Life is a Banquet (2009)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Very good documentary taking a look at the life and career of four-time Oscar nominee Rosalind Russell. The documentary covers her early life, time on Broadway, her "B" movie parts and of course her eventual rise to films like HIS GIRL Friday, AUNTIE MAME and THE TROUBLE WITH ANGELS. At just under a hour, this here certainly isn't the end-all, be-all on the life of Russell but I thought it was still highly entertaining and there's no doubt that it's going to give you a pretty good overview of her life and career. A wide range of subjects are covered including her married, her friendship with Frank Sinatra and her later battle with cancer and arthritis. Her son is also on hand to share many great stories about his mother and various aspects of her life. Fans of Russell are certainly going to enjoy watching this as we get all sorts of great clips from her movies but we also get to hear from many people who knew her. Again, this film doesn't go into great detail or personal matters but I think it gets the job done for fans of the actress or those who are wanting to know more about her.
