonel, he would explain to his 'soldiers' that if you wear camouflage make-up, not to wear bright clothes.

So really it's a bit of a shambles for everyone concerned, and just when it looked like Seagal could be bothered for his fans again.

Very poor.

Steven Siegal latest action thriller
mrcibubur12 January 2010
Steven Siegal fans will definitely like this one with all the action, car chasing, fist fights with mobsters of Chinese and Russian extraction and kung fu kicking an dancing galore. The storyline is a poor one and somewhat secondary to the action of showing the character Shane Daniels who always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong (or is it right) time to solve the problem.

he said early on this film (or did he really say it?) - I know what to do seems he did because the film entertained but mr Siegal is an ageing pro and on a par with Sylvester Stallone, alas not with the polish of Mickey Rourke as in The Wrestler. it must be true from this movie - Siegal despite his age is a good action actor but he cant do his lines! The ending once again is extremely corny and it was as if they couldn't think of anything else - how did Shane Daniels have to leave the US anyway? Didn't get it despite his wrongdoing/ Ever heard of exoneration? At times the action was too quick and intense and I would agree with an earlier comment - who is fighting who - but it entertained and kept me awake in the wee early hours, but I do think Siegal (like De Niro and Caine) should contemplate alternative quieter (even silent) roles in future movies.

My God, an actual passable recent Seagal flick?!
kbtoys1007 May 2021
If you've seen one Seagal flick, you've seen them all. This is particularity true with his later DTV output so I'm not going to waste time going into details, they're all the same here but what is new is that this one actually isn't half bad!

The movie has some real action scenes throughout with the last 20ish minutes being almost nonstop gunfights. Seagal must have been feeling peppy because he even jogs for a few seconds! Ok, that was probably his double but he does move around more than usual.

If for some reason you want to see what the sensei has been up to in his recent years (besides eating at the buffet) this is one of your better options.

You have to take this movie for what it is - pure action
hellotyler27 February 2010
Basically Steven Seagal is the baddest person on the planet taking on 3 separate groups aligned to kill him and the woman he is protecting.

This is like a Mack Bolan book turned into a film. High body count, gore, Asian and Russian gangsters, a corrupt police force, with judo and 'street' fighting skills used heavily as in all Steven Seagal movies. I don't know about you but I never get tired of people getting bones snapped.

Don't look too deep into the plot because it's just a killer action flick. If you're looking for a fun action flick with cool characters and plenty of gunfire and broken limbs. Look no further. If you're looking for some kind of developed plot besides 'almost everybody dies' then you might want to look elsewhere. You should know by now what you are getting yourself into with Seagal's movies. If you like pure action - check it out.

Steven Seagal should be the next internet meme. He is much more meme worthy then that sellout Chuck Norris.

Who does Steven Seagal love ? Nobody. He killed them ALL.

Seagal with a mean streak
Leofwine_draca5 February 2011
The big man's back in business in yet another cookie-cutter action vehicle. This time around, the lacklustre plot sees Seagal jailed for a crime he didn't commit (or did he?). Years later, he's out on the streets and soon stumbles into an all-out drugs war between two rival mafia gangs: one Russian, one Chinese.

The ensuing mayhem will come as no surprise to anybody who's seen a Seagal film, as he kicks, beats, breaks and shoots his way through various bad guys without ever getting a scratch himself. From the outset, A DANGEROUS MAN stands out as one of the star's more violent outings. The portly fighter has a real sadistic streak in this one: not just content to beat up his enemies, he mutilates them as well as breaking various bones.

Quickly dispensing with an embarrassing sex scene early on, this hits its stride in good time and proves to be never less than entertaining: the plot is derivative but the story movies at speed and the action sequences are plentiful and well handled. Sure, it will never win any awards, but at least it's never boring. Fans should find this one of Seagal's better films of recent years.

A Dangerous Man
Scarecrow-884 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Dirty cops. Russians moving illegal cars. Chinese gangsters. A kidnapped girl and drug money now in his possession after interfering with Chinese thugs who kill a policeman and Russian car thief, ex-Special forces soldier Shane Daniels(Steven Seagal), just released from prison after 6 years for a murder he didn't commit(DNA evidence proving his innocence, but the time costing him his marriage), is right in the middle of quite a mess.

It's good that he has the fighting skills and capabilities to deal with constant threats while looking to help a girl, Tia(Marlaina Mah) free her uncle used as bait to trade drug money between Chinese. Sergey(Jesse Hutch)is the son of a powerful Russian, Vlad(Vitaly Kravchenko)and was stopping off while moving an SUV(his friend had to urinate) when they come across the police officer pulling over two Chinese gangsters with Tia hostage. Mao(Byron Lawson)is the Chinese gangster(working for drug lord Chen(Terry Chen)who expects to use Tia's uncle as a trading device for drug money)who witnessed Daniels' handiwork and couldn't stop Sergey(and a drugged Tia)from fleeing. Sgt Ritchie(Jerry Wasserman)is the leader of his county's crooked cops, under the 'advisement' of Chen(in other words, Ritchie and his men are in Chen's hip pocket). Vlad doesn't like Ritchie or any other cops on his turf and soon has a war on his hands..Sergey, whose life was saved thanks to Daniels(Daniels happened to be in the vicinity where Mao and another goon were killing the cop), will hold his savior in his debt. Because Sergey's life was saved, Vlad offers Daniels a hand of friendship and protection. Even more threatening than Chen is The Colonel(Byron Mann), a "Danu" warrior who has special plans to take Tia's Uncle himself. So Daniels has much to contend with, joining forces with Vlad, they will attempt to get Tia's Uncle away from The Colonel by any means possible.

Two major action sequences include the shootouts at Vlad's mansion and Chen's lumber mill, with Seagal looking superhuman thanks to camera speed and editing. Daniels' kicks send opponents hurling in the air and through windows, shelves, and other furniture. Daniels' arms move impressively quick, about as fast as a hummingbird's wings. Mao and The Colonel, neither one, are able to withstand or combat Daniels' staggeringly swift hands and stunning power. Director/writer Keoni Waxman makes Seagal look really good, though, and I think it's all too clear that cinematic techniques contribute mightily to this effect. Notice how camera speed, for instance, adds impact to Daniels' blows and movements. While an aging Seagal is no longer in his ABOVE THE LAW/HARD TO KILL prime, thanks to proper editing, it looks like his Daniels is a dangerous killing machine without an equal, even though we can figure that his stand-in stuntman carries a lot of the load with less appreciation. Still, there are moments where we see Seagal's hands engage with the enemy, and that does add value to the fight sequences.

One of Seagal's better films of recent years
Wizard-87 May 2010
If you have any idea of the kind of movies Seagal has been churning out since his last theatrically released movie (2002's "Half Past Dead"), you probably will know why I had sworn off watching any new Seagal movies some time ago, at least if I had to pay to see them. I rented "A Dangerous Man", because I read a positive report on it at another web site.

To my surprise, I found the movie to be a decent way to spend an hour and a half. Oh sure, the movie is filled with flaws. Seagal is still using an obvious double for his fight scenes (and in one shot of a sex scene), the movie doesn't manage to disguise the British Columbia shooting locations as American, there are long chunks of the movie where Seagal is nowhere to be seen, and the climax goes on too long. But I was still entertained. The action sequences (and there are quite a few of them) are pretty brutal and bloody at times, and you do get to see less of Seagal's double in the fight scenes than in other recent films of his. The plot goes by at a fairly brisk pace, and the various villain schemes and actions by the other characters actually kept me interested in what would happen next. The movie's no classic, but it does provide an acceptable amount of entertainment.

No other word can be used... Bad...
Pigpen21111 January 2010
I was just 5 min in the movie and new this is one of the worst Steven Seagal movie he has out there and he has a lot. The action is dumb the acting is even worse by Mr. Seagal and almost every actor in the movie.

I wouldn't wast your time with this movie. you would have a better time watching paint dry.

think after 5 min is not enough try watching the first 20min the story line dose not get any better every min that goes by you just keep thinking why am I watching this it almost like watching a ice skater keep falling you feel bad after the first fall but when they keep failing you just think just leave the ice and stop. now it just becoming pathetic.

Bad guys, guns, martial arts betrayal...
Aaron13753 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
...this Steven Seagal film has it all, so much all that it borders on too much. Let me rephrase that, it is too much, too much of everything! The filmmakers also used too much editing in this one, but that can be forgiven as they are trying to make an old fat dude look like he can still fight. That's movie magic! Meanwhile, we have to watch a film where we see lots of guns shooting and Steven ending up with a girl I did not want to see him end up with...

The story, well, Steven is a dangerous man, convicted of killing a man and then released from prison because he did not do it. So he is a tad bitter and we see that almost immediately as he stabs a man who tries to rob him with his gun multiple times to the point the guy probably died. He then ends up setting a rag on fire as a cop pulls over the wrong people and gets killed and another guy's friend died while the lighting of the rag and then Steven is kicking but and revealing a girl in the trunk like in Transporter and soon we get the Chinese mafia, the Russian mafia and crooked cops battling for money, the girl and an uncle whose job as an accountant...

Steven Seagal used to be pretty good back in the day with his three word titled action flicks! This three titled action flick is a bit beyond his scope and he seems kind of reluctant to be in the thing. Like he actually committed a crime and this is his sentence! The girl in this thing is really cute and so does not look like she should end up with Seagal at the end, I was expecting her to end up with the Russian mafia guy's son, but no, they went the creepy route...

So we get shooting galore in this thing and when the bullets run out the editor had to edit the film with a Cuisinart to.make Steven look good. The poor stuntmen had a bad day too as they had to throw themselves into furniture constantly to make Steven look good! Which makes the movie just not that good as the man is old now, I expect him to have a fight and have some trouble rather than having no trouble whatsoever!

Godspeed you Steven Warning: Spoilers
It all starts out with Steven beating the crap out of a guy in the first scene of the movie, inflicting a devastating brutal beat down in order to apparently, protect his wife. And now he is wrongfully accused, and sent in prison for a good 6 years... until they finally find out that the DNA to the killer and his wrongfully accused for victim didn't match. Tough luck Steven, 6 years is a long time, especially when after the 6th you receive a letter from your wife that she has to move on, just before your release! What a tease! You definitely convinced me when your portrayed your attachment to her with gratuitous scenes of awesome bare-naked breasts! Now you've lost everything, and on top of that, you decline the courts offer for tons of money to get you back on your feet (That bag full of dough you just so happen to find later, will do the job, besides, it's a faster, more efficient way of piling it up, and it involves killing lots of bad Asian American's to get it). Anyway, Steven doesn't need the court's help, he's an ex special ops. Military agent, and he can do things on his own. Nothing spells tension like the past 6 years of your life spent wrongfully accused in a prison. It's a good thing that on the way to a convenience store, Steven gets to liberate some of his anger on unsuspecting gangsters, by turning one of the two's faces into "pâté-chinois".

Things pick up quickly as Steven is caught in a pit stop turmoil, with angry Asian dudes who drive around with lots of money and a chick in their trunk. Thing's also go from bad to a lot better, when Steven absolutely obliterates a Chinese guy, and run's of with the girl, the money, and this Sergei fellow, who apparently has no emotions, because his friend just got raped with bullets and he never seemed to notice or care. Oh! and he just so apparently happens to be a big Russian mafia boss's son (Didn't look Russian to me).

So Steven has a meet and greet with the Russian mob boss, and in a minutes time (after Steven has a flawless victory over his Russian barman buddy), become brothers, to the dept he owes in exchange for the life of his son. Steven has the option to move out of the country, but chooses the path of "I never leave a fight unfinished ", and quickly ops to recapture the girl's uncle being smuggled into the country (Surprise!). I can understand him though, the girl and he, seem to harness such a chemistry together... she could even guess Steven's name ( Shane ) before he even told her (motel scene).

What follows is a brilliant brew of Russian versus Asian American violence, with a few cops involved, who fancy being openly crooked, cooperating with gangsters, all the while running around in a police cruiser and in uniforms (Makes sense to me). Steven's rampage leaves no thirst unquenched, involving a few Steven Seagal Special Moves (SSSM), such as, spawning a rope out of nowhere to defend himself from a sharp knifed attacker, using chop sticks to defeat a Chinese opponent (I always knew those things we're better at killing then eating) and of course, last but not least, beating an opponent to near death, but finishing him off by blowing up an entire building, instead of putting a bullet into his unconscious body.

Immediately following the glorious final battle(in which Steven is left completely unscathed yet again ),which included no less then : 13 times "The Face", 10 broken bones, 12 brutal beat downs and 15 kills, the movie wastes no time to roll credits, in fact, it takes exactly 51 second's for the movie to end after the fighting is over. We are treated to a sight of a nice resort in the mountains, to which the scenery looks to be cleverly taken out of a post card, and to Steven in a kick ass looking suit.Amen.

Bless you Steven Seagal, may god speed you on your way to your next movie, for I will be waiting.

A Dependable Diversion
compugor29 January 2022
Budget : $6,500,000; Gross worldwide: $166,865. Classic entertainment charitably provided. This Seagull flick perfectly represents the plethora of such productions in the slow, fat, geriatric era of his career. Of course he found a droll niche utilizing hilarious dialog and signature wrist-twisting, pattycake-slapping, bone-crunching fight moves ('Out for Justice', of an earlier era, was his best bone snapper). Lately he can only kick 'em in the shins or when they're down cause he can't lift his leg any higher lol. Even so, while super heroes have succumbed to mostly taking a beating until the very end, Seagull fans are never disappointed with his enduring invulnerability, focused omnipotence and campy coolness. His side man Byron, a comedy genius if unintentionally, singlehandedly sustains the tongue in cheek atmosphere... make no mistake about it: this is an action comedy. You can enjoy it without paying constant attention to it and by fast forwarding in spurts. Gratuitous girlyness included.

Pretty Good, Actually
qormi4 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
You never know what you're getting with one of Seagal's straight-to-DVD movies. Some, like Into the Sun, are just horrible, while others, like Urban Justice, are excellent. This one was pretty good. Oh, you had the negatives - an overweight, old-looking Seagal with labored breathing and a weird toupee' like Little Eddie from The Munsters. Also, Seagal insists on having that phony southern accent in all of his latest films. Then, there's his hot wife at the beginning of he film, who's at least 35 years younger than Seagal and she gives him a nude lap dance while he grabs her boob. The things actresses will do to get a part! Then, we have Tia, an attractive 20 year old woman and Sergey, a good-looking young man of around the same age. They have good chemistry together as they face danger throughout the film. But guess who gets Tia at he end? Here's a clue: not Sergey. Yuck! The villains were well-portrayed and the acting was very good. The cinematography was great - very well-directed and included some breathtaking Canadian scenery (Okay, the huge parking lot in front of a majestic lake with snow-capped mountains - then again, everything in Canada is snow- capped). The dialogue was pretty funny. Seagal actually told Tia to shut the **** up. Then, the head Russian dude told a dirty cop what they do to cops in Russia..I can't repeat it here, but it's classic. Seagal went over the edge in this one early on in the film when he tells a guy he's going to **** him up ugly. Then he proceeds to do with the barrel of a handgun what Joe Peschi did with a Bic pen to that guy in Casino. Then here was the unintentionally funny scene where the Chinese commandos, under the cover of darkness and faces painted black, lay siege to the headquarters. One small error - they have high-beam flashlights that would make them visible mile away. The climactic gun battle was a bit too long - it actually lulled me to sleep and I had to go back.

Typical low budget Seagal movie
sgreenfan12 April 2021
More of the same. Seagal is a "special ops" guy, just like he is in all his movies.

I have come to expect the usual from his movies.

Bad acting.

Bad editing.

Bad fight scenes.

Attractive women, that somehow cant do any better than an overweight, older man.

But putting all that aside. The movie does supply the usual violence which is entertaining.

I rate movies in 4 categories: Is it worth the price of a regular move ticket?

Is it worth seeing at a dollar theater?

Is it a Redbox movie?

Is it a free streaming service movie?

This is most definitely a free streaming service movie.

Fast-paced action movie (spoilt with dubbing issues)
dolemite7228 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
THE PLOT Seagal stars as Shane Daniels, who we first see defending his wife from a car-jacker (within the first minute or so of the movie) and after beating him up a little, Shane gives chase after the crook. Skip forward to the next day, and the car-jacker is found dead (not to mention, brutally mutilated) and Shane (given his 'special forces' history) is imprisoned for the murder. The opening titles kick in, and they're pretty stylish (showing scenes from the movie, to introduce the actors, and giving them a kind of pastel coloured background around them)

Fast forward 6 years, and it seems that Shane's wife can't wait any longer for him, whilst he's still in prison, and writes him one of those 'Dear John' letters. Daniels is now all alone, but the good news is that vital evidence in his appeal, proves that he did not actually murder the car-jacker, and he is released (although, understandably angry)

It seems that whilst this is going on, a gang of Chinese crooks are smuggling immigrants into the U.S, and they take one special refugee aside (more on that later) Anyhow, Daniels now released calls into a liquor store, and is soon back in trouble, when two (foolish) hoods try to rob him. Despite pleading with them to "leave him alone, before he (quote) "f**ks them up ugly" Daniels gives them both a severe and brutal beating, drives off in their car, bottle in hand, and heads to (what he thinks is) a deserted wasteland to remember about his wife (with some quite 'sexy' flashbacks....so prepare to get jealous, girls!) Also driving through this wasteland are two Russian youths, who stop to unload empty beer cans from their van. Suddenly a deputy sheriff in his police-car pulls up another car, and interrogates two Chinese drivers, who are reluctant to say whats in their boot, and promptly shoot the officer dead, and notice the two witness Russian youths. One of the young Russian men is killed, Daniels intervenes killing one of the Chinese criminals, and knocking out the other one. Looking in Chinese car boot, Shane finds a carry-case full of money, and a tied up Chinese girl. Daniels, the girl, and the surviving Russian drive off with the money. The Chinese girl wakes up, and tells Shane that her uncle is an important business man, who has been smuggled into the country by the Chinese gangsters, but (upon realising that he's a VIP) they've double crossed his niece, and are now holding him hostage. Daniels agrees to help her, if her powerful uncle can secure him a visa out of the U.S. The grateful Russian man, also thanks Daniels, and points out that his father is a powerful Russian mob boss, who will gladly help him out (should he need it?) Daniels and the girl, part way with the Russian, but soon realise that there's a 'tracking device' in the bag of money, and Shane finds himself killing more Chinese hoods, intent on retrieving it. The Chinese hoods, are also working with a corrupt U.S cop, who's only one step behind nailing Daniels himself. With the net closing in, Daniels visits the Russian mob boss (who thanks him for saving his son, and swears undying loyalty) but soon the Chinese hoods are blasting the mob bosses mansion, so Daniels, The Girl, the mob boss and his son, take the war to the Chinese, and attack their HQ to rescue the girls uncle.....

THE MOVIE A Dangerous Man is a fast-paced action movie, that even in the non-Seagal scenes moves along at a brisk pace, with rarely a dull moment. The cinematography is crisp, and the camera-work is great. As previously mentioned, the opening titles are really good (and get the viewer pumped up for the next 90 minutes) The film has numerous fight scenes, explosions, profanity....everything a good 'Seagal-movie' should have

SEAGAL Steven gives an OK performance (better than THE KEEPER, on par with DRIVEN TO KILL) He performs most of his fights and dialogue (read more about that later) and still has amazing hand-speed, and his usual 'baddass persona' is present and correct.

FIGHTS As mentioned there's a well spread out series of fight scenes (again, probably on par with DRIVEN TO KILL) and more (basic) 'bang-for-your-buck' action than THE KEEPER

DUBBING Probably the worst aspect of the movie. Seagal is dubbed throughout (although not as bad as KILL SWITCH or ATTACK FORCE) it's all the more infuriating that the dubs are actually the same dialogue that Seagal is wording anyhow (i think the directors should tell him to "speak up" during takes?) I'd say about 20-30% of Seagals dialogue is dubbed

DOUBLES Yes, we tend to know that when you see a shot of Seagal from the back, it's usually a 'double'. This happens quite a lot, and in a few of the fight scenes. But it seems to be SEAGAL doing most of the good stuff.

OVERALL A dangerous Man is another good movie for Steven Seagal (had the dubbing/double issues not arisen....i'd rate it higher) As it is, the casual viewer would probably not notice these gripes, and enjoy it for what it is....a simple-minded fast-paced action thriller. It's nowhere near as good (or as flashy as UNDER SIEGE 2) but for a DTV release it's a pretty good movie. If BORN TO RAISE HELL is 80% as good, i won't consider it a failure, and gladly welcome MACHETE when it hits the big screens.

Big Lee gives this movie a solid 8 out of 10

"He's ex - Special Forces - a one - man f*cking killing machine"
ianlouisiana9 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
When you hear a pock - marked dog - ugly corrupt cop describe a movie's hero thusly you can be sure he isn't going to be crooning "Somewhwere over the rainbow" into the mirror as he puts on his blusher. And so it proves as our Steve, meaner and nastier than for some time, comes off the blocks like Usein Bolt(well, probably not a lot like Usein Bolt, actually) and starts as he means to carry on,killing bad guys regardless of race, creed or colour. "A dangerous man" has a complicated plot, but just point Steve where you want him to go,rather like a Rottweiler, and unleash him and he will get the job done. Russian,Chinese and bent lawmen get short shrift from Shane the innocent ex - con with a grudge.Perhaps Steve should try playing a Nuclear Physicist or a Brain Surgeon in his next movie, just to flex his acting muscles. Despite it's lack of almost any merit as judged by orthodox standards, "A dangerous Man" is so preposterously silly and noisy and badly acted that I actually enjoyed it. I still love you,Steveie - baby.

A Dangerous Waste Of Time
lemon_magic10 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Well, not 'dangerous' in a physical sense, but I do wonder if viewing even half or a third of Seagal's output over the last 15 years might have deleterious effects on a movie-fan's sensibilities.

Lots of snappy fight choreography but riddled with so many jump cuts and special effects (this one seems especially rough on the prop furniture) that it's hard to really care after the fourth or fifth time Seagal throws someone across a room into a table or something.

There's also lots of world-weary dialog, mostly from Seagal, as he does whatever he calls "acting" these days...and there's a LOT of posing and dialog heavy scenes between 3rd and 4th level bad guys saying boring and stupid things to each other when Seagal is off camera. (I am willing to give Seagal and the director some possible credit here, maybe wanting some lesser known actors to get a little extra screen time for their wallets and their resumes. But these ancillary scenes drag the movie to a halt every time).

I dunno. This one seemed to have a little more heart than much of his recent output, but I would rather watch "Out For Justice" a dozen more times than see this again even once.
