In "A Hole in Smurf," Gargamel was shown capturing eight Smurfs in their golf course, but when he returned to his home to bake them, nine Smurfs appeared in a casserole.
In "A Hole in Smurf," an un-named Smurf saw a gopher and its hole which inspired him to invent golf. However, gophers are native to North and Central America, not Europe (which is the background of the Smurfs cartoon series), so that gopher should have not appeared at all.
Gargamel seems to know elements of golf (holes, landscaping, flagpoles, etc.) in setting traps for the Smurfs at night even though he did not bother to learn more about the sport when he returned home after his first exposure to it.
