This Is NOT Funny. It IS Smart.
payasoingenioso31 December 2020
These women came together early in the year by Haddish's hair to give satire on this year as well as MAGA.

You may notice many of the negative reviews are from humans that are threatened by the comedians of African descent as well as the politic commentary by the other comedians.

This is NOT funny, but it is a 45 minute intelligent commentary on 2020.

The Sarah Silverman segment sums it up well.

The surprise guest at the end is also dope and appropriate.

Take the "hate reviews" with a grain of salt
jjburchard1 January 2021
Comedy is subjective, so pretending your opinion will matter to anybody else when it comes to that is kind of silly (friendly reminder that Larry The Cable Guy is worth over $100 million). Personally, I thought there was some great material, and some slightly more obvious stuff that just kind of fell flat with me.

In terms of raw talent, great lineup of comedians/actors and it's really technically impressive what they were able to pull off (which you get to see at the end of the film). Unfortunately, I think the fact that all of it was ultimately digital kind of adds to some of the downsides of the whole piece. In a lot of ways they weren't able to play off each other in a normal context, which really is such a huge part of comedy. I don't think they needed to consistently have reaction shots from the other actors when one was giving a eulogy. That took me out of it a bit. And some of the acting did kind of come across as over-the-top (again, likely because of the circumstances).

Ultimately, I thought it was a clever way to put together a comedy special for this year and a great opportunity to shine a light on some really talented folks. And anybody who is surprised by some of the views expressed in these bits probably doesn't follow the comedians themselves.

That said, Amazon tends to be one of the first places people go to "hate review" something if it's perceived as political or trying to "even the scales" by giving representation to underrepresented groups (i.e. women and women of color in comedy). So ignore those, watch the first few bits, and decide if the humor fits your mood/style. If it does, then it's a nice little end to the year.

Summarized 2020 up nicely !
yolandaparkies7 January 2021
I don't think that this should be labelled comedy, maybe they didn this because the women arecomedians and the setting was kind of like a roast. I think it was really good because it was so true!!!! Best parts were the 2020 goodbyes from Sarah Silverman to MAGA 🙌, Ziwe Fumudoh to Beige Bandaids 🙌 and finally Rachel Brosnahan on Pants ! Also loved Natalie Leggero's points on being a mom during lockdown 😂

This is not for me. I didn't find it funny, and didn't laugh once.

Some funny bits.
jimenamenafate1 January 2021
I laughed a few times throughout but absolutely hated the "audience" reactions. Sometimes they didn't even make sense, it felt like they recorded a bunch of them at once and edited them in randomly after each sentence spoken. Annoying!

When Sarah Silverman is on all the commercials for this garbage, you know it probably sucks, and it did. Please retire.

This is bad. Don't waste your time!
deedrefuhrman23 December 2021
Truly awful. I'm shocked they had the nerve to do it again for 2021. Who is their target audience? It's just Not funny. Don't waste your time, give this a hard pass!

A perfectly fitting end-of-2020 comedy event!!
zbossvideo30 December 2020
I disagree with the reviews so far - I think this special was in good taste and that, despite the seriousness of the things we've lost this year - it is helpful to have a sense of humor and smile!!

It's a lot of my favorites - I was really looking forward to Tiffany Haddish, Natasha Leggero, Sarah Silverman, and Rachel Brosnahan from the beginning - but really everyone was great! They all had very specific topics to riff off - and a short amount of time to make their points and deliver the laughs - and they all nailed their segments - while adding to the overall theme and vibe of the special and generally poking fun at how crazy 2020 has been!

Having the comedians reacting to each other really adds - because I've seen some Zoom comedy shows this year where the fact that there was no audience laughing and feeling the jokes actually made it a lot harder to laugh on my end...

If it's a family with like adult kids - I guess you could say 18+ - everyone could enjoy this on New Year's Eve for example!! It delivers the point in half and hour and it's done! It's just fun!!

Comedically cathartic
siobhkanga31 December 2020
So many challenging issues covered after a year that tested us all in so many ways - just the comedic catharsis we need to let go of 2020 and get ready for the year ahead.

Why?

There were I couple of chuckles in there but mostly the "jokes" were terrible. Ugh. This is a perfect encapsulation of the year we had- bad.

I can take a joke, but this was not funny
michellenmc10 January 2021
I defended Tiffany Haddish when her show bombed in Atlanta and when Jaguar Wright; a prolific naysayer of the music industry brought doubt that her relationship with Common would survive after her 'me too'-oriented allegations about him/her boyfriend. I did the same thing for Leslie Jones drew harsh criticism in her role in the Ghostbusters remake which stung a little more than a little bit when it came from Dan Aykroyd, a member of the original cast and comedic royalty. I was torn on that one because Aykroyd and the rest of the cast were an absolute paradigm to my budding, adolescent sense of humor, just as were countless other comedians, most notably Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappell, Gild Radner (God Bless the dead); her husband, his friend, and other sisters of comedy, like Monique and Luenell, who even though I sang all of his songs growing up, made so much fun of Biz Markey, I cried real tears from laughing so hard because it was relatable; jokes I would expect to hear at a roast for him and see him crying tears too. However, this show didn't feel that way, from the first line to the last, my heart sank deeper and deeper inside of myself, waiting for the next seemingly editorializing zinger would drop. I am used to being the baseline for unity, If not personally, generally speaking but I got to say, nothing is quite as disappointing after finding that you and/or who you are as a person, whether that be a single mother pregnant with "more children", or a "Bad mom" like Mika in the movie of the same name, or Police Officer now navigating unprecedented conditions, both at work, at home and in the public eye, are fodder for comedic relief within a celebratory, 'homecoming' context and to the accolades of an admiring viewership as well. I did not find this 'tongue and cheek' but 'tears on cheeks' and not in a good way. I would have been pleased to listen to Dave or good old Bernie Mack come back from the dead to handle this topic, putting 2020 to rest, or perhaps more appropriately to death. In the first few weeks of the George Floyd tragedy Dave Chappell spoke to everyone, as only he can, and shared in our collective sense of humor, raised up our sports and voices effortlessly and seamlessly; this, more than pales in comparison to that grace. Congratulations Tif looks like you roundly found your place.

Nearly bored to death by this one
pjgross30 December 2020
On paper this may look like a good idea. The result however is some very, very bad acting and simply nothing to laugh at. This thing is one extra reason to forget 2020 and move on tot 2021, it can only get better than this.

So bad
purplelioness10-105-75390230 December 2020
I was bored & looking for something funny. This was not it. I stared at the screen with a dumbfounded expression & I kept watching thinking it has to improve but it didn't. I didn't find it funny at all & never laughed not even once. Stupid & boring.

Make America Good
natattack101 January 2021
Funny, real, very tongue-in-cheek while also being brutally honest. Ignore the negative reviews that reek of racism and fragile masculinity. This is a good way to say "adiós" to 2020 and welcome in some of the few silver linings of this year into 2021.

If you are looking for something similar to Death to 2020, this definitely isn't it. After 10 minutes, I turned it off.

This was a lot of fun. Smart, witty, cute. Bad reviews are clearly political.
blackboxgroup1 January 2021
Seriously, there used to be a time when we could all take a joke or two. I know things have been tough, but you have to be able to laugh at stuff. Its only human.

Funny spirited show with a great team full of amazing energy. Watch the behind the scenes during credits to see how cleverly they made the film during Covid.

What this missed in its list of the yearly departed...
staceyallyn30 December 2020
The fact that most people are beyond bored and well into sick and tired territory with MORE politics in EVERYTHING. There's so much to relate on and laugh about - yes, even moreso in a Covid year - without reaching for the woke jokes and hate talk. Several of the topics covered were funny no matter what one's politics. But this lost me halfway through when it just HAD to keep going there. Political figures and celebrities of all stripes have always been comedic fair game, but it's so much better when it's not attack ad and sloganeering in style. We're all so weary of ALL the politics this year and looking for some escape. Unfortunately, not enough to be found here.

Let's leave THIS show in 2020!
Marta1231 January 2021
I could get past the first 10 minutes. I've seen Tiffany Haddish in movies but this, this -her routine regarding 2020-was so soulless, sleezy and coarse that I just couldn't get through more. It's a shame that they started with her because I'm sure some of the other people might have been ok, but I'll never know. It's January 1, 2021, and this show will stay where it started: in 2020.

Ring In the New Year with Some Laughs
SeriousJest1 January 2022
The 2020 special was funny, different, and apparently successful enough to inspire a 2021 special. Generally, the 2021 special is not as funny, although Yvonne Orji managed to carry it to being decent. These specials are a good way to prepare for the new year and catch some laughs.

Much Needed After a Year of Tragedy
lhhigby31 December 2020
I disagree with some of the previous reviews saying this was in bad taste. After an awful year, this was a bright spot that allows the viewer to exhale and remember we're all in this together.

How tone deaf can your programmers be????? With 334,000 US Covid-19 deaths to date, a comedy funeral format that begins with citing the death of casual sex in 2020 is just plain wrong. No. Can't do it.

Wrong TV rating NOT for anyone under 21
nanci-806-82041016 January 2021
I decided to watch it as the promo looks funny and it has one of my favorite actors in it Sarah Silverman, so I gave it a go. I am well over 21 and I found the language and content too vulgar for my age let alone young adults to watch. The TV rating is TV-14 which means this programs "contain material that parents or adult guardians may find unsuitable for children under the age of 14". At a minimum this show should be rated M. Which reads "intended to be viewed by mature, adult audiences and may be unsuitable for children under 17". After 10 minutes I turned it off and I am sorry I even watched it for 10 minutes. The FCC needs to change its rating system which is a discussion for another time.
