Mumbai, Feb 28 (Ians) Actress Saiyami Kher will be seen playing the role of a para-athlete, a cricket prodigy in R.Balki’s ‘Ghoomer’ which is a sports drama. The actress said that it is not at all an easy role for her as although she grew up playing cricket, in this film, she has to portray a character with a disability.
Saiyami said: “I play the role of a left-handed bowler in ‘Ghoomer’ and, for me, in real life, I am a right-handed player. I could never actually step into the shoes of a real-life para-athlete, but even the small hurdles I had to overcome being an athlete myself, reminded me of things we take for granted.”
The actress, who worked in ‘Mirzya’, ‘Unpaused’, ‘Special Ops’ and ‘Breathe: Into the Shadows’, shared further how she prepared herself for playing this character on-screen physically and mentally. She said that essaying this...

Saiyami Kher is known for picking her roles very carefully and has made some of the most versatile choices. In the latest, Saiyami is teaming up with Gulshan Devaiah for her next, which is an untitled drama genre film. The project is being produced by Anurag Kashyap and currently it’s been shot in Hyderabad.
This won’t be the first time that both actors will team up. Earlier, the duo had worked together in the anthology ‘Unpaused’ Season 1, produced by Amazon Prime.
Saiyami says, “It is an interesting project and something that will stay with people for a long time. Gulshan is an amazing actor, extremely creative, extremely versatile. Capping off 2021 on a high note, Saqib Saleem bowled us over with his act as Mohinder Amarnath in 83 and it seems the streak of power-packed performances continues. The 83 actor garners flattering reviews for his act as a migrant and thief in Ruchir Arun’s Teen Tigada from Amazon Prime’s latest anthology Unpaused: Naya Safar. As the streaming boom gets stronger in India, Saqib marks his presence across the Ott scene, having already charmed the big screen with Kabir Khan’s sports drama.
What excited Saqib about the film is that it touches upon different lives and their overwhelming situations amid the pandemic with sensitivity. Unpaused: Naya Safar consists of five stories helmed by five prominent filmmakers – namely, Nupur Asthana (The Couple), Ayappa Km (War Room), Ruchir Arun (Teen Tigada), Shikha Makan (Gond Ke Laddu), and Nagraj Manjule (Vaikunth).

Unpaused Naya Safar(Amazon Prime Video, Anthology Of 5 Stories)
To paraphrase a beloved pop songs of the 1970s: “All You Get From Covid Is Covid Cinema”.
Luckily for us Unpaused Naya Safar is not only well worth our time and attention, this five-tiered omnibus is better more sensitively designed than the first season that came in 2020. Unpaused Naya Safar actually constitutes 4 stories of varying merit, and one outright masterpiece.
Quite like Neeraj Ghaywan’s Geeli Pucchi in the anthology Ajeeb Dastaans, Nagraj Manjule’s Vaikunth in Unpaused is so far ahead of the other four segments it deserved a full feature-length treatment. It’s like the Amitabh Bachchan of the anthology towering above the rest with its razorsharp brilliance and acute insight into human nature during stressful times. An aching darkness spreads over the story as the film’s protagonist , a cremator in a crematorium who suddenly has a full...

From Mumbai noir to plantation Macbeth, Kerala’s more dynamic and independent-driven industry is responding urgently to the pandemic
The first occurrence of Covid-19 in India was officially recorded on 30 January last year in the city of Thrissur in the southern state of Kerala. Since then, Kerala’s capable handling of the pandemic has meant that it has been largely spared the brutal scenes and tragic images of the second wave of the pandemic elsewhere in India. Likewise, Kerala’s Malayalam-language film industry – right now the most dynamic of all India’s multiple regional producers – has seen a talented pool of young, new-wave film-makers deal superbly with the virus.
Where the Mumbai-based behemoth of Bollywood has barely chronicled this life-altering reality – the anthology Unpaused, released on Amazon Prime Video, is almost its only offering – Malayalam cinema is grappling with Covid with diverse film-making forms, styles and themes.

New Delhi, Feb 17: Filmmaker Nitya Mehra made her debut with the 2016 Bollywood feature film 'Baar Baar Dekho'. The film starring Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra was released amid hype but fared below expectations. Mehra focused on the Ott space and struck gold. She was show runner of the popular show 'Made In Heaven', and also directed one of the stories of the anthology film 'Unpaused'.
While she hopes to return to the big screen next year, Mehra, who is currently working on Made In Heaven 2 and another anthology film, feels expansion into the digital domain should be accepted as a natural progression.
"When television came, people on the radio were worried. As we evolve, there will always be new things that come out and they may give a run for money as they say. Ott platforms have given theatres a run for money...

Actor Gulshan Devaiah says the greatest fear for an actor is to be forgotten and become irrelevant.
"The forgotten become irrelevant and that's the greatest fear for an actor. This can be anybody's reality. It's a tough business. It kills the mind, breaks the spirit of people & yet we come flocking in the thousands. Best wishes to Mr Samir Khakhar & everyone else who's an actor," Gulshan tweeted on Saturday.
His post comes as a reaction to a post which stated that "Samir Khakhar who played the role of Khopdi in Nukkad is looking for work".

Sumeet Vyas hails from the theatre background and has become super busy in the Ott scene lately. This year he had four digital releases -- the series Official Bhootiyagiri, Wakaalat From Home and Dark 7 White, and the web film Unpaused.
While crossovers into Bollywood or the web zone normally happen from the worlds of modelling or television as well as, lately, the social media space, Sumeet feels different sets of actors enter the profession driven by different motivations. There are those who chase the calling for fame and glamour, and then there are people like him, he tells you, who are simply in the game for their love of acting.
"I think we should not look at the background of an actor while watching them on screen, but only the performance. Yes, the ticket to Bollywood has changed. Earlier either it was modelling or theatre actors entering the world of cinema and TV series.

Unpaused (Amazon Prime Video)
Directed by Raj-dk, Nikkhil Advani, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Avinash Arun Dhaware, Nitya Mehra
Straightaway, I must say the anthology comes as a welcome surprise.
When I heard of a Covid anthology I thought it would one of those let’s-make-hay-while-the-sun-shines kind of obscenely exploitative ventures. Thankfully, the films are born out of compassion rather than greed. The Covid theme flows organically out of the stories, and the characters are never allowed to feel sorry for themselves. These are bright stories burnished with a directorial acumen that elevates the theme from a topical statement to an enduring experience.
In the story Rat-a-Tat(inaptly clever title just because it’s got a rat in it) one of my favourite segments of the omnibus, a 65-year old uperclass woman(Lilette Dubey) finds herself getting close to a young feisty Maharashtrian girl who moves in from nextdoor when a rat infests her apartment.

Mumbai, Dec 8 (Ians) Filmmakers Raj and Dk, Nikkhil Advani, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Avinash Arun and Nitya Mehra will explore the themes of new beginnings and moving on through five different short films, which have been shot during the ongoing Covid pandemic.
The five short films comprise the anthology "Unpaused", the trailer of which was released on Tuesday.
Raj and Dk have made "Glitch", starring Gulshan Devaiah and Saiyami Kher. It is about a hypochondriac man who meets a strange girl on a blind date.

We loved making the short, as we tried a new style and genre! It was a bizarrely unique experience shooting it during the pandemic, and with all kinds of restrictions," said Raj and Dk.
