I needed more.
krs-9220221 March 2022
I need to know what happened when they went back home. I wanted to know if his brother got punched in the face for saying something inappropriate. Would the parents say that she was better for Seth? WHAT HAPPENED NEXT???

So bad, it's good!

Warning: Spoilers
I love a cheesy rom com. I mean, what are the chances your ex fiancé's identical brother is going to be the dentist in the medical humanitarian trip you volunteer for halfway across the world on a remote island?? Crazy!

What was up with the scene near the end when Charlotte was sitting by the pool all melancholy and a karaoke track starts playing? I thought it was going to turn into a musical with Frankie Avalon appearing in the sky singing "Relationship Dropout." I have to admit I was a little sad Frankie never showed up. Actually, a lot sad.

Best quote. I always thought he was a fool to let you go, but I'm so glad that he did."

This was definitely worth a watch if you have some spare time. I enjoyed the actors enough to IMDB them to see what else they are in worth watching.

Slow, boring romance
herrcarter-9216125 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This movie came out of Candlelight Entertainment, a Utah-based independent studio that's basically a Hallmark wannabe. I've seen other movies from them, and I liked a few. But in most cases, as with this one, the difference between this small studio's productions and those of a major studio are painfully obvious for anyone to see.

The premise of this movie sounded interesting on the surface. Our heroine gets jilted by her fiancee at the wedding, then goes on a medical mission to the Philippines, where she, unbelievable coincidence of all coincidences, runs into her ex-fiancee's twin brother. This premise provides maybe 10-15 minutes of interesting film time, however, and the rest of the movie is basically filler. The whole time I was watching, I kept asking myself, "When is something actually going to happen?" It was pretty boring. They treat lots of patients with mostly mild symptoms, and administer a few vaccines. They travel around the island and have a good time (this looked more like a tropical vacation than a medical mission to me). Their truck broke down once, but they were never in serious danger, and the other guy came and rescued them the next day. I kept waiting in vain for someone to get bitten by a venomous snake in the jungle, or to get attacked by a vicious animal or something. Even the scene where they were treating the boy with the broken leg was not that compelling. He was never in any real danger.

You knew, of course, from the start that Charlotte and Seth would get together, but there was never much chemistry between them. They always seemed very awkward around each other. No witty banter. Not even the initial combativeness that you often see in rom-coms. The lead actors, Shae Robbins and Mason D. Davis, seemed competent enough. But the script gave them very little to work with. "Chemistry" in a romantic movie is as much a product of a good script as anything, and this script just didn't get it done. The final "romantic" scene, where they finally get together, was way too long. It's like they were talking and analyzing everything and there was no passion. Even after they kissed, I still wasn't convinced that there was any feeling there. The other romance between foundation head Henry and the doctor Maya was also pretty much a dud.

I loved the beautiful scenery. It was shot in French Polynesia, though, not the Philippines. Otherwise, this movie was kind of a miss for me. Too slow. Too boring. No chemistry with either couple. And bad writing. Giving it 5 stars is generous, and is grading on the curve, since this movie did come from a small studio. Wish I could recommend it more highly, but I can't.

Interesting premise, with a few major quibbles.
kidlit21 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start by saying that I love made for TV quibbles, and I can overlook a lot. But there were a few things that put me over the edge with this movie.

First, the good parts--The actors were decent. I especially liked Scott Christopher and Shona Kay. Very natural and showed some depth. Shae Robin's did well, and Mason Davis was terrible as the fiancee, but better as the brother, which probably means he is a decent actor.

I liked that there was some depth in discussing medical missions and grief.

However, I had a few very major quibbles. First of all, I have been to the Philippines. The ridiculous portrayal of the people of the Philippines was a huge turn off. Every Filipino was depicted with torn and dirty clothes and dirt literally smeared on their faces. I can understand showing that they were working with disadvantaged people by having worn out clothing. But dirt wiped across their faces? The village leader and their interpreter with ludicrously dirty clothes? And not just one. Every single Filipino looked like that. It was offensive and grossly inaccurate.

Secondly, the whole time, we obviously know that they are going to fall in love. No problem. The problems will begin when they get home. But they never go home! There is no resolution! They admit their feelings and decide to try it out. But HOW? These are not minor issues. And at the end, they slip in that her wedding was cancelled only 3 months ago. WHAT?!?!! I understand rom-com time is different, but 3 months from a wedding to dating the identical twin? 6 moths would have been too short. 2 years would have made more sense to me! And all it would have taken was one line different. They would have needed major restructuring to include an actual resolution, though.

Whew, I don't think I have every written a review before, but I had to get that off my chest!

Some familiar threads except for the twin thing
Jackbv12327 August 2022
Stood up at the altar is a common premise. The bride retreats to a tropical paradise, which is also common. I can't think of a premise where she encounters her ex's twin, but I bet there is at least one.

I thought that the acting and dialogue were mildly stilted or unnatural. But the relationships, both of them, were given plenty of screen time and that was nice enough. I wondered where the conflict was going to come from, especially with Charlotte and Seth, so it made sense but it took me by surprise. Overall, the pace seemed slow. Which was probably because the story needed more.

I liked Shae Robins despite times when it looked like she was trying to hard. There was some chemistry with Mason D. Davis.

At times the background music is distracting - it doesn't fit the particular conversation.

A movie I wasn't expecting to enjoy as much as I did
NZNaturalKiwi6 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was refreshing to watch a movie where the storyline was one that I hadn't seen before. It was nice to see the little moments where Charlotte started to see Seth as someone other than her ex-fiancé's twin brother, as a man she could see herself with.

The side storyline with Maya and Henry was sweet too. I'm just happy that Maya wasn't pushing him and was willing to go at his pace.

I was hoping for a bit more of a dramatic medical emergency scene but I'm just happy there was one.

I was hoping that the movie would end with Elijah getting a text from Seth with a caption like 'Meet my new girlfriend' or 'I met someone while I was here'

Portrayal of Filipino people offensive
deskisamess27 September 2022
Did anyone actually do any research of Filipino people? Perhaps the villages portrayed in the movie are made up poor people, but would they also all be filthy? Smudges of dirt on their faces and torn clothing seemed to be the only direction given to the costuming and makeup people on the movie.

By comparison, the white saviors in the movie, the beautiful doctors all have perfectly applied eye liner, lovely coiffed hair, and designer garb.

There also seemed to be a lot of down time for these visiting doctors. Sitting by the ocean, sitting by a pool, while the doctor in charge runs around doing all the prep work for the next village they will travel to. The actual doctoring portrayed really cut in to the leisure time and chatting.

Totally unrealistic, and totally offensive too all things Filipino.

10/10 for Original plot, and well filmed considering the pandemic limitations
SunnyDaise11 January 2023
I understand the criticism of this movie regarding the unauthentic casting of many characters - but remember this was filmed in the pandemic when travel was restricted.

With that in mind, what matters to me is the plot/content and this is a really original story for this genre. There's quite a bit of sadness, which I always like as it gives these movies more emotional depth. Normally I'm looking for all-age-friendly movies with a cross-generational cast, but although this pretty much just focuses on the four team members, it is still a show all ages can watch, so it suits my household fine. Overall, this is a movie I would watch again because of the good plot and age of the characters - I wouldn't grow out of it like movies that are too age-specific.

Boring
rhonnie-431393 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie in stages of boredom. GAC plays the same movies all the time and it was also on Prime.

So I started watching it on Prime got bored 15 minutes into it and stopped. I forgot about it for awhile until it showed up on GAC a few times months later.

One night when there wasn't anything on that I was interested in watching, I forced myself to watch another 15 minutes of this movie. Got bored again and did some cooking. I returned about 10 minutes before it ended to watch the ending. That was boring too.

I think the story behind how the lead actress got to the seaside location was riddled with flaws. The guy who dumped her has a twin who happens to be at that location. This twin is a "free spirited" doctor who looked really scruffy and bored; like I was watching the two of them.😂

The good thing about the movie was the location - it is gorgeous. I also liked that they were helping to care for those who could not get medical care. But even the people playing the extras in those roles looked bored. Yawn.

Doctors without borders, sort of.
TxMike25 January 2023
My overall impression, now that I have watched it, is that it is rated a bit high for what it is. The premise is interesting and the location, the French Polynesian Islands, in the South Pacific halfway between Australia and Peru, is extremely photogenic. But the whole movie plays out like a long soap opera episode. By that I mean almost all of it involves relationship conversations between two people. Frankly too much of that and too little attention to possible side stories.

It starts with a young bride being virtually left at the altar. She is in her wedding dress when her fiancee tells her he won't go through with the wedding, he doesn't think they are really best for each other.

The lady is a physician, when another doctor has to cancel his four-week volunteer trip she decides to fill in for him. It is a good choice, it should help her get past her breakup.

Big problem. When she gets to the overseas location she finds out her ex-fiancee's identical twin brother, a dentist, is on the same assignment, they will both be staying in the coordinator's house. Along with a lady ophthalmologist from New Zealand.

The title of this movie pretty much tells us where it will go but we don't know what all will be involved in getting there. My wife and I watched it on FreeTV via Prime streaming, we found it to be a mostly entertaining and interesting diversion, however in reality not that good a movie. Too much talking, talking, and talking about feelings and fictional relationships.

Disappointed
lisakcruz10 February 2024
Was excited when I heard the storyline was going to be in the Philippines. Filipinos speak English as well. Would have been good for Hallmark to give credit to true Filipinos and filmed it in their country. They are not dirty people with smudges on their face. And the comment about was the good safe to eat was insulting. The storyline was sweet but the movie could have been better if it was more authentic to the culture. Maybe the next time if they decide to do a movie representing the Philippines, they will do their research on the country and the people. Saying all of this, I can't give a good rating. Goodbye ba-bay.

A lot of untapped story potential - ? Sequel
skpn12329 March 2022
This was a fun and interesting journey though could have become a gripping series - so much to explore. I deducted a star for the distasteful reminder of the poisonous jabs ferried out to remote islands - oh no.... not content for a fun escape film.....

inaccuracies are glaring
phd_travel15 February 2024
Falling for the identical twin of the man who dumped her. Interesting aspect about looking beyond the outside appearance to see the person inside. Twins can be totally different inside is the message. But that doesn't take away the icky factor if the sibling's ex. The male lead is a bit sickly looking. More like a patient than a doctor. Shae Robins is fairly sweet if indistinguishable from many other actresses.

There are a few shocking inaccuracies. Filipino peoples speak English and do not need a translator. Why would they do that in this day and age. Also the islands with the jagged peaks are totally Polynesia. So unlike S E Asia. Should just have set it in Polynesia instead.

Not worth watching.
