Wellspring

When Jess and Melody go into the camera supply store, Jess gives the clerk a claim ticket and is handed a plastic toy-like video camera. This is the PXL2000 camcorder, manufactured in 1987 by Fisher Price (with its usual child demographic in mind). What is particularly unique about this camera is that it did not use any sort of videotape - instead, it captured low-resolution monochrome video and audio to a standard audio cassette (there is a brief clip showing its visual quality when Jess videos Melody, saying "I make movies too.") Its moody, noir-ish aesthetic has made it highly collectable amongst artists, media historians, and filmmakers - there is even a film festival (PXL THIS) which is dedicated to projects shot exclusively on the PXL2000.

When Melody is trying on clothes while filming herself, the camera pans up and down, but the camera in her hand doesn't move.
