Some of the things they did with the story were good, but this just misses out on the snappy dialogue and fun sight gags of the original. I think overall this just feels too safe, Disney isn't really trying anything new or pushing any boundaries.

Marshall loves horror movies. His best friend Gilbert does not. It's Halloween coming up. Marshall challenges Gilbert to ding dong ditch and it goes badly. There is something strange going on in that house. Amy is the new girl at school. Her two dads had split up and she can't wait to get out of town. She's an aspiring writer and recruits the two best friends in an investigation into the house with a suspected mummy.
This is a preteen children's horror comedy and a remake of a 1997 Disney movie. I've never seen the original. The kids are a newbie, a Disney veteran, and a voice over actor. The production is similarly a mixed bag. It's a kiddie movie with a kiddie mummy. There's limited CGI and nothing that flashy. Some of it is basically home-made. I like it, sort of. I like the amateurism of the kids. I like the silliness and campiness of the mummy although there could be less of him in one scene. I like the general sense of the group. The bad guys could be scarier. I'm guessing that they dial down the horror aspect for the little kids. Non of this is anything scary. It's fine for younger ones.

I dont get what the point is of wasting money to make a terrible remake just to modernize something and be more inclusive. It doesn't make the movie good. Focus more energy on making good movies with good acting and script. I don't even know how the cast got into acting. I could pick up random people from the street and bet u they can do better. I dont care to be offensive. Things get worse as time goes on. Can't compare to original .

We all know Disney is more corny than anything but it seems in the last decade, the shows have produced mediocre acting, directing and writing. Under wraps, the original, was a classic of the older Disney made movies for tv that had a better story line. This new version, while still Disney, is a very sad attempt to recreate the original. The costumes for the mummies themselves are laughable and not even close to being slightly realistic; i.e. Makeup still on the mummy's eye lids (uh yeah that would have been gone a long time ago), the fact that the mummy was directly exposed to direct air and humans with no protective barrier...etc.... Disney write's and costume designers got very sloppy and lazy and honestly should be ashamed of this movie. The dialogue is juvenile and lacking and shows Disney's lack of understanding true kids of today.

As someone who definitely isn't the target audience for this movie I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
It's typical DCOM faire, with mostly hammy performances and the odd really good one in there to carry it.
The three leads are all pretty decent too, at least much better than some I've seen in low budget straight to TV movies, and although very campy, The Mummy is played to appeal to kids very well.
I'm hard pushed to say anything too negative about this, it was a fun way to waste an hour and a half while I caught up on some work.
It's a bit strange that the lead decides to name the Mummy after his dead Grandpa, that was the only 'what? Seriously?' moment for me, but I guess it was done to show how he desperately wanted someone to fill that void in his life having lost someone he was really close to.
If you've got pre-teen kids with nothing to do, put this on for them they'll probably enjoy it!

My GF told me "under wraps is coming to Disney plus!" Actually surprised, I reinstated my membership just to watch this throwback. Sure as s*** it's some new teeny-bopper version of it. In dismay, I watched this new version, and to no surprise I wasn't thrilled. The original movie was in part spooky, part funny, and mystery. This movie I feel tries too hard to make the mummy modern? Or humanized even though he is a human? The actors in this are also god awe full, and the mummy looks like some human/dog hybrid in a lab. Definitely did not do the original justice, and if this is what we can expect for Haunted Mansion, they can keep all of it lol.

Granted, when I sat down to watch this Disney family movie, I wasn't really expecting all that much. Sure, Disney is not known for putting out rubbish, but still, the concept of this movie seemed a bit bland. But I opted to give it a go, so I sat down and watched "Under Wraps".
And I will say that writers William Robertson and Alex Zamm actually managed to string together a rather wholesome and entertaining family movie. And yeah, I was entertained by this 2021 movie, so there is also something for a mature audience to be enjoyed in "Under Wraps".
The storyline turned out to be rather enjoyable and actually nicely enough written. Sure, this was a family movie, so it wasn't a scary one. But at the same time then "Under Wraps" would provide a younger audience with enough of a rush to be suitable for a great Halloween movie.
The acting in "Under Wraps" was good, and I will say that the actors and actresses all performed quite well here and contributed to the overall feel of the movie.
Visually then "Under Wraps" was also good. Sure, this is not an over-the-top CGI joy ride like other movies that are focused on mummies, but the practical effects used in "Under Wraps" were sufficient and good enough for a movie such as this. What mattered here was the fact that it was believable and watchable for the entire family.
If you have children, then this is definitely a movie that I can warmly recommend you sit down to watch with them, especially around Halloween.

The Most Enjoyable DCOM In A Long While.

Even though I'm 23 years old, I still love Disney Channel shows- mainly ones like Sydney To The Max(my favorite one), Coop and Cami Ask The World, and Gabby Duran and the Unsittables. As for their Disney Channel Original Movies(or DCOMS, as they are usually called), they can be hit or miss for me. I didn't love Upside Down Magic, but I enjoyed Kim Possible and a few other ones from the last 5 years.
That said, Under Wraps is the most enjoyable DCOM in a long while, since Kim Possible in my view. The plot follows 3 friends- Marshall(Malachi Barton from Stuck In The Middle), Gilbert(Christian J. Simon from Sydney To The Max) and Amy(Sophia Hammons). After visiting a museum, they accidentally bring a mummy to life- one who was stolen by evil neighbors.
When they discover that they have to return the mummy in 3 days or it will turn to dust, they overcome the hurdles to achieve their goal- including Gilbert's fear of all things scary.
The most enjoyable aspect of the movie was the acting chemistry between the 3 friends. They worked great together and were believable as friends- and most notably, they all did great in their parts.
However, my main flaw with the movie(my removed star), goes to the unbelievable screams of one of the kids, who I will not name. You know how parents fake scream when their toddler "scares" them? This kid's screams of legitimate fear sounded like that. Apart from that critique, their acting was fine.
The entertainment value was great for a movie aimed at kids. I was actually on the edge of my seat often and anxious to see how the kids escaped every dangerous situation they encountered. (Darn you, commercial breaks!)
Not that DCOMS look bad or anything, but Under Wraps, a remake of the very first DCOM(unseen by me), looks very well done and modern for a TV kids movie. Nothing revolutionary of course, but the colors are vibrant and the camerawork is well done.
If you want a treat for a Halloween kid's movie rather than a trick, this is one I would highly recommend. Under Wraps mainly appeals to the elementary and middle school crowd, but I had a fun time. Families could enjoy this one together- just be wary of jump scares. I'd actually like to buy this one on DVD.
Note: Some DCOMs, such as Invisible Sister, do not have DVD releases. Please Disney Channel, release this one!

My 5 year old loved this movie. The Mummy meets Encino Man. It's a heartfelt effort from Disney; it does exactly what it says on the tin. Gilbert is a star, we'll be watching the career of Christian Simon with interest. In fact, they should all do well hopefully. It's a shame that the gentle inclusivity warrants a 1/10 from many repressed users who find it difficult to be objective. Come on, even Battlefield Earth has 2.5. If you're going to give anything 1/10 it says more about you than the movie.

First of all, we must consider that this is a film for children and must be judged as such.
The plot is extremely simple and everything, from the lines to the characters, is made for a very young audience.
However, the accomplishment isn't bad.
The film is nice and with a pleasant setting. I'm not ashamed to say that I smiled in a couple of steps, perhaps because it reminded me of the movies I watched in my childhood.
Sure, there is better but just as surely there is worse.
If you have children, I recommend that you give them a chance.

Enjoyable film with decent plot and actors.
The final battle was a bit anti-climactic though as the kids want more slap stick and a longer home alone style battle instead of a 3 second fight!

There's a fairly subtle Easter egg reference in this derivatively boring Disney Channel original movie to "Z-O-M-B-I-E-S," another Disney Channel original movie. I caught this easter egg both immediately and proudly. So that's where my life is right now.

Tried watching this with my 6yo who loves spooky things, and she was way too scared. Lots of jump scares and suspense in the first 20 minutes, we had to turn it off. Not sure why it's rated TV-G, seemed much more appropriate for preteens.
Having watched both for the first time, I prefer the original

I didn't really watch the original Under Wraps when it came out in the 90s, but having watched both the 1997 version and the 2021 version in the last couple weeks, I think the original is better. This remake doesn't really bring anything new to the table, and I don't think the child actors are as good. In fact, one of them seemed to be doing a quasi-Steve Urkel impersonation which was more irritating than entertaining. Little kids would probably like this, since it's a non-scary Halloween movie, but if my family and I are going to watch a silly mummy movie, we'll watch the original Under Wraps.

This remake of "Under Wraps" is a poor attempt to recapture the original's charm and nostalgia. The story line feels rushed and lacks the heart and depth that made the original so popular. The pace of the story and "modern messaging" are erratic, and honestly dull. The new cast fails to capture the likability of the characters in the previous film, resulting in performances that appear forced and uninspired. The original's humor, which was an enjoyable aspect, appears forced and falls flat in this version. It lacks the original's sparkle and wit, which made it the original so engaging for both kids and adults.
Furthermore, the film's visual effects and production quality are inadequate, giving it a cheap and rushed aspect. The mood and spirit of adventure that were so important in the original are noticeably absent. While remakes frequently aim to add something new, this version fails to provide anything remarkable. Malachi Barton connects with his character, Marshall, in a believable way. Christian J. Simon's Gilbert is very funny; Christian is funny in real life as well. He makes giving a solid, amazing, thorough performance look easy. Sophia Hammons gives a dynamic, well thought out performance and shows the variety of ways she can connect with different emotions while portraying Amy. The costume for Harold is well thought out, with incredible special effects. He looks and seems like an actual mummy. My favorite character is Amy because she is very brave, incredibly smart and she is not afraid to speak her mind.
This message is to embrace people's differences and to not judge a book by its cover. When Harold is brought back to life after thousands of years, people seem to fear him - when he's really trying to help them out. You discover that all Harold wants is a friend and our three friends learn to accept him for who he is on the inside, beyond his wrapped-up-mummy-outside.

Cute remake

Despite the original being corny and cute, this one felt more of a sequel then a remake. It had it quirks and was on that it's so cute it'll make you vomit. But in the end it was exactly what I thought it was going to be. A film that's diverse, cute and very "Disney". The cast is likable and Disney throwing small LGBT+ mentions is a plus. It's not very scary nor creepy just cute. But the cast seems to inspire friendship and inclusion.
Given the movie isn't Emmy worthy or Oscar worth but it's worth a watch and definitely a cute family film for generations to come. Maybe the film will grow a following maybe it won't, just give it a watch and see what you think.

Great movie I wish they did second movie with the same cast and add more cast members to the movie. Like it did with the zombies.
