When catching up on short films shown at the Soho Horror Film Festival, this title stood out thanks to the large amount of praise it was getting, which led to me raising a smile.
View on the film:
Meeting Borja's in-laws, writer/director Javier Chavanel stylishly lays the dining table out between the dead-pan comedic, and the creepy macabre, thanks to the stilted shots of Borja trying to speak quietly to his girlfriend, being broken by funny push-ins on the strange family members looking straight at him.
Following Borja's attempts to not bring up the appearance of the family, the screenplay by Chavanel wonderfully nudges Borja with each awkward pause further and further to addressing the issue facing him, which Chavanel takes on with a wickedly vicious twist ending,as Borja loses his smile.
