Best story ever - couldn't believe it
hal-764628 December 2020
I cried multiple times, the story keeps building. Pieces together so many voices to tell the narrative of a true hero, a role model. These grown men loved their coach and still do all these years later. An underdog story and much more.

Saw this at the LA International Film Festival.

ABSOLUTELY INSPIRING & A MUST SEE!!!

I had the great pleasure of watching this beautiful and inspiring true story about coach Louis Mulkey and his basketball players from Summerville High School who go against all odds to win the South Carolina Championship. Coach Louis style of coaching and words of encouragement to his players are like none before him. Each moment in the film you feel the power of something special and unique that sends electrifying goosebumps throughout your body as you watch the story unfold. I totally recommend this film for anyone that believes you can win against all odds and for those who just need a little push to get back on there feet. I guarantee that you will walk away from this film, uplifted and ready to overcome anything!

Makes you want to be a better person

I've lived in the general region that the film takes place for about 20 years. Occasionally the news recounts events in your local area that have a major impact on people's lives, but you remain only peripherally aware of the details and magnitude.

Living in the south, I've often felt that a lot of progress has been made with regard to racial issues but still seen evidence that there is further to go. The story demonstrates how powerful a positive impact one person can make when they reject the status quo and move forward. Highly inspiring.

It connected...
zeitlinkim14 December 2020
It was SO human, so authentic. It showed how the white coach went beyond racial lines...and so did the players...to the point they were scant, or none. It showed the student behind what we saw on the surface. It showed the depth of emotion that the coach inspired-tears, but also happiness, and uplifted. It showed the coach and the players are SUCCESSFUL. It showed a man who made his own way as a coach and a firefighter. It showed mistakes of some students, brought on by limited experience and family challenges, did not define the person. It showed there are no "stupid" students or "stupid" questions....what motivation did for many, and what the dyslexia diagnosis meant. It showed the quirky, fascinating end-but that was because the team was PREPARED. Pasteur: "Chance favors the prepared mind". Or prepared team.

It documentary reflected enormous effort of the film and the students, both skillfully interwoven. Bottom line: It WORKED.
