VIEWS ON FILM review of The Wrong Mr. Right
burlesonjesse518 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
"Looks like you picked the wrong Mr. Right". You go Vivica! Vivica A. Fox gets to say her umpteenth "Wrong" Lifetime line in 2021's The Wrong Mr. Right. David DeCoteau is of course, the director and he churns out "Wrong" Lifetime flicks faster than Joey Chestnut at an eating contest.

The Wrong Mr. Right was released in January of this year and features Eric Roberts in a cameo as a snide private investigator. DeCoteau uses Roberts and other Lifetime regulars in a film that has less plot holes while unfolding a little better than most "Wrong" vehicles. He starts "Mr. Right" from the middle as there's no courtship between the main characters or initial development with said characters. Just think a feasible yet less effective version of last year's The Wrong Stepfather (or The Stepfather from 2009).

Watching "Mr. Right", you know that certain people are eventually going to get whacked by the antagonist (the question is who). You also know that those people will never get justice for being killed because the po-po don't seem to wanna investigate their disappearance.

Starring the beautiful Krista Allen, the miscast Anna Marie Dobbins (she seems a little old to be a college student), and the miscast Rib Hillis (he doesn't seem menacing enough to be the villain), The Wrong Mr. Right is just what it says it is. It's about a woman named Tracy (Allen) who has a new boyfriend named Paul (Hillis). Paul is shady and Tracy doesn't know it yet. It's up to Tracy's daughter Jessica (Dobbins) to inform her that Paul is a scammer or possibly something worse (like a murderer, duh).

Here's the thing: I hate it when the bad guys don't get caught at the end of these "Wrong" Lifetime pics. I also hate it when they dispatch people on the side and are never arrested or brought in for questioning. Give me a better diegesis and I'll give you a rating that's not again mixed. "Righty-right".

Entertaining but annoyingly silly

Warning: Spoilers
Great movie if you like over acting. The mom is a ditz. Vivica is perfect in another wrong movie. Some plot issues but that's expected from a movie that must be produced from start to finish less than a week. I'll give the actors credit for all looking younger than they really are. And that's not sarcasm. But I have some questions. Was there a reason to have that basketball game other than to show beefcake to the women? Wasn't it a little to convenient for her to leave her phone on the sofa at the exact wrong moment? Notice how Hal's office has hardly any clutter. Very minimal files and papers as one might expect. I doubt that phony prenup is very legal. And furthermore, their house is not a home. It has nothing to indicate it is nothing more than an interior decorated model home. Why in the world does the bad guy leave all his incriminating junk in such an obviously stupid un-hidden box? Very stupid ending in regards to what happened with the bad guy.

Well

These films are quite predictable, but really entertaining. I just can't stop watching them! They're set in nice places, but use the same house in a lot of these films. There are the same actors, Vivica Fox and some others, who just make the film classy. It isn't bland, its cheesy in a spicy way! With this particular film, a teenaged girl is suspicious of her mother's new boyfriend and noses around, until she finds odd things about him. Her mother's character comes across as a dimbat, for believing everything this man says!

Worst LMN movie I've seen yet.
newvahner16 January 2021
This movie is so bad it's got the worst acting and for someone who likes lifetime movies in general this one sucks at like it really high level. The plot itself would be good if the acting was better. The mother the actress who plays the mother should not be a paid actress because she cannot act. Literally the biggest disappointment to come out of LMN in The last 5 years. Don't bother watching because I have seen fifth grade plays better than this.

Bad acting, predictable plot, waste of time!

Terrible acting. Same actors as seen in dozens of other movies, so they all start blending in! Story is bad and uninspired!

Bad but I finished it
CranberriAppl17 February 2021
The two actresses in this were pretty bad (Krista Allen was great on DAYS and she's not bad in most of her Lifetime movies) Rib was a total ham but you expect it of the villain. The storyline wasn't anything new but Lifetime needs to step it up . Woman totally smitten by a man who isn't all he seems. Doesn't believe her kid who has discovered his unsavory nature. You know this story but we excuse the predictability....sometimes. If we can't get rid of this story template then Lifetime needs to come up with more creative ways to get mature women who should know better to fall for conmen after two weeks. There's another movie where a mom with a college bound daughter turns over her finances to her brand spanking new husband and he wipes out everything. Does it happen in real life? Sure, but sitting through this scenario in these movies gets tedious.

Some scenes were hard to sit through and the story was just so ridiculous that I can't believe I finished it. Vivica had the most natural acting as did the boyfriend's dad. Jessica for all of her caring about her mom was quite obnoxious.

This isn't exclusive to the "Wrong" movies, but I absolutely hate how often the villains get away in Lifetime movies these days. In this one, old boy got shot in the leg, managed to get away and didn't even leave a trail of blood! In spite of accepting that it's a campy movie, that just really ruined it. It was great back in the old Hollywood days where those who commit crimes had to be punished. None of Lifetime's villains are Hannibal Lector or Michael Myers so enough of this get off scot free trope. There's even a movie where a guy is electrocuted in a bathtub and he rises to keep killing.

There are much worse movies on the network so this is not a terrible way to spend two hours or have as background noise but there are better "Wrong" films in this franchise.

P. S. This house is so excessive, but I guess it's supposed to be a sign that Mom is rich. But it looks quite empty. I'm sure in reality, the walls are bare and there's hardly any furniture because Lifetime reuses sets and doesn't need to spend a lot of time redecorating. But it hardly looks lived in. The boyfriend's home was the same way.

The usual fun-to-watch LMN thriller
mja588 March 2021
Single parent mother meets up with single man and he moves in - the interesting plot point here (to me, at least) is that mother and boyfriend are the SAME AGE.

My observations:

1. Rib Hillis just does not come across as a bad guy - he should be playing a neighbor, friend, or the like.

2. The daughter comes across as a complete TOOL.

3. Mother admittedly is desperate for some action with her boyfriend.

4. Eric Robert's character is played as if he's an old coot. Eric is my age (does that mean I'm a coot as well?)

5. Ending is kinda strange - I want Vivica as a bodyguard.

Watch this with a sense of humor and some drinks.

So wrong it's right
vbacon-111-57832919 January 2021
If you're watching this movie expecting something different from your standard LMN plot, you need to learn more about LMN movies and Vivica A Fox's 'Wrong' movies in particular. I'd swear there's another LMN movie with this exact same plot (hidden identity discovered by the damsel in distress).

If you're ok with all of the above, then this one isn't bad. I'll give it a 7 mainly because of Anna Marie Dobbins. She does an excellent job here and is becoming an LMN movie regular. Let's hope we see her in more of the same and for her to move on to bigger and brighter roles.

Queen Vivica A Fox
aprilsfriendorin27 January 2021
The Queen of Wrong movies strikes again with this masterpiece! Unfortunately, there was not nearly enough Vivica in this movie. They wasted too much time on that less impressive main actress, which is why I can sadly only give this national treasure 9 stars instead of 10. Next time, just give us 2 hours of Vivica standing in a room please. That's the content we need.

Eric Roberts is in this movie!
Chartreuse119 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
He plays the PI who investigates the Wrong Mr. Right and comes to an end, unfortunately. Movie is OK but predictable. However, Vivica A. Fox puts an end to the masquerade of Paul played by hunky Rib Hillis. Would definitely watch again just because of him and he's a pretty good actor, too!

Warning: Spoilers
Pathetic acting and even more pathetic ending! I Tracy is the typical LMN dumb clueless mother! Frankly she deserved to be taken to the cleaners! Feel embarassed for Anna Marie to be in the middle of amateurs! And as for Vivicia, give it a rest with that stupid line already!

Yet again Rib Hills plays the villain, in this one the con artist. He has done countless Lifetime thrillers in all of which he has either played the psycho killer or the con artist. I do not know what is up with him. At least with all other familiar Lifetime regulars they do not always get cast stereotypically, take Krista and Anna Marie for example both of them have also played bad guys as well as good guys.

Anyway, this is another Vivica movie with her trademark "you picked the wrong" movie, which I think is a pretty pathetic trademark and cheesy line. I do not see the purpose of it, even though the titles of most of these trademark movies do start with the wrong. But still, that final phrase I find to be cheesy and unnecessary.

So yet again it's a movie about a gullible and desperate cougar mom who rushes into a relationship with someone (Rib) she hardly knows. The daughter played by Anna Marie Dobbins is very sharp and is not too happy with the developing relationship between her mother and her boyfriend, and alongside mom's best friend and her boss Vivica they keep telling her not to rush into things.

But next thing she is engaged to Rib and announces it to her shocked daughter and worse still sets the date for the marriage for the following week.

And then when the daughter storms into her room and she follows her and while sobbing defends her decisions and actions and reasons, which are all pathetic excuses.

Anyway the ending is semi-happy because Rib fails to con the mother and milk her for all the money and assets she has, but as in most Lifetime movies, despite getting shot and while no one is looking or at least keeping a gun pointed at him while someone calls the police, he magically disappears and in the final scene we see him in another city moving in on his next mark.

Whoever says this movie is entertaining they need their head seeing to in my opinion.
