Don't take it too seriously
aidanratesmovies1 October 2021
Very entertaining and well done despite its tonal problems, Bingo Hell is a strangely wonderful little horror gem that isn't afraid to do whatever the hell it wants. I weirdly found myself quite happy with how this film turned out, it wasn't as B-ovie as I expected it to be, in fact it had some surprisingly deeper moments. Tonally this film is all. It can be a bit sentimental at times, a bit goofy, a bit dramatic, and just plain absurd and creepy. It's a mess of tones and it shows that the writers truly didn't know where to go with the story at hand, but it does manage to grab you ever step of the wa and always keep your attention. The acting is quite good surprisingly with Adriana Barraza as the obvious standout, and some other good supporting performances from L. Scott Caldwell and the infamous Richard Brake. The cinematography is an interesting blend of old and new, and the music choices are absolutely excellent. It can be a bit ridiculous at times, as well as tonally frustrating, but in the end this weird bingo horror flick did manage to surprise me and prove to be enjoyable all the way through. It's by no means a great film, or even a good one, but it does manage to be a fun ride.

My Rating: 5.1/10.

Annoying
Neon_Gold15 November 2021
This was super irritating. The voice editing is so annoying. There is so much shouting but not in like a meaningful way. It just sort of devolves into a screaming match with the name of the town it takes place in repeated every other sentence.

I waited and waited and waited...

But it just never got here. It caught my interest from the start. The opening was bouncy, with intrigue. Then it opened up too many paths to follow. Then it got soapy and peachy.

Nothing worked after that.

I'm A Bingo Caller

Nearly as bad as actually going to the bingo. Plays off as a poor attempt at Needful Things/Wishmaster type horror and fails miserably, it's just not as clever or fun as those other horrors. Hopefully the other Welcome To Blumhouse movies are a lot better than this.

Blumhouse can no longer be trusted to make decent films
sian_b_badger5 October 2021
Actually playing bingo would have been more fun & wasted less of my lifetime.

Advertised as an Amazon original film, like it is something to be proud of. My dog makes poo all the time but you don't hear her bragging that is is an original dog creation.

Hell, Indeed...
franca134 October 2021
This one was utterly excruciating to sit through. Predictable, cheesy, poorly written, and freely utilizing offensive tropes and stereotypes throughout. Not one likable character, especially the main character. Never have I wanted to punch a bunch of old people in the face like I did watching this movie. Sorry, Grandma 🙁.

I gave it a 1 because 0 wasn't an option.

Expect nothing and you'll still be disappointed
ballitup-435184 October 2021
Amateurish. Felt more like a cheesy episode of Goosebumps (except for the minor gore). Terrible acting fueled by even worse writing. Cringy. The way it tries to use music to manipulate the mood as if it hides the trash on the screen is embarrassing. Viewers should feel personally offended that its' creators felt this would pass as anything more than a high school art project.

Brake through
kosmasp5 October 2021
No offense to any of the actors in this (mostly at least decent performances), but Richard Brake takes the cake. And if a movie is only as good as its villain ... well this should be way better rated by me I reckon.

That aside (and I have no idea if there is a novel/book this is based on), the movie works on a certain level even if it does seem to be stuck in first gear for most of the running time. So yes there are pacing issues and the social commentary may be hammered home too much ... still you can have some fun with this ... certainly with Richard Brake ... did I mention how great he is in this? Well he is an awesome actor so there is that ...

Fun popcorn flick with a sentimental message
drusillablakey2 October 2021
To the casual viewer this will seem like a dumb movie about a grumpy old lady who hates that her neighborhood has changed. But I ask that you please take a moment to consider that this movie is actually a flash back message for us about how back in the day, neighbors actually knew one another, watched their children grow up together and became families. So when you see how drugs and violence have wrecked your once happy community you become suspicious of anything 'new'.

This is what happens in this film when a fancy new Bingo Hall suddenly appears over night. The neighbors start to investigate exactly what is going on, when large cash prizes are being handed out, but sinister things and ill fates befall anyone who 'wins big'.

Basic truths are explored in this film: Greed, drugs and what does family really mean? And yes okay, some crazy super natural killings and gore are thrown in there, but in the end, we see a community come together to protect their own. I recommend checking this one out as Richard Brake is fun to watch in this over the top performance and Adriana Barraza is super feisty.

Maybe I'm odd Bingo Hell is pretty enjoyable!
UniqueParticle11 October 2021
Richard Brake is an excellent villain and holy crap the horror bits are awesome! I understand the hate for sure but if you don't take it seriously and just enjoy for being a horror nerd you'd probably enjoy it too. The main old ladies are kinda enjoyable to watch. Some scenes are ridiculous for sure otherwise I really appreciate this weird amazon treat.

A let down, but some great scenes and visuals
korythacher25 October 2021
Bingo Hell did a few things really well, but most things weren't great, and it was disappointing. Despite the 4/10, I am glad I watched it. I can't recommend it, but I think it might be worth the watch as long as you keep your expectations low and want to enjoy the visuals and a few great scenes.

What went right?

Basically every scene with Richard Brake (Mr. Big) was insane, and great to watch! His smile, his laughter, the lighting, and camera work were all fantastic. It was a spectacle worth watching and literally the only reason I liked the movie. Unfortunately you don't get a ton of him on screen.

The production quality was fantastic: everything was clearly lit even in dark scenes, all the sound was balanced and I never needed to adjust it. The camera work was a little *too* ambitious, sometimes dizzying, but they accomplished some really awesome shots so it was worth it. I hope to see some similar stuff, just reigned in a bit. They do a lot of lighting effects that I thought worked pretty well, which is an easy thing to mess up.

What went wrong?

Story-wise, they had an ok idea, but just didn't make it interesting enough or put the pieces together clearly. I thought I'd love the tough old-lady main character from the trailer, but she just felt awkward to me the whole movie. I didn't like most of her dialogue either, but luckily some of the other characters were pretty entertaining when they got screen time.

They didn't do enough with the actual horror elements, but when they used them they were quite good. They had some really crazy death scenes, but didn't do enough of them. The logic for the demon didn't really hold up in some regards, and there was almost no build up. It seemed like they couldn't decide exactly what the demon should be and it made it clunky.

It escalated too quickly and it was a ton of wasted opportunity since they didn't spend time on the most interesting parts. They had some mysterious details (like slime) that they set up and never used again. A big chunk of the movie started to get old as it drifted into mediocre-drama territory for too long.

Disappointment at its finest
nataliegoldsmith-681997 October 2021
I thought this movie was absolutely terrible! I honestly can't believe it even aired. It started out bad & kept getting worse. I'm very disappointed in this movie, if I could un-watch it, I definitely would. What a waste of time?

Ultimately a disappointing movie...
paul_haakonsen6 February 2022
"Bingo Hell" wasn't exactly a movie title that just screamed for attention. I happened to stumble upon this 2021 horror comedy in 2022, and I hadn't even heard about it before. I didn't know what the movie was about, who starred in it, or anything. I knew that it was an Amazon original movie and it was a horror comedy movie, and that was about it.

And just having finished watching writers Shane McKenzie, Gigi Saul Guerrero and Perry Blackshear's 2021 movie, I can't claim that I was overly impressed with the storyline. Sure, "Bingo Hell" was watchable, but it was by no account a memorable or outstanding horror comedy.

The storyline was sort of ridiculous and rather pointless actually. And it was difficult to find much enjoyment in the movie.

I will say that I was thrilled when I saw that Richard Brake was in the movie, and yeah it was definitely the highlight of the movie that he was there and he definitely put on an interesting performance. Just a shame that the storyline was just such rubbish.

I found very little entertainment in "Bingo Hell", so I wasn't impressed with director Gigi Saul Guerrero's movie. And this is not a horror comedy that I would recommend you rush out to get your hands on. Watch it if you get the chance and if you have nothing better within hands reach.

My rating of "Bingo Hell" lands on a three out of ten stars.

There really is not one positive thing to say about this work of garbage. I feel dumber for watching it. Fortunately I was multitasking while it was on so are last I accomplished something. I suggest not watching it.

It's hard to believe a group of people collectively agreed on funding this movie. I thought it was straight garbage. I turned it off half way through. Dont bother with this one. 3 stars.

Terrible -2
Horror_Flick_Fanatic30 October 2021
I could not recommend this film to a friend. The only likable actor is Richard Brake because he performs his role very well. When I say this film was a torture to watch, I say it without an ounce of exaggeration. The dialogue is terrible. None of the characters are interesting. The Chicana-Spanglish dialect is screeching chalk against a chalkboard to my ears. This from a person fluent in both languages. For a mature woman to talk in this street dialect was too much to bare. Perhaps the film might have been better with the full Spanish dubbed voice track?

It Was Cheesy
gab-675992 October 2021
But an all around good movie. Some parts were slow, like when she was putting on lipstick. But what really made this movie was their acting, I still have women like this in my life. The acting was GENUINE! So you could picture a granny being in a situation just like this. Lupita reminded me of my ex mother in law, I still drive her to bingo anytime she wants to go. I love a good horror movie and this was a bad one. It was just not great, I would say it was more of a 6/10. But I could not get over how the two leads reminded me of someone in my life currently.

Loved it!
zillizard20 October 2021
This movie was a wild ride with a lot of visual interest, likable characters and a menacing villain. Though it lacked the twist of a more classic horror genre film it was thoroughly entertaining and I would definitely watch it again. The main characters were all cast well, acted phenomenally and really made me care about the outcome of the events of the film. I loved the layers of metaphor and symbolism and the fantasy interspersed with reality- it made me question what was real and what the character wanted to see. Bravo!! Would definitely recommend as a late night fun watch!

A Very Stephen-King Effort!
TheJonesBones2 October 2021
If you like stories from the master of modern horror, then I bet you'll like this movie, too. It's a very Stephen-King tale about a rundown - but very proud - little town named "Oak Springs" where Bingo and little old ladies rule. Lately, the Bingo parlor has become a prime attraction where every loser can win big, Big, BIG!!!

Of course, nothing is so simple or easy. Is it?

You'll enjoy this unknown cast - a very commendable effort all around. The story moves and the dialogue keeps you listening. I don't know whether you'll want to play Bingo afterward, but I bet you start taking pissed-off old ladies a bit more seriously! I'm talking lethal hot-flashes here, people!

Watch the first fifteen minutes of this film with an open mind. After that, you'll see what I mean!

Worse than terrible
wilberandkaren20 October 2021
There was nothing in this film that-to me-was funny, interesting, good, or in any way possible to follow. From the pink hues throughout the film, the heavy-accent-Spanish cursing without any real cause/purpose other than to possibly enhance a scene that would otherwise be totally dry and without intrinsic comedic value, to the lack of demonstrable purpose in the story I saw everything as really dull. I enjoy most stuff that comes from Blumhouse, but a few recent additions to their portfolio have me on the fence about the quality of products in their lineup and upcoming titles.

Possibly the worst movie ever made by Blumhouse
jennifer-b-oneill24 November 2021
There is absolutely nothing to commend this movie, and it's a massive disappointment coming from Blumhouse. I have no idea what demographic Amazon thought it would attract that it was willing to invest in this drivel.

I realize that this is intended to be a sendup of B horror movies. However, the movie is truly worse than the movies that it's attempting to satire. For instance, there is no subtlety or nuance to the acting that might suggest wit is in play. Every mannerism, every syllable, and every expression is overblown, and not in a fun, campy way. The incessant shouting of each sentence makes you wonder how the actors are able to continue at this level without eventually passing out from lack of oxygen. The furrowed brows, curled lips, and flared nostrils are so grossly rendered that the faces appear to be viewed from the wrong end of a telescope.

The composer of the soundtrack must have received the same memo, since each scene features soaring violins, loud brass waah waah waahs, and dissonant clarinets bleating staccato into the mix. Watching the performance will quickly wear you out, just as you would become physically exhausted from listening to two hours of polkas at full blast.

The cast appears to have been randomly selected from an AARP membership directory. No one demonstrates any talent other than the ability to maintain an offensively exaggerated accent consistent with the actor's "Black," "Hispanic" or "Italian" ethnicity. The script religiously adheres to these same stereotypes, with racial cliches appearing in literally every sentence. Until I saw this movie, I didn't know that older Hispanic women prefer to utter every other word in English (eye roll).

With the acting, scenery and script beating you about the face for attention, you may not initially notice that this "horror" movie does not contain a single moment inspiring fear. This banal tripe lacks even a single jump scare. Don't mistake the "hipsters are taking over our neighborhood " plot line for a heartwarming drama, either. You'll quickly join the wrecking crew in razing the houses and building a coffeehouse for dogs on every corner so that you never have to watch this movie again.

This movie was terrible. I get that it's supposed to be cheesy comedy/horror but my god. The story line isn't followable and the characters are all awful. What a shame for Blumhouse - I excepted better from him.

Can't believe Amazon put their name on this
davetrou14 October 2021
This might be the worst film I have ever seen. Cheesy, campy, overacted, bad direction, bad camera work, bad editing. I think 3/10 is being kind.

Cardboard characters, bad writing... everything about this movie is bad.

This gets my nomination for Worst Picture of 2021. And it'll be a long time before I watch another Amazon picture.

quirky, gory fun...
ops-525352 October 2021
At a retired bingo hall driven by retired retirees, the managment overtaken by a new managment trying to under take the rest of the survivors due to a public buy out for a new urban development of the neighbourhood.

Its a horror flick, the cast are not top notch and fairly scripted, the gore sessions coming abruptly will make the fainthearted sidewind and leave this to the core horror comedy lovers, cause the slimy bloody core factor is simply high. So if youre in for a good old british/irish elderlies bingo hall comedydrama, then youre out.

Being old and grumpy miself i think this was far to slow and stretched out, its by all means joking around with the bingo fanatics, and its all american made, but a recommend needs lots of translation so i leave that to the other english as birthlanguage to do...
