Dr. Meredith Grey
- Dr. Meredith Grey: I was so mad at you.
- Dr. George O'Malley: What, for leaving you?
- Dr. Meredith Grey: For choosing someone over yourself.
- Dr. George O'Malley: I didn't know I was gonna die.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: Do you regret it?
- Dr. George O'Malley: Does that matter? You'd have done the same thing. Isn't that why you're here?
- Dr. Meredith Grey: [smiles and laughs] Yeah. I guess. So it's YOUR fault.
- [Both laugh]
- Dr. George O'Malley: How do you figure?
- Dr. Meredith Grey: Because you... went all in. For everybody. Your friends, your family, a woman at the bus stop. You think that didn't somehow affect me? You changed my life, George. I didn't say it then, but it's true.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: Derek said the sand isn't real.
- Dr. George O'Malley: Yeah, no. Neither is the ocean. It IS nice, though. I wouldn't want to leave either.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: The beach?
- Dr. George O'Malley: Your kids.
- [chuckles]
- Dr. George O'Malley: Got great kids.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: They're the best. You didn't meet them.
- Dr. George O'Malley: I check in sometimes.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: How did you get older?
- Dr. George O'Malley: Sand isn't real, the ocean isn't real. The body... it's not real. Maybe it's just more peaceful for you to imagine me older?
- Dr. Meredith Grey: You sound like a fortune cookie.
- [Both laugh]
- Dr. Meredith Grey: And the single biggest factor for cultivating resilience? Positive relationships. So find your people and keep them close. Because when you're at your lowest those people get you through.'
- Dr. George O'Malley: Do you still dance?
- Dr. Meredith Grey: Hmm?
- Dr. George O'Malley: When you're sad or you're stressed, do you still... dance it out?
- Dr. Meredith Grey: No, not so much anymore, not since Cristina left.
- Dr. George O'Malley: Cristina didn't die.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: I know.
- Dr. George O'Malley: That's what I miss about being alive. Dancing til you drop. Laughing til you cry. Food. Textures. The crunch of cereal as you eat it from the box. The feel of clean sheets and a good pillow at the end of a long day.
- Dr. Richard Webber: I've got the consent forms for that clinical trial... And there's one more space, and... I have to decide, and... it could be the best or worst decision of my life. Your doctors, your friends, your family. They're worried about you. I'm trying to be strong for them, but I'll admit... I'm struggling. Seeing you there like this... and not knowing what to do.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: [in COVID coma dream] I'm sorry, Richard.
- Dr. George O'Malley: And choices. So many choices. So many ways to live a life.
- Dr. Richard Webber: [Seeing Meredith shaking in bed, still unconscious] Meredith? Meredith, what is it? I'm here. I'm right here.
- Dr. George O'Malley: If you stay here, it might break him.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: I know.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: [Mumbles weakly while still unconscious] I know, George.
- Dr. Richard Webber: [Leaves room and hands drug trial form to Deluca in hall] Get her in.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: Do I choose? Do I get to decide if I go back?
- Dr. George O'Malley: I don't know. I didn't. I would have stayed if I could've. It's different for everyone, though.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: I was devastated when you died.
- Dr. George O'Malley: You were all cracking up at my funeral.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: Well, we were...
- Dr. George O'Malley: No. What? What? No. It -- That made me happy.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: I was devastated. And then I was okay. And even with Derek... Eventually you go on. And the kids would go on.
- Dr. George O'Malley: They would, but... I think maybe with them it's different. My mom didn't go on.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: No?
- Dr. George O'Malley: Not really, not like she used to. some grief is -- is heavier than other grief. Sometimes it moves through you, and sometimes it just gets stuck. And you carry it, like my mom. My mom carries it. Sometimes I try to shake it out of her.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: What?
- Dr. George O'Malley: Like, you know...
- Dr. Meredith Grey: Like you haunt her?
- Dr. George O'Malley: Well, I mean, if you want to call it that, I... I just want her to... let it go. I want her to know I'm still me even though she can't touch me, and she can't see me, but I am still me.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: It's not the same.
- Dr. George O'Malley: No, I know.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: Derek said the sand isn't real.
- Clifford Ndugu: Yeah, no. Neither is the ocean. It IS nice, though. I wouldn't want to leave either.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: The beach?
- Clifford Ndugu: Your kids.
- [chuckles]
- Clifford Ndugu: Got great kids.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: They're the best. You didn't meet them.
- Clifford Ndugu: I check in sometimes.
- Dr. Meredith Grey: How did you get older?
- Clifford Ndugu: Sand isn't real, the ocean isn't real. The body... it's not real. Maybe it's just more peaceful for you to imagine me older?
- Dr. Meredith Grey: You sound like a fortune cookie.
- [Both laugh]
