Tucked away in a nondescript complex in Santa Monica, California, is a one garage-doored building surrounded by palm trees. It’s easy to miss, with an entrance hidden far from public view on the rear side of its plain slab exterior — which is important given the exclusive clientele that come and go daily.
Inside is every high-end piece of workout equipment you can imagine — and some you can’t. Alongside standard dumbbells and cable systems are hyper specific devices like on-rails trucks for linebackers to push and mechanical booms for world-class sailors to wrestle.

Baltasar Kormákur’s Icelandic box office hit Touch marks the fifth time that the filmmaker has been chosen as the country’s representative in the International Feature Oscar category, but it also reps something of a departure for the multi-hyphenate who’s perhaps more associated outside of Iceland with action and adventure titles like 2 Guns and Everest.
A love story based on the bestselling novel by Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson, who co-wrote the script with Kormákur, Touch follows widower Kristofer (Egil Ólafsson), who, after receiving an early-stage dementia diagnosis at the outset of the pandemic, leaves behind his Reykjavik home hoping to solve the greatest mystery of his life. As a student in London five decades earlier, Kristofer had fallen in love with Miko, whose father owned the Japanese restaurant where they both worked. But at the height of their whirlwind affair, Miko abruptly vanished. As panic about the virus spreads around the world,...

It looks like the Battle Royale genre is in the midst of a nostalgia wave. Games like Apex Legends, Overwatch, and Fortnite are introducing throwback modes that will take players back to each game’s roots. However, there’s a key difference in how these games are approaching their throwback moments. While Apex and Overwatch are introducing these modes as limited-time events, Fortnite is bringing the Og mode as a permanent feature.

Back in July, it was announced that Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) was signing on to star in a survival thriller called Apex for the Netflix streaming service, with Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband) on board to direct the film from a screenplay by Jeremy Robbins, who earned writing credits on many episodes of the TV series The Purge (set in the world of the Blumhouse film franchise). Now, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Theron is being joined in the cast by Taron Egerton, whose credits include Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and Rocketman.
A genre movie that has been described as “Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs,” Apex will see Theron taking on the role of a rock climber and adrenaline junkie who finds out that nature isn’t the only dangerous element out to get her when she sets out on an expedition in the wild.

Taron Egerton has joined Charlize Theron in Apex, a thriller that Baltasar Kormákur is directing for Netflix.
Details are being kept deep in the woods but the script centers on a rock climber and adrenaline junkie, played by Theron, who finds out that nature isn’t the only dangerous element out to get her when she sets out on an expedition in the wild.
Egerton will play a psychopath stalking his human prey (Aka, Theron).
Jeremy Robbins wrote the script, which Netflix picked up as spec project, before bringing on board Theron and Kormákur (Everest, Adrift).
Theron is producing the feature along with Dawn Olmstead, Beth Kono and Aj Dix via their recently-launched Secret Menu banner. Other producers include Ian Bryce; and Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready.

Apex Legends has remained one of the most resilient live-service games on the market, but Respawn’s development team knows that sustaining a game of this nature isn’t easy. With new content and updates being a necessity, the game has now hit its five-year mark and is currently in its 23rd season.

But in an age of sequels, Respawn and EA have chosen different for Apex. For game director Steve Ferreira, creating an Apex Legends 2 has always been less of a goal and more of an “anti-vision.” Both Respawn and EA seem set on focusing on innovative, incremental updates rather than a full reboot.

Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends is the latest game to ban Linux support because of incompatibility issues with its anti-cheat. This is the same reason why Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 doesn’t support Linux and Linux-based Steam Decks. Running competitive games on Linux makes it extremely difficult for developers as these cheats are harder to detect.

In an official post, Electronic Arts has announced that it has blocked Linux Os access to Apex Legends, stating that “a small number of Apex players” will be impacted by this move. EA strongly believes that the openness of the Linux operating system makes things easier for hackers and cheaters. Since the studio is struggling to fight this problem, it has entirely cut access.

Valve’s latest video game, Deadlock has been in playtesting since 2023, and players with access can invite their friends using Steam’s playtesting functionality. The game has received numerous updates but finally, in the recent update, Valve addressed the growing problem of hackers by turning them into frogs when they’re caught.

This is an interesting way to deal with hackers but this is not the first time Valve decided to integrate this feature into their games. An ex-Valve employee recently revealed that the same concept was planned for Counter-Strike but instead of frog, hackers would’ve been turned into chicken.

In the world of first-person shooters, Valorant and Counter-Strike are two of the brightest names. Not only in casual gaming, these two games played a pivotal role in putting esports in the same bracket as other conventional sports. Except for the abilities of the agents in the Riot Games shooter, both titles are quite similar, such as movement mechanics, shooting, and gameplay.

Apex, the latest addition to the Thundercats franchise, just debuted with an unbelievably badass design. Dynamites Thundercats title debuted earlier this year to critical acclaim and record-busting sales, thanks in part to its ability to break new ground while simultaneously honoring what came before. Now, in the forthcoming Thundercats #8, Apex arrives, shrouded in mystery and looking mega cool at the same time.
The Thundercats were created by Tobin Wolf and premiered in 1985, and was accompanied by a toy line.
Thundercats editor Nate Cosby unveiled Declan Shalveys designs for Apex in a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Cosby prefaces the designs by declaring Apex an all-new character, but does not reveal anymore. Cosby gives shoutouts to Shalvey, calling him a maestro. Shalveys designs for Apex paint a foreboding picture, as a hood obscures his features. Apex carries an imposing staff, complete with a cat's head.

Counter Strike 2 struggles to live up to its legacy, especially when compared to such predecessors as Counter Strike 1.6. While the game has made strides in accessibility and visuals, longtime fans feel it lacks the core gameplay elements that made 1.6 iconic.
A number of issues have surfaced as many aspects of the original have been sidelined in favor of easing out the mechanics. Valve’s approach to Counter Strike 2 has shifted toward a more modern and commercially driven game. This has made the fans question why the game feels like a departure from its roots in favor of microtransactions and unwanted aesthetics over gameplay.

Apex Legend’s upcoming season Shockwave is set to switch things up with a new map, Akimbo weapons, and lots of balance changes. While there’s no new Legend to look forward to, this seasonal update hopes to bring major gameplay improvements.
The online shooter’s next season kicks off on August 6, and will also offer new players a chance to learn the game in better ways and have the chance to earn a Welcome Pass.
Reviving Teammates Will Work Differently Going Forward
The biggest feature that will set this season apart from the previous ones is how reviving teammates works. With Shockwave, players can now respawn without the use of respawn beacons or banners.

After intense backlash from the community on the controversial changes to Apex Legends Season 22 Battle Pass, Respawn Entertainment has decided to back down a bit and take a step in the right direction.
Back on July 8, the developer announced a new format for the Apex Legends battle pass which infuriated the community. Nevertheless, it seems that Respawn has listened to the roars of the crowd and is switching back to the original design.

Baltasar Kormákur was in a reflective mood at the Taormina Film Festival, where his romantic drama Touch had its Italian premiere this past week. The Icelandic filmmaker compared Touch to his first feature, 2000’s 101 Reykjavik. The former was “a black comedy about love,” while Touch is “a way more sincere approach to love and life,” he said.
Touch, which has just become the biggest film of the year in Iceland at $569,600, is based on Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson’s bestselling 2021 novel Snerting. It wouldn’t be surprising to see it become the Icelandic entry for the International Feature Oscar race this year — Kormákur already has repped his home country four times, making the shortlist with 2012’s The Deep.
The multi-hyphenate, who for years has worked across Iceland and Hollywood, told Deadline that he sparked to Touch’s source material immediately but only later realized he had a particular connection to the story.

Sony’s new multiplayer shooter Concord is having a rough time in its free beta weekends – and that’s gotta have people at Sony a little nervous. According to the stats, the numbers just aren’t there on PC.
At peak times on Steam, it barely scratched 3,000 players. And during the off hours, it dropped down to just over 500! For a new free game, those are some pretty weaksauce stats. It doesn’t sound much better on PlayStation either.
There could be a few reasons for this lukewarm response. For one, Concord is charging $40 while everything else in the genre is free-to-play. Plus the hero shooter market is totally saturated already with massive games like Apex, Overwatch, and Valorant.
It also seems like Concord might not be delivering anything all that new. The core gameplay is Ok, but it needs more than that to stand out these days. Some PlayStation...

There’s no doubt that since its release, Riot Games’ Valorant has quickly ascended the ranks among enthusiasts of competitive first-person hero shooters. The title’s free-to-play accessibility, a fun roster of characters, and exciting lore have helped cultivate a sizeable fanbase.

Charlize Theron is a one-woman wrecking crew when it comes to conquering challenges on the silver screen, and soon she could face one of her most formidable foes ever in Apex, a high-profile thriller destined to scale the Netflix charts. Theron is in final negotiations to lead Apex, a genre thriller, with Baltasar Kormákur negotiating to direct from a script by Jeremy Robbins. Plot details are scarce, though Deadline says Apex is like Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs, with the story following a rock climber who finds herself getting hunted in the wild. The title is a play on an apex being the top or highest part of something (like a cliff) and a particularly dangerous predator in the wild. The more you know!
In addition to her starring role, Theron will executive produce Apex alongside Dawn Olmstead, Beth Kono, and Aj Dix through their newly minted media outlet.

Netflix’s upcoming thriller Apex is being described as Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs, and Deadline reports this afternoon that Charlize Theron is now in final talks to star.
Baltasar Kormákur (Touch) is in final talks to direct the thriller.
Written by Jeremy Robbins (“The Purge” television series), the film “follows a rock climber who finds herself being hunted in the wild.”

Valorant‘s Deathmatch mode has become a hot topic of discussion among players, with many calling for a change to make the mode skill-based. A low-rank player expressed frustration over facing Radiant-level opponents in Deathmatch. This disparity makes it nearly impossible for lower-ranked players to warm up effectively.
Unlike Call of Duty where fans are often against Sbmm, Valorant players argue that the current system isn’t fair. Players think that having Smbb would allow for a more effective warm-up routine tailored to individual skill levels.

Deathmatch is designed to be a quick, free-for-all mode where players can warm up before competitive matches. It offers a fast-paced environment with random respawns and no ability usage. However, this randomness can be a double-edged sword.

There’s no doubt that Apex Legends stands as one of the faces of the battle royale genre. The game debuted way back in 2019 and featured quite a rich lore, and fast-paced combat helped it gather a massive player base.
Over the years, EA has implemented some controversial changes to the game, which haven’t been received very well recently by the community. However, the recent changes to the game’s Battle Pass system have shot up community outrage and led to review bombing on Steam. Unlike the Helldivers 2 Psn controversy, it seems like EA doesn’t really care.

The idea of Battle Passes was appealing to many at first, but it has inevitably become more than just a progression system that rewards the player for playing the game more. Used by many multiplayer titles such as Apex Legends, the feature is now unfortunately just a money-making scapegoat.
Starting with the upcoming Season 22, the game’s Battle Pass will witness an overhaul no player in the community ever asked for, bringing a change for the worse while being advertised as something else.

As interest in racing movies has reached sky-high levels, Brad Pitt is ready to get behind the wheel in the Formula 1 thrill ride, F1. The latest film from Top Gun: Maverick filmmaker, Joseph Kosinski entered development in May 2023, effectively promising to do for F1 racing what Top Gun: Maverick did for Air Force flying. In July 2023, ESPN 1 reported that the film would be going by the title of Apex, that story turned out to be false, and instead, the movie was given a much simpler title.

Yet another title, Supervive, which is a work in progress, is going to test its luck by challenging mainstream Battle Royale games such as Fortnite and Pubg. While the trend of Battle Royale games might have been subdued in recent years, many gaming studios are still working on titles that could make their name in this oversaturated genre.
Interestingly, the game is being developed by ex-devs from Valorant, League of Legends, Overwatch, and Apex Legends, which is reflected in the game as it seems like a mixture of all at first glance.

Previously known as Project Loki, Supervive feels very much like a League of Legends game that is taking place in Battle Royale mode. The game comprises many elements of a Moba, like picking up a character with abilities that will be your fighter in the match.

Starring Brad Pitt, Joseph Kosinski’s expensive-sounding Formula 1 movie is out in June 2025 – though it still doesn’t have a title…
The long-delayed and purportedly expensive Formula 1 movie, director Joseph Kosinski’s follow-up to Top Gun: Maverick, finally has a release date. It’ll be out in US cinemas – on IMAX screens – on the 27th June 2025. A UK release date will no doubt hover around a similar slot.
It’s a sign that the finish line is in sight for the complicated racing drama, which began filming at last year’s Silverstone British Grand Prix race but was forced to shut down as the Hollywood strikes began. As producer Jerry Bruckheimer told us last month, the delays meant that, while its mainline cast – which includes Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon and Javier Bardem – were unable to work, Kosinski and his team were able to carry on filming racing sequences during the interim.

Battle Royale is a genre where there is always a new game that is trying to make its name. Filled to the brim with big-name titles, many games from relatively smaller dev studios fail to break through despite showing great potential. However, every so often, a game like Naraka: Bladepoint manages to catch the eye of gamers and stand apart from other battle royale titles.
Despite facing tough challenges from games such as Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, and Fortnite, Naraka: Bladepoint has carved out a niche following. Furthermore, unlike Warzone or Apex, where playing as a trio mainly boils down to skills, players can be in a disadvantageous situation in Naraka: Bladepoint if they don’t plan ahead.
Naraka: Bladepoint is Different from Other Battle Royale Games Naraka: Bladepoint‘s trios mode requires strategizing.

Valorant, the popular tactical shooter from Riot Games, is finally making its way to consoles, with a release slated for later this year. While this is exciting news for console gamers, there’s a catch for PS5 users: the game won’t support gyro aiming on PS5.
This decision stems from a need to maintain parity with the Xbox Series X|S version, which lacks the capability to manage this feature effectively, according to the developers.
Why Gyro Aiming is a Big Deal for Valorant
Valorant‘s console versions were announced at the 2024 Summer Game Fest.
Gyro aiming uses the gyroscope in a controller to allow players to aim by physically moving the controller, which can offer more precise and intuitive control once it has been mastered. It’s a feature that’s been well-received in games like Fortnite and Splatoon 2, providing console players with an aiming experience that gets...

Strikes and delays have reportedly seen the budget on Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski’s Formula 1 movie race past the $300m mark.
If a new report’s accurate, then Apple Studios is in the process of spending a quite sinister amount of money on its forthcoming Formula 1 movie.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, the film doesn’t currently have an official title – the word was that it was called Apex, also the name of a 2021 Bruce Willis action flick, though that hasn’t been confirmed so far.
What it does have, though, is an absolutely enormous budget; according to Puck, as picked up by World of Reel, the spend so far has breached the $300m mark.
The distribution rights to the movie were snapped up by Apple in 2022, with the company no doubt attracted by the pairing of producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Kosinski, who’d...
