Having just tonight finished the book, I was very very happy to be able to find the mini series available. With the book very fresh in my mind, I settled down to watch episode one with high hopes. Which were pretty much fulfilled.
However, someone should've reminded the writer (whom I think is a wonderful writer and I'm a big fan of his books and TV series) or have reminded the producer, or have reminded someone, anyone, associated with this miniseries, that the character of Joy is white with blond hair! I certainly hope the remainder of the series is not filled with any more politically-correct mumbo-jumbo that seems to be jammed down our throat at every opportunity lately.

A good start to this, full of imagination and a whodunnit within a whodunnit to keep you intrigued. A little bit different but a lot the same.
Some familiar faces here but no real big star so the story remains the centrepiece.
It is whimsical without much drama but not a great deal of humour either.
Hopefully, it will remain strong enough to keep the audience inside.

Engaging start, intrigued to follow both plotlines. This is well written (Anthony Horowitz rarely fails) with good pacing and the delightful Lesley Manville leads-the-line with aplomb. Eagerly anticipating episode 2 which will, no-doubt, build upon this excellent platform.
Two worlds collide, and so begins the story of the magpie murders, a murder mystery, within another murder mystery.
Not many writers understand whodunnits like Anthony Horovitz, just look at some of his work. He's penned something very enjoyable here.
It's not heavy, this is along the same lines as Father Brown and The Mallorca files, it's Sunday teatime viewing.
I've scored it quite highly because of the originality, I'm intrigued by events, I particularly enjoyed the 50's set segments.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, 8/10.

I gave this a positive rating because of its creativity. We have a cantankerous mystery writer who has submitted a manuscript for another successful book. It appears he is incredibly admired by his readers, though he is utterly unpleasant. We then switch to his main character, a Poirot type, who is at the top of the investigative game. Unfortunately, death intervenes in both figures. And when the editor of the book goes over it, the last chapter is missing. This is the chapter where the mystery is unravelled. There is, obviously, no way for the ending to be searched out because the author seems to have committed suicide (or did he?). This is very promising and I'm intrigued.
