Kesha Is Horny and ‘Boy Crazy’ on Hyperpop Single
Image
With Kesha, it’s fair to say that love is (still) her drug. Today, the pop star released her single “Boy Crazy,” on which she sings from the perspective of a horny and wild-hearted femme fatale.

The song opens with Kesha’s voice filtered through an almost robotic effect, before she shifts into her signature sweet vocals layered over a hyperpop beat for the rest of the track. “I’ve been a good girl/Now I’m a connoisseur/Many men are on the menu,” she sings on the new single.

Kesha Once Thought ‘Tik Tok’ Was ‘Too Dumb’ of a Song
Image
Kesha didn’t know she had a hit on her hands with “Tik Tok.” In fact, the singer once thought the song’s lyrics were “too dumb.” After all, she does sing about swapping toothpaste for a bottle of Jack Daniel’s whiskey.

Kesha recently shared the revelation on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “When I was writing ‘Tik Tok’ it was weird because the dumber it got, the better it got,” she said. “It just got dumber and dumber, and better and better,” she added. The whole thing was confusing for the singer,...

Murderbot Review — An Ambitious Twist on a Tired Genre
Image
Murderbot is the latest science fiction series from Apple TV+, taking an ambitious swing at a well-worn trope in the genre. Paul and Chris Weitz — known for Rogue One and American Pie — bring a deadpan comedic style to the source material that proves deadly effective. However, they rarely push the envelope within the genre.

While the series can be addictive and engaging at times, it often falls into the trap common to many Apple productions: a gluttonous display of style over substance, more concerned with showing off than telling a compelling story. (It is the “Look at me!” approach.)

Thank goodness for Alexander Skarsgård, whose humorous spin on the material keeps the viewer engaged. Skarsgård’s dilemmatic turn and dry wit engage the audience enough to keep coming back for more.

Kesha Says Writing a Song Led Her to Break Up With Her Ex-Fiancé
Image
Kesha could say that writing songs has led her to be free. In a new interview with SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up on Thursday, the pop star revealed that writing music is what led her to split with her ex-fiancé.

“Basically, I find that writing songs leads me to my truth,” she told the radio show. “I was engaged and I didn’t wanna be anymore and I didn’t even realize that I was gonna break up with him until I wrote a song about it, and then I listened back to it,...

Lead single “Vanity” exemplifies this spirit of collaboration and meticulous approach to songwriting while capturing “this push and pull between adult and kid, government and governed,...

Kesha Drops Country-Pop Single “Yippee-Ki-Yay” With T-Pain, Unveils New Album ‘Period’
Image
Kesha dropped a new country-pop single “Yippee-Ki-Yay” with T-Pain on Thursday, the third single off her upcoming sixth album, which she at last revealed on Thursday will be titled . (Period, the punctuation mark).

“Yippee-Ki-Yay” follows “Joyride” and “Delusional,” both of which dropped last year, and it unites two of the more iconic voices of the late aughts/early 2010s pop sound. The track was produced by Pink Slip and Nova Wav and marks the latest in country sounds making their way into the pop music sector the genre has surged in recent years. Still, it’s not at all far-removed for T-Pain, who’d previously spoken to The Hollywood Reporter about ghostwriting country songs.

Kesha had been teasing a new album in recent weeks, updating the album art on all her previous albums to have giant pink circles covering much of the original art.

Period will release on July 4, Independence Day,...

Kesha Announces New Album ‘Period’ & Drops T-Pain Collab
Image
Kesha is back, and ready to party. On Thursday, March 27, the pop hitmaker announced her new album Period. In tandem with the announcement, she shared a new collaboration with fellow party-starter T-Pain called “Yippee-Ki-Yay.”

The festive new single features Kesha tapping into her Nashville roots, with little touches of the Auto-Tuned flair she first stepped into the game with. T-Pain, the Auto-Tune king, matches Kesha’s partying energy as he delivers a scorching verse of his own and garnishes the song with his magical adlibs. “I just got a brand new car / Hose me down at the trailer park We be lit like a bonfire / Singin' yippee-ki-yay, yippee-ki-ya-ya,” the two sing on the song’s chorus.

The collaboration, which is bound to be a contender for the song of the summer, will appear on Period, as well as the previously released tracks, “Joyride” and “Delusional.”

“Ziddi Girls Is A Whole Lot Of Fun, And Then Some More” – A Subhash K Jha Review
Image
First and foremost, Ziddi Girls, now streaming on Amazon, is a barrel of fun to watch. It is bright, bubbly, and irreverent as it brings down the ultra-conservatism of one of the somewhat starchy teachers, though, in the quest to rectify her moral rectitude, the series doesn’t villainize her.

Besides its pronounced verve, what I really liked about Ziddi Girls is that it constantly leaves room for the ‘Other’ point of view: dissent is fine. But the more normalized viewpoint doesn’t have to be booed away. If Simran playing Lata, the new conservative principal of, ahem, Matilda House (roll of the eyes), is up for ridicule, so is Prof Handa (Nandita Das), whose nose-in-the-air (preferably with a nosering) gender politics is also questioned by a screenplay that is never in the mood to simmer down.

Abundantly aggravated and chronically iconoclastic Ziddi Girls follows the craggy path of a bunch of freshers.

Stephanie Hsu Is Embracing the Renegade and Outsider Within
Image
There aren't many young actresses these days who are constantly breaking the mold made for them with every role they take, but Stephanie Hsu is one of them. Best known for her performance as Jobu Tapaki and Joy Wang in the Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All at Once, there's much more to Hsu than just that iconic role. With supporting roles in shows like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, starring alongside fellow comedians in movies like Joyride, and taking to the stage for The SpongeBob Musical, there doesn't seem to be much that Hsu can't do. Her newest joint, Peacock's Laid, a comedy series about a woman whose past sexual partners are all dying, makes her a rom-com lead. Whichever role she takes, you can be sure that Hsu is always thinking outside the box and challenging the preconceived notions that might come with the character. It's quietly become one of her best skills.

Eddie Murphy's Norbit Roasted on Letterboxd After Prime Video Debut
Image
The year was 2007 and Eddie Murphy, while on an awards season high from his performance in Dreamgirls, released a movie called Norbit to the masses. On paper, it had all the signature ingredients that have made his previous comedies resonate, and yet it was also all so wrong. The movie was a commercial success, but it was met with near-universal dismal reviews, and some out there think it cost Murphy the Oscar that year because it was released before voting closed for the Academy Awards. Whatever its legacy may be today, it's being hilariously rediscovered today and many are taking to Letterboxd to share their not-so-kind reviews of the film.

It's unclear why Letterboxd users are suddenly rediscovering Norbit, but it has been seeing its fair share of reviews within the last few days. The movie is available on Amazon Prime Video, so maybe it was an offbeat spooky season...

Amazon invests in Spotter, giving creators a path to bigger ecom
Image
When you hear about a push to advertise the latest creator product—like Ryan Trahan‘s Joyride, for example—it’s typically because that creator wants to get shelf space at big-box stores like Walmart and Target.

But why not at Amazon?

That’s what Spotter was wondering. It knew Amazon attracts lifestyle creators with its affiliate marketing program, has hosted numerous ecommerce-focused events with creators, and also deals successfully with thousands of product-makers who put their items on its virtual shelves. And, outside of ecommerce, Amazon is putting serious cash into the creator space by scooping up MrBeast‘s $100 million competition show Beast Games. Creators working with Amazon to sell their products and premium content seemed like a no-brainer.

But Spotter also knew, from talking with creators, that many of them find it daunting to approach Amazon themselves.

“Creators are coming to us and saying, ‘Hey, I would love to work with Amazon,...

Chris Pine Tells ‘Princess Diaries’ Fans to ‘Call Disney! Call Bob Iger!’ Over His Return in Third Movie Because ‘I Don’t Know Anything’
Image
Chris Pine is clueless when it comes to “The Princess Diaries 3,” which Variety confirmed earlier this month is officially in development at Disney. The “Star Trek” favorite made his film acting debut in the 2004 sequel “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.” He played Nicholas, the slow-burning love interest of Anne Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis. The film ended with the two characters coupled up, so “The Princess Diaries 3” will have to star Pine or be forced to explain Nicholas’ absence.

“I don’t know anything,” Pine said on “Today With Hoda & Jenna” when the topic of the third “Princess Diaries” came up. “Call Disney! Call Bob Iger!”

“Today” co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager expressed shock over Pine being out of the loop on the sequel. “You don’t know anything?” Hager asked.

“The answer is I’ve gotta see,” Pine added. “I don’t know anything about it.

Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild 2024 Winners Include ‘Maestro,’ ‘Saltburn,’ and ‘Barbie’
Image
The Oscar-frontrunning “Maestro” was the big winner at the 11th annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards (held February 18 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel). Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein opus took period/character makeup and special makeup effects. This puts “Maestro” in the Oscar driver’s seat (led by two-time winner Kazu Hiro) against “Poor Things,” “Oppenheimer,” “Golda,” and “Society of the Snow.”

Two non-Oscar competitors, “Saltburn”and “Barbie,” split the other wins: Emerald Fennell’s psychological thriller grabbed both contemporary makeup and hairstyling, while Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar blockbuster snagged period/character hairstyling.

TV winners, meanwhile, were divided among “The Idol” (contemporary makeup), “The Crown” (period/character makeup), “The Last of Us” (special makeup effects), “The Morning Show” (contemporary hairstyling), and “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” (period/character hairstyling).

As previously announced, Annette Bening (Best Actress nominee for “Nyad”) received the Distinguished Artisan Award, and Oscar- and Emmy-winning make-up...
