- Laura has felt oppressed by a violent spirit ever since she heard a chilling EVP in the fall of 2007. The 26-year-old claims she's been beaten, choked, even forcibly submerged in the bathtub of her parents' Quincy, Illinois home. But it's photos that offer the most startling evidence: deep scratch marks appearing on Laura's skin that spell out profanities.—Anonymous
- "I Am Six" originally aired on October 27, 2008 on A&E channel. The episode starts out with Ryan explaining to the audience that four years ago he got involved in his first demonic case in which he assisted multiple priests, a politician and his family. He was told that because he helped the family with this case the demonic would remember his face. Ryan states that even four years later he still remembers the warning and has had many strange encounters that prove demonic forces seem to know and follow him. He tells the audience that "tonight we enter the age old battle between heaven and hell."
During the case briefing we see the team enter what looks to be a Catholic church sanctuary. He then begins to explain the case to them which involves a young woman named Laura who has allegedly been beaten and drowned by an unseen force. Words have materialized on her stomach in front of witnesses almost as if burned into her flesh. Sergey asks Ryan why he has asked them to meet him at this church, Ryan responds with "Well, I think that when we come talking about a potentially demonic case, I wan to be able to talk about some sort of protection, so thats why I wanted us to be on Holy Ground." Ryan then explains how distressed this family is, and how this is probably the Team's biggest cry for help. Also, how he spoke to Laura's mother and how exhausted she is and also how close she is to giving up. Ryan says that Laura's mother believes this entity is going to kill her daughter and then stresses that their role in the situation is to prevent that from happening.
On arrival at the house, Laura herself answers the door and introductions are made and they begin the House Tour. While they are standing in the living room Laura's mother, Barbara explains to the team that on the first night Laura saw the 'black shadow' that Laura felt someone "punch her in the chest." They had to take Laura to the emergency room that night because she wasn't breathing correctly and it took them an hour to get her breathing again. Laura then tells the team that usually after the attacks she feels like she has been burned, at which point Barbara begins talking about the mysterious materializing messages on Laura's body. Ryan then asks Laura if she has any writing on her now to which she replies "Not right now, thank God." Barbara tells the team that the last incedent with the writing occured about ten days prior and that it was a Pentogram scratched onto her leg.
Barbara then shows them the Laundry Chute and tells the Team that Laura got 'sucked' down it. Ryan then asks how that happened and Laura tells him that she noticed finger marks (almost like claw marks) so she was sitting there looking at them and then she felt something grab hold of her and pull her down. She felt as though she was going to be torn apart. They then travel to the base of the Laundry Chute where Barbara explains that Laura couldn't have gotten in there by herself and couldn't have gotten out by herself.
The Team then goes to Laura's bedroom. Ryan asks Laura when the last time she physically slept in this room was and Laura tells him that she hasn't been feeling well the past few days so she's had to stick it out and sleep in her room but that it "has not been a good experience." Laura explains to him that a few nights prior she heard something behind her that souded like a strange giggle followed by a hissing sound and it startled her. Barabra then says that they have heard the hissing sound coming from her closet and that they know someone is in there because it is icy cold. Laura admits to Ryan that she doesn't like that place [the closet].
The next room they go to is Laura's bathroom. Barbara mentions how Laura has been nearly drowned twice in it. She says she heard banging on the side of the tub so she came up to see what was going on and when she opened the door Laura was literally fighting to get out of the water. When Barbara tried to pull Laura out she tells Ryan that whatever they were fighting against was so strong that it would pull Laura even further down as Barabra tried harder. Laura then admits it felt like she was being raped.
During the Client Interview Laura says that in October of 2007 something evil came into her home and all hell broke loose and after so many bad things she had to get help because it was getting to tough an so tiring. Ryan asks Laura if she can recall anything she did that could've "opened up a window to the negative stuff that has come in," and Laura admits that when she first noticed weird things going on in their house she decided to do an EVP (electronic voice phenomena) session and ended up hearing a female voice responding to her questions. Laura then suddenly becomes extremely nautious and Ryan walks her to the bathroom so she can throw up. While talking to Barbara Ryan points out that he feels a very exhausted energy coming from everyone in the home and Barbara agrees with him telling him it's the strain that they have all been under. She tells him that they have to be on alert all the time, that sleep is often interrupted and that Laura doesn't even sleep at all anymore because she is terrified. Ryan then asks what she wants the Team to do there and Barabara tell him that they need to be relieved from whatever evil is in their home because they can not live like this any longer. Ryan then has an interview with Laura's Father, Bob. He tells Ryan that he doesn't want to have to look at his daughter and tell her that "this is as good as it's going to get," and that Laura is a caring individual with a wonderful sense of humor and she doesn't deserve what is happening to her.
The Team then reviews evidence and Sergey starts out by talking about the Laundry Chute. Heather says that she tried to get into it but she couldn't even fit her leg in because it was way too small. Sergey confirms that if the family's story is legit then someone had to pull her or push her with extreme force. Ryan then asks about the photos with the strange words engraved on Laura's body. Eilfie tells Ryan that upon viewing the photos they came to the conclusion that it would be impossible for Laura to contort her arm in such a way that she would be able to write such clear words on certain parts of her body.
Chip Coffey arrives and follows Ryan into the house immediately saying that there is already things being yelled in his head. When Ryan asks for the exact words Chip tells him the voice is yelling "Get rid of all this fu**ing religious stuff." Chip says that the entity has a foul mouth and he/she wants this family out of "it's" house. When they go into the basement Ryan confirms Chip's assumption that there is a female (Laura) involved in the case and that the entity is laughing at what it's doing to her saying "I'll kill the b**ch." When Chip enters the bathroom where Laura was allegedly almost drowned he tells Ryan he doesn't like it and then confirming that Laura may have been sexually assaulted by this entity in the bathtub, confirming her earlier statement. When Chip enters Laura's bedroom he drawn to the closet saying that there is either something in it or behind it. Ryan investigates revealing that words are carved into the closet floorboards and they are not written in English. Ryan asks Eilfie to take a look at the carvings and she confirms it to be written in German and she writes the words down on a piece of paper. Heather then calls a German translator and reads him the words, he tells her it literally translates to "Cry, cry, my house." However he tells her that the interperatation is that whoever sent this message is wanting the house to cleanse itself somehow and to let the pain out.
Heather then visits the previous owner of the house, an elderly woman name Ginnie and she says she lived in the house for 18 years. Heather asks Ginnie if in her time there she ever experienced anything odd or unusual and Ginnie says that she has not. When Heather asks Ginnie if anyone has ever dies in the house Ginnie says yes, the previous owner's daughters, Mena and her sister Ann, however they bleep out the last name for some reason.
Heather reports back to the team and upon further investigation the team confirms the previous owner's names although it is still bleeped out, and Ryan confirms that they were from Germany. Ryan admits that it seems like they have the spirit of a former resident in the home, but due to the severity of the activity he feels it is a trick and that there is a darker demonic force at hand. Ryan calls Father Andrew Calder, an Episcopal Priest, to help, telling him he feels it's very necessary that he comes. When Father Andy arrives Ryan gives him the background, and tells him how Laura was fine when they arrived but became ill when in the interview. Father Andy says he wants to do a walkthrough of the house, during which he admits that he feels the entity is physically testing his perimeter.
Dead Time. The Team asks Laura's parents to leave the house. Chip, Father Andy, and Ryan remain in Laura's bedroom, Sergey and Josh in the basement, and Heather will be on tech duty and Eilfie is with Laura monitoring her condition. Sergey asks the entity to make itself known by a knocking sound, shortly after Father, Chip and Ryan hear a knock coming from upstairs. Ryan asks the entity to make the sound again, it does. While Ryan and Father Calder are talking to entity Chip gasps and tells them that the doorknob had just turned. Ryan, upon investigating the door, hears breathing and demands that the entity make itself known. Father Andy tells Ryan he doesn't think they'll get much more response upstairs and he says that he feels something coming from the basement where Sergey and Josh are.
We are seeing Josh and Sergey now, and Josh asks Serge what's beneath the window directly across from them Serge asks Josh if he sees something but before he has time to answer everyone in the house hears a scream simultaneously. We then see Eilfie comforting Laura in the bathroom so we can assume it was her that was screaming, she tells Eilfie that she is certain she saw something in the bathroom near the tub. Eilfie demands Ryan come investigate furhter. Laura is doubled over in the bathroom, her back exposed and six lines are clearly visible on her back. We can hear Laura in an almost desperate tone say "Oh God, no," and when Ryan asks her what she means she suddenly stops crying and falls completely silent. Chip calls out to her asking if she is there with them, Laura's voice responds "I Am Six."
Barbara tells Ryan that the entity wrote "I am six," on her once. Laura cries that there is no safe place for her in the house. Ryan calls Lorraine Warren and tells her about Laura and what he thinks is going on, and tells her about how there were six marks on Laura's back and also how this entity has written "I am Six" on Laura's body. Lorraine tells Ryan that it is Legion which biblically speaking means "I am many." Lorraine tells Ryan of the Biblical story of Jesus casting out the demon from the possesed man and the demon saying "I am Legion, for I am many." Ryan conducts a secondary interview with Laura's parents who have new information for the Team that they did not share before. Bob tells Ryan that one night he heard Laura fall and when he went to check on her her lips and her skin were very pale. Barbara finishes the story, telling Ryan that they could not get her to come to, so she doused her with Holy Water and tells Ryan that Laura hissed at them, a low long hiss. When Ryan asks how Laura looked during this even Barbara stresses that she doesn't think it was Laura, her teeth were visible in a snarl and it just didn't seem like her at all. Ryan then goes and talks to Laura's psychologist, asking him is he thinks Laura has schizophrenia or some other similar disorder. He tells him that Laura is in no way schizophrenic and that although having a disassociative disorder or delusions is always a possibility, he doesn't seem to believe that Laura has any disorder. Ryan then asks if he believes a person can be possesed, he says that he believes that a person can believe they are possesed but he admits the activity Laura describes is more severe than he has ever heard of and it makes it hard to not believe her and that if what they are doing doesn't work he doesn't think Laura will survive. Ryan agrees with him.
Chip then meets with Laura's parents and asks them if they believe that there is extreme opression and possesion going on in their house, they both respond with yes although Chip reads that Bob is struggling with the answer. Bob admits that he can see the opression aspect of the situation but he is having a hard time dealing with the possesion aspect. When Ryan, Chip and Father Calder are discussing what needs to be done, Father Andy says he thinks this situation might require exorcism but now is not the time to approach it, he does wish to speak to Laura though. Father Andy and Ryan ask Laura if she can remember anything about her "episodes" but all she can remember is waking up, soaked with Holy Water and being terrified because she had no idea as to why. Ryan asks Laura what she wants the outcome of the to be and she says that she wants every corner of the house to be blessed, Father Andy stops her and tells her that this has nothing to do with the house, implying that it is her. She gets very emotional and asks them what it means, and Father Andy tells her that the entity will not leave her of it's own accord and that an exorcism is basically inevitable. Laura is obviously frightened and Ryan tells her that it is ultimately up to her, although Father Andy does say that the longer the entity is with her, the stronger it will become and the harder it will be to remove. Laura asks for her parents and all of them are visibly scared, Laura is absolutely terrified.
Ryan admits to Eilfie that he doesn't know if he's done the right thing. Meanwhile, Sergey and Heather discuss it and decide that the family doesn't really have any other choice. Father Andy talks to Laura's parents and tells them that he will not conduct the exorcism at night because he wont attack the demons on their grounds. He stresses to them that his main concern is the safety of Laura and if there is any sign of physical distress he will stop. The next day Ryan turns to his Faith and tells the audience that all he and the Team want is to see this family through the situation.
The Exorcism. Father Calder is setting up for Laura's exorcism and tells Ryan she needs to be in a position where people can get to her easily in case she needs to be restrained or for medical purposes. Ryan explains that even in modern cases, exorcisms can be physically harmful or even life threatening so they have an EMT on standby that will be present throughout the entire ritual. Father Calder starts the exorcism with a prayer, he then commands the demon in Jesus' name to show it's true presence. Immediately we see that the weather outside has blackened, the wind is picking up and presumably there is a thunder storm coming in. Father Andy asks Laura is she is there, and all we hear is a low growl, we are no longer talking to her. Laura eerily stares at Father Calder, and Chip comments that Laura is gone now. Father Calder commands the demon to make it's name, and the day and hour of it's damnation, Laura begins to outline a pentagram with her hand in the air. Father Calder begins to expell the demon from Laura he holds a cross near her head and she is visibly disturbed by it. All we hear from her are growls and gurgling noises. Suddenly Laura begins to speak, she says "I'm sorry I hurt her," and when Father Calder tells it to leave Laura's body again, she says "Somebody killed me." Father Calder demands the entity reveal it's name, Laura utters the name PIPER. Chip believes it is lying and tells Ryan that they are not done yet. Ryan immediately makes an emergency phone call to Lorraine Warren and explains that the demon has taken on a new personality, that of a little girl apparently names Piper. Meanwhile Father Calder is asking "Piper" why she flinches at the cross of the Lord and asks her if it hurts. "Piper" tells him that she is scared. Ryan is still talking to Lorraine and he tells her he is having trouble believing that a little girl could have done all this. Lorraine responds telling him demons are liars and they will do anything they can to outwit you. She tells Ryan that she believes the real demon is hiding behind a facade of an innocent little girl. It is apparent inside that Father Calder doesn't believe the lie, he is holding Laura's face and telling the demon to burn in hell ten-fold for lying. Ryan asks Lorraine how to make the demon stop lying, Lorraine tells him it could take all night.
It is now 11pm and Father Calder is trying to expell the demon again. We hear Laura's voice tell him "I can do whatever I want," to which he commands the demon to leave her once more. Laura shoves his arm away and he asks that someone restrain her. The demon asks Father Calder why it would leave Laura when she is so easy. Father Calder tells it to shut up and continues to command it to leave her body in the name of Jesus to which the demon replies "Ah, screw him." Father Calder puts a cross against her forehead and tells the demon to leave again, this time Laura's head tilts back and we hear small gasps for air. Chip raises alarm because he doesn't think she is breathing. The demon says "he is six" and when Father Calder demands his real name the deam replies "I am six, pick any one you like. I am many names."
Finally everyone starts chanting a Christian passage and Laura begins to come back. She screams, and it seems like the demon is gone. She responds to her name and when Father Calder asks if she feels it anymore she says no. Chip decided to walk the house again to make sure the demon is gone Ryan comes with him. Chip says he can't be for certain if the demon is gone forever, but it definitely left because he can not feel it. Ryan looks satisfied.
The next night Chip asks the family how they feel now, and Laura admits that she can't be sure that it wasn't her fault. Chip tells her that he really doesn't think it was, and that she needs to let go of that blame. Ryan asks the family how they slept and Laura tells him that for the first time in months she felt nothing in her room and nothing in her closet. Laura thanks him for saving her life, and her family. Bob and Barbara also thank him and Chip tells them to stay strong. Laura, being able to go into her closet and get some art work, gives Chip and Ryan some of her art to take with them. Chip and Ryan discuss the case afterwords and Ryan asks him why demons attack innocent people, Chip says that they shouldn't beat themselves up asking why. Ryan then tells the audience that although he hopes Laura's battle is over he has seen them go on for years. He says he knows that this will not be his last encounter with demonic forces, and as long as they prey on the innocent he will be there to do his best to help.
At the end of the show, text appears on the screen stating that two weeks after PRS left Laura suffered a violent reaction to Holy Water and had to be admitted into the hospital and that he battle continues.
