Bio-Slime and Putting Indie Horror into (Gooey) Context: A Movie Review
*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by director John Lechago.

Director/writer: John Lechago.

Producers: Vincent Bilancio and Tai Chan Ngo.

This reviewer knows John Lechago mostly from his excellent directing work on Killjoy 3. This was a film with a lot of imagination, putting characters in a hellish, but fun world. This film starred Victoria De Mare and Al Burke. Both of these actors also star in Lechago's latest called Bio-Slime. Previously called Contagion, Bio-Slime has been referred to as a blob movie: "a decent blob movie" (Monster). This reviewer would simply call it a B-movie, or a film likely to see a DVD release and made for under a million. Bio-Slime's budget was much lower than this with much of the finances dedicated to special effects artist Tom Devlin's creations. The appearance of porn stars Gia Paloma and Roxi Devill are merely a...

New Release: Bio-Dead DVD
Entertainment One will release the 2009 science fiction-horror movie Bio-Dead on DVD on July 26 for a list price of $24.98.

Hazmat suits are the uniform of the day in Bio-Dead.

Touted by its distributor as “Resident Evil meets Alien,” Bio-Dead zeroes in on the aftermath of a biological disaster in Southern California that’s contaminated some 4000 square miles, turning it into a wasteland known as “The Zone.” A grisly tomb for 12 million infected corpses, it’s also home to a vicious predator that has even nastier plans in store for the rest of the human race. Pity the poor hazmat team that enters a seemingly uninhabited structure in the middle of “The Zone” in search of survivors…

Written and directed by Stephen J. Hadden and starring Matthew Norton, Derek Long and Tony Williams, the film premiered as a Video-on-Demand title in August, 2009.

Bonus features on the DVD include the following:

-Behind-the-scenes footage...

Bio-Dead Attacks: A Movie Review
Director: Stephen J. Hadden.

Writer: Stephen J. Hadden.

Bio-Dead is a Time Warner Video-On-Demand selection for 2009 and the film blends science fiction with horror, in a grotesque fashion. A film with a claustrophobic feel, Bio-Dead offers a good time, but skimps on the size of cast and settings. A second film for director Stephen J. Hadden, fans can check this film out if you feel you can handle the gore!

The plot is simple, direct and revolves around four workers who must investigate the contaminated "Zone." The story takes place after a bio-terrorist attack in southern California. Millions are dead and a corporation has been given the green light to find survivors, retrieve bodies, and generally clean up the "Zone." However, things get complicated when a supposed safe area turns out to be a haven for the genetically mutated. Can this team of four bio-hazard workers (Tony Williams, Jacob Gentry,...

Stephen J. Hadden's Bio-dead finds decent distro with Lightening Media
Here at Quiet Earth we hear about, and report on, a lot of cool looking post-apocalyptic cinema. Some of the films we report on find their way into theaters and onto DVDs around greater North America, but a lot of them just disappear, unable to find decent distribution. Stephen J. Hadden appears to be on the lucky end of that spectrum as he's just told us that Lightning Media, a Los Angeles based motion picture distributor that often works in tandem with Anchor Bay and Lionsgate, has secured the North American and UK rights to his post apocalyptic themed horror film Bio-dead. Yep, that means we'll all actually get to see it, and hopefully soon.

From the release:

"We are thrilled that Bio-dead has found a home with Lightning Media," Hadden announced today. "I was extremely impressed with Lightning’s vast catalogue of horror, thriller and sci-fi titles. They are...

Woh La '09: The Live Webcast
Last weekend, visitors to Fangoria.com, along with our friends and followers on Twitter and MySpace got a window into the world of our Los Angeles Weekend of Horrors. Through our first-ever Live webcast from a Fango event, those that couldn't be there with us in-person were given the rare opportunity to chat Live with some of our favorite horror celebrities, unannounced surprise guests, and up-and-coming independent filmmakers.

While the weekend may be over, clips from the Live event are being made available as a part of our "archive stream", so everyone can re-live the experience.

The guest list for the webcast was immense, with a completely casual, and unscheduled approach, tying into the "You never know who might show up!" tagline. Among those who popped in: Toby Wilkins (Splinter, The Grudge 3), Mick Garris (Masters Of Horror), Neil Marshall (Doomsday, The Descent), Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV, Repo!

He also passed on a couple of new exclusive pics, which you can see below.

Bio-dead, which was produced by Manfred Drews II and stars Socket’s Derek Long, Matthew C. Norton, Tony Williams (first photo), Rick Hall and Jacob W. Gentry (second photo), takes place in a near future where Southern California has been rendered uninhabitable by a bioterrorist attack. Exclusive pic, comments on Italian-influenced Bio-dead
Writer/director Stephen J. Hadden sent along the exclusive makeup FX photo seen below and some info on his new fright feature Bio-dead. The pic features actor Derek Long, recently seen in Socket, in the midst of a sequence in which prosthetics “were applied to his face and torso to simulate knife wounds, burns and a gouged-out eye,” Hadden tells us.

Long stars in Bio-dead as Benson, leader of a hazmat team sent to search for survivors after terrorists unleash a lethal toxic weapon into the atmosphere over Southern California. Deep within the uninhabitable region known as “The Zone,” they come across what appears to be an empty building, but after venturing inside, they soon find themselves being stalked by a vicious predator, while suffering from frightening hallucinations.

“Bio-dead was inspired by my love for postapocalyptic cinema, especially the films made by the Italians in the early 1980s,” Hadden says.

Bio-Dead Looking to Spread Some Bio-Terror
Bio-terrorism takes on a whole new meaning in Bio-Dead, a new indie sci-fi horror flick from writer director Stephen J. Hadden about the horror that awaits a hazmat team looking for survivors following a viral holocaust.

"Welcome to The Zone”. A 4,061 square mile contaminated wasteland. Tomb for twelve million infected corpses. And home to an evil the likes of which mankind has never encountered.

While searching for disaster survivors, a hazmat team discovers a mysterious building located deep within “The Zone”. At first the enormous structure appears to be uninhabited… but soon the rescue workers realize that they are not alone. As the team members begin to experience terrifying hallucinations, a vicious predator stalks the men through the maze-like halls.

Trapped inside the compound with no escape, the team is forced to fight for their lives against the ghoulish attacker… and each other."

Full synopsis and website update for indie Pa flick Bio-dead
Last week we brought you the first trailer for Stephen J. Hadden's upcoming Pa film Bio-Dead and, while we loved the feel of the film, we knew virtually nothing about the film's plot. Since then, we've been in touch with Hadden who let us know that he's completely revamped the film's official website with images bios and a whole bunch of behind the scenes pics. Here's what it's about:

Bio-terrorism ends the world in Stephen J. Hadden's Bio-dead
At first glance Stephen J. Hadden's upcoming Bio-Dead might look like your everyday run-of-the-mill indie plague-thriller but there's something lingering beneath the surface of the film's new trailer that makes me wonder if there isn't more going on that demands attention.

For on thing, the music is a dead ringer for any number of classic John Carpenter soundtracks and evokes memories of great genre flicks from the 80s. There is also some fantastic claustrophobic photography at work as well as some intense camera work.

12 Million fatalities in "The Zone." The first to die were the lucky ones...

As you can see, we don't know much about the film's plot just that it sounds creepy as all hell. Check out the trailer after the break and let's all hope we hear more about Bio-Dead soon.
