The film is based on the true story of Jason Derek Brown, an FBI top ten fugitive.
The infamous boat party scene was re-created from real footage that exists of Jason Derek Brown. When they filmed it in Utah, it was freezing cold and the extras and actors had to suck ice cubes in between takes so that their breath wouldn't show up in the shots.
Tom Pelphrey kept up a vigorous physical routine to be in the right shape for the role.
The film was shot primarily in Utah, in 22 days during the height of the pandemic.
The film was photographed in the Salt Lake City area -- though the real crime took place in Phoenix and the script was originally set there. The real Jason Derek Brown lived both in Phoenix and Salt Lake City.
