Excellent Warning: Spoilers
An excellent book-to-film adaptation. The film expands on the book's themes in apt ways while continuing to be loyal to the original work. I have rarely seen anything like this before. Now that the movie has been released, the book feels even more complete than it was before. I was worried how will the movie work with the book's extraordinary narrator, but the worry ended up being for vain.

The actor choices have to be praised too. The actors are excellent on conveying emotions, and special mentions must be given to Laura Birn, Anni Iikkanen and Arttu Kapulainen. Laura Birn skillfully reflects the characteristics of the younger Mariia to the older Mariia, while believably describing what it looks like to have difficulties moving forward in life and letting go of the past. Anni Iikkanen, on the other hand, is exceling in interpreting Mimmi's "quirky" personality. Mimmi's father doesn't have much screentime, but Arttu Kapulainen absolutely nails it with acting a father that cares about his daughter, but doesn't know what to do with her. The scenes between Mimmi and her father are one of the most heartbreaking ones in the movie.

As the reader of the book it's inevitable to anticipate a tragic ending, but there's no way to avoid tears even with the major spoilers. The emotions in this film are palpable thanks to the wonderful actors, manuscript and the character building. In sum, Light Light Light is an excellent movie that can easily be returned to many times even though it will hit the watcher each time with its brimming emotions. Behind the sorrowfulness there's luckily some hope too.

Warning: Spoilers
A tragic tale of a teenage romance, but toughing and a good watch that'll leave you thinking about it for a bit longer. Everyone at the theatre seemed to be crying, and so was I.

I don't really have much else to say about it, but since imbd requires me to write more I'll just spoil the movie. Mimi dies of a suicide, mostly because of her terrible family; an absent dad, a dead mother and an aunt who seems to be bitter she has to look after Mimi. Maria is so devastated of Mimi's death that she turns to alcohol. Maria's mother also has cancer, twice. Sad movie. Glad they're making more finnish lesbian movies though, would love to get more, esp. Happier ones!
