It feels like the writers either ran out of time or got replaced after writing half the film. The first half has been created with a lot of love, but the second half it seems was written with a confused state of mind, that didn't know what to do with the characters. There is a lot of humour and innocence in the first half of the film, I just wish the writers had carried on with that tone throughout the film and not taken the path of that pointless conflict between Meenakshi and Sundareshwar. The first half of the film has wacky humour and the events that unfold have a very sweet taste to them, but for some mysterious reason, the writers and director decided to add bitterness into the second half. I can understand that it's not possible for the bond between a newlywed couple, who are unable to spend time together, to be very strong, but the way they behave in the latter half of the film was almost childish. In the first half of the film, we see that Meenakshi is bonding really well with her husband's family, while in the second half she starts feeling alienated, so much so that she ends up having a showdown with the elders of the family......why did the story take this direction? More importantly, why did the writers feel that doing this would make the film better? The truth is that the movie just became a convoluted mess in the second half and it was all completely unnecessary. The ending of the film comes out of the blue and almost feels abrupt.
As far as acting is concerned, the entire cast has performed really well, but Sanya Malhotra outshines everyone else. Be it the shy and innocent girl at the beginning of the film, or the infuriated girl towards the end, Sanya Malhotra has portrayed every single emotion with perfection. Abhimanyu Dassani's role doesn't have a lot of scope, but he does come across as believable.
The cinematography as well as the music of the film is excellent. Although the background music by Justin Prabhakaran seems heavily inspired by Harris Jayaraj's
Minnale (2001) and
Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (2001), the songs are quite good, specially 'Tu Yahin Hai' and 'Tittar Bittar'.
I would still recommend everyone to watch this film just for its fantastic first half. Meenakshi Sundareshwar could have been a way better film if the writers did not have a change of heart after the first half.
