Eric Stanze is someone that I have known for some time now, maybe almost a decade. He has always been someone I have looked up to when it comes to independent filmmaking. The Scare Game, The Fine Art and Savage Harvest were the first truly independent films I rented on VHS. Stanze’s films introduced me to the world of B-Movie.com which was run by Salt City Home Video, a company that is still in business today under Sub Rosa Studios, which left quite an impression with me in my formative teenage years as a budding horror film fiend.
In this day & age, independent genre films seem to be getting more buzz than what you see at the mulitplex. This is good news for Eric as he has worked very hard for his art and the time is now for him to benefit from it. This is just my...

Without a doubt, independent filmmaker Eric Stanze is one of the more seasoned and exciting storytellers working today. Ever since opening the doors on his production company Wicked Pixel Cinema in 1995, he's produced 20 different projects, and out of those he's directed 9 as well as lending a hand in other capacities for the rest.
Stanze also recently served as the Second Unit Director on Jim Mickle's Stake Land (which is how we found out about this indie superstar), and his latest directorial effort - Ratline (review here) - recently made its way to DVD this past September and since its release has landed on many Top 10 lists of 2011 as well as nabbing a few awards during the 2011 PollyGrind Film Festival.

The 2011 PollyGrind Film Festival recently wrapped up in Las Vegas, and the madman behind the scenes, Chad Clinton Freeman, checked in with Dread Central to share with us exclusively the winners of this year's fest.
Reveling in everything from arthouse to grindhouse to everything in between, PollyGrind has quickly made a name for itself as one of the up-and-coming premiere genre fests out there due to the success of each year of programming. This year's big winners (and flicks that will no doubt go on to find audiences soon) include the highly controversial The Bunny Game, The Super, Dear God No!, The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol and Ratline.
"I was very happy with the quantity of quality films and the diversity I was able to program this year," Freeman said. "Being able to world premiere films like Mondo Sexxxx: The Terry Kobrah Story and The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol,...

Eric Stanze must be one of the hardest working fellas in indie horror films today, having produced, since 1994, twenty titles through his company Wicked Pixel Cinema. An even more impressive number considering Stanze directed nine of these titles, and lent his writing, editing, acting, and cinematography to numerous others (while still finding time in recent years to blog for FEARnet). His latest work is Ratline, a stark thriller that couples the truly-life story of the Nazis' obsession with occult ritual to that of two women on the lam after killing their boss. (The film is now available on DVD from WickedPixel.com and on Amazon Instant Video.) I caught up with Stanze recently and asked him just how much of Ratline was based in...

The 2nd annual PollyGrind assaults Las Vegas during an epic length film festival that runs Oct. 8-17 at Theatre 7 with enough sleaze and violence to make Sin City residents feel right at home.
Actually, the fest does open up on the 7th with a concert at Neon Venus with local acts like Monster Zero, Creepersin and many more.
However, the film portion of the fest opens on the 8th with Stuart Simpson‘s acclaimed Australian gorefest El Monstro Del Mar!, one of the best Russ Meyer/Roger Corman mash-ups with a Down Under twist. Read the Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film review of this gem here.
Other Bad Lit favorites in the lineup are Drew Bolduc and Dan Nelson‘s The Taint, which is still completely grossing out audiences on the festival circuit, and The Uh-Oh Show, the splatter-filled horror comedy by the Godfather of Gore himself Herschell Gordon Lewis.

We recently told you about the upcoming PollyGrind Film Festival, one of the premiere grindhouse film festivals, that's set to celebrate all-things B-Movie style in Las Vegas this October. The madman behind the festival, Chad Clinton Freeman, announced today this year's PollyGrind line-up and it looks pretty sweet!
And not only is PollyGrind celebrating films, the fest is also celebrating several indie music acts slated to perform during the fest, a Zombiepalooza celebration and a whole lot more! Read on for all the details for the Second Annual PollyGrind Film Festival!
From the Press Release:
It's been called "the key festival for indie cult filmmakers to land distribution deals." Its founder and programmer has been called the "new champion of unabashed B-movie sleaze." Those praises might seem a bit outlandish, but with the official announcement of the PollyGrind Film Festival's schedule, it's easy to see where they come from.

Drug dealers, serial killers, Satan worshippers and immortal Nazis are some of the ingredients of the bloody stew that is Ratline, a tough, well-made shocker from St. Louis-based regional filmmaker Eric Stanze. Ratline is not a “boo!” sort of horror flick. It’s not about stalkers in dark corners or monsters under the bed. It’s about the evil that men often do, if not necessarily in real life, then certainly within really nasty horror flicks like Ratline. It;s an angry, humorless film filled with sex and gore, but writer/director Stanze is not one of these independent filmmakers who;s simply in love with his own nihilism. He’s working from his own smart script that attempts to say something important about the murderous energies at loose in society. Ratline is not without flaws, but it’s an aggressively low budget piece of horror weirdness that defies expectations and is remarkably accomplished.
