This episode, along with a bunch of recent ones, are too wordy, preachy, the characters are talking to each other as if they're giving a lecture. Doing very unrealistic stuff, like talking on the radio (even though it's a "side" channel) about child care and other personal nonsense.

A more balanced approach ...

... on police work and civil right issues, even if the plot itself falls a little short in this episode. But it's good to see the series finally seems to find a way to show more points of view instead of blatantly trying to idealize the characters away from real world issues every cop as to deal with - especially if he or her *wants* to do right.
The conclusion of this episode is still sugarcoated, but the message is right: Don't treat each other as enemies, but as someone you have to work things out with. Meet halfway first, go the rest together.

Interesting way of filming

High score deserved for one short scene.

This episode is dealing with an Amber alert and a newborn baby being abducted from the hospital.
I'm not going to get into how preachy 'The Rookie' has become with its propaganda-filled scripts and ethics biased writing that have been the staple focus of series 3 since George Floyd and the BLM movement. 'We get it' and everyone sees what you're trying to do, but please just give us honest, well written scripts without the over zealous use of preaching the difficulties of being an LAPD Officer within the script, that's not what viewers are watching for!
That being said, the acting cast are sublimb and deliver good, honest and strong performances as always, and in this episode particularly, they deliver a punch of pure, strong emotion in the final few scenes, the bridge one in particular. Well done on such a great scene.
More like this please.

Episode we been waiting for

One of the best episodes of all three seasons. The woman with the baby scene was intense and very realistic. Loved the story arch of the rookies graduating and felt for Nolan at the end. But his TO was there for him when he needed it and was a great feel good moment.
Ok, wont give this one a high grade this time around.

To be honest. NOlan, Lucy, Grey, Tim, Nyla, Angela is really great characters, but this show doesnt earn the right to use them, to be honest. Sure its not a disaster this time. But its in sense back again to woke anti-police politics... again. DIdnt the show learn about bad writing from episode two till six? Obviously not.
But why I give this episode an ok grade is because this time around, they did at least try to explain why policing sometimes gets so wrong. Just like all people, police-officers are just that... People. They do make misstakes, but as the show says, majority of these people are good policeofficers and good persons.
So at least there was both sides this time around. The discussion was there, but not really, because it was rigged from getgoing.

The Last Shift
claudio_carvalho28 October 2021
In the last shift of West and Chen, they go to patrol with their T. O.s Lopez and Bradford respectively. Lopez Angela has many concerns with her pregnancy and decides to stay with West in his last rookie day while Chen wants to hear from Bradford that he will miss her. Nolan, who still have thirty days to conclude his training, goes with Harper and his Professor Fiona Ryan that is writing a book about the LAPD. Out of the blue, they receive an Amber Alert and need to look for the missing baby that will affect the racist professor.
"Amber" is another reasonable episode of "The Rookie". West and Lopez show a perfect chemistry, but Chen looks loke a silly person in her last shift. The racist Professor Ryan is the annoying part of the show with her stupid comments. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Alerta de Sequestro" ("Kidnapping Alert")

Shaky camera
jdonalds-516 April 2021
Okay I understand some person(s) in Hollywood long ago convinced a few directors that camera shake would make the scenes more realistic, like a novice was doing the recording. So they have the hand held camera operator abnormally move the camera, or actually have some other person grab the camera and shake it. Just quit doing that.
The problem with this technique is it instantly takes me out of the action and makes me think about the camera and camera operator. It's distracting but not in the way you'd want it.
For me camera shake, artificially induced, has ruined too many movies and TV shows. I often can't sit through it and stop watching the movie or episode. Amber had a number of scenes where camera shake was introduced. It may have been to simulate video from a body cam but that was never part of the episode.
Otherwise this episode had some interesting dialog and action.

Who doesn't like Nathan Fillion? Right? The showrunners have ample opportunities to put together great stories with a good cast. The constant pounding of self righteous left wing gibberish about the intersectional stack of pain and victimhood is unwatchable. The use of the "ethics" professor to espouse radical woke views as if these are the ethical position is an affront to rational people everywhere. Stop it children.

because it was serious & funny &
had discussions that 1st time moms
face when deciding on birth details
including what medical procedures
to ask for & the icky parts of
giving birth
but they left out the frantic
pre birth hospital plans that can cause
panic & fear & some violence
among 1st time expecting parents

Joshua Bitton crushes his one short scene

Warning: Spoilers
Came and logged inhere just to write this review.
The episode is pretty good for the Rookie. It has the standard fair of someone skeptical of the police being put in the middle of a crazy situation that forces them to realize the importance of ethical quality policing.
But there is one scene with a father who lost his baby, played by Joshua Bitton (came here to find out who played this extra), and he was very impressive.
The other reviews talk about the bridge scene with the mom being powerful, but the scene with the dad is really good. He is very real in his emotion and reporting of the events. Real scene stealer. Surprised I don't see more credits for him here.

So tired of crucifying the police
swalker-173057 April 2021
I understand that it's unavoidable for Hollywood to embrace the "hate the police" movement. At the same time they increase the number of people of color to appease the social justice crowd. It's very hard to get more diverse than the original cast.
I'm sick of it. Get back to telling a story. They do a fine job with police procedural which has made the show. I'll give it a couple of more episodes, but staying on this path will lose me forever.

Will this show ever be good again?

Can't believe how bad this show has become. It's called "The Rookie" but is now becoming "The Soapbox" a public service political vehicle to try to address social ills, and it even does this badly. It's as bad as a low budget afternoon special, designed to not too subtly cater to those wanting to pretend they know how to solve the corruption of law enforcement. The actors who are normally good, can barely spit out the dialogue out without sounding like they are reading because it is such pandering drivel. Officer Nolan, ostensibly the main character has been relegated to a supporting role, and his character is severely underutilizing the talent that has made Nathan Fillion a star. The main stories of each other character are un-engaging and tedious like a bad soap opera. I feel sorry for the actors having to repeat the terrible writing they are given.
Please stop pandering and make this show about entertainment again. You are not going to solve social injustice on a tv show.

Here we go again....
viccrown10 April 2021
Here we go again, take a great show that was very well put together, and then when a drug addict dies of an overdose in the real world, it's time to switch the story up and go with the narrative that "all cops are bad". It's especially just tasteful to make sure you have one of the prisoners say "cops round up all the black guys, because that's what they do...". I'm probably going to give this show a few more episodes to see if they pull their head out of their rear end, but if this blatant distain for police continues, I'm through.
Propaganda saved by the last 10 minutes

Warning: Spoilers
The teacher gets a ride-along without Nolans consent and says that she wrote a book about changing how the police should work without interviewing a single cop. She then proceeds to be very predictable and make everything about race. The dialogue feels unnatural like they are bluntly trying to send a specific message out. But then the episode take a turn because they finished all the forced dialogue and return to policing and that saves the episode. The whole scene on the bridge is awesome. Also, I think that the whole Lucy "pretending" to be into Tim to show how she would be great undercover was her actual feeling (shippers can hope). All in all a weird episode that culminated great.
Jumped the shark

At least it had some plot...
dierregi2 August 2023
... but it was a rather distasteful episode, yet another used to preach and patronise. Not only the "drive along" was a sanctimonious lesson, but even Chen turned into a distasteful character.
Can you imagine if Tim had told Chen he had feeling for her and then he burst out laughing "Just kidding!"... what a jerk, right... but since she does it, then she has a point to prove that she's ready to work undercover. Goodbye and good riddance, I would have said if I was Tim.
The final prank was childish and kind of mean. Do people really to avenge all the perceived mistreatments they receive? I wonder if anybody noticed how silly Chen behaviour was.
And by the way, since I am watching all the episodes one after the other, mostly because my husband likes this show, I noticed that 98% of the criminals are white, with just the occasional sprinkle of Latinos and Oriental. Good to know that in LA there are only light-skinned criminals.

This show is going down hill...fast.

Warning: Spoilers
Please go back to the basics. By my count Nathan Fillion's character should have been dead half a dozen times by now. They are making light of a very dangerous and at best a difficult job. Having the female characters talk about birthing practices on a recorded radio line is ridiculous.
