- Oskar Rheinhardt: [Alone in his office, typing. Max wslks in, hat on hand] The answer is 'no'.
- Max Liebermann: [Approaching Oscar's desk] You don't know what the question is yet.
- [Max sits down across from Oskar]
- Oskar Rheinhardt: Oh. Sorry. My mistake. I thought you were about to plead with me to release that fellow from your synagogue.
- [With a sigh, leaning forward]
- Oskar Rheinhardt: Max. It's a straightforward murder case. There's no puzzle for you to solve.
- Max Liebermann: At least let me talk to him.
- Oskar Rheinhardt: [Leans back in his chair with a deep sigh] That's usually when thinks start to unravel.
- Max Liebermann: [Max struggles heroically not to release the tiniest of smiles]
- Max Liebermann: [In a breathless whisper] What are you doing? Why are you following me?
- Bruder Killian: [Also whispering] I'm sorry. I...
- Max Liebermann: It was you. I heard you pacing outside of of my room. What are you trying to find?
- Bruder Killian: He asked me to watch to watch out for you.
- Max Liebermann: Who asked you?
- Bruder Killian: Your friend. Inspector Rheinhardt. He said you often get into trouble.
- Max Liebermann: [sighs]
- Bruder Killian: [as they walk away together] He mentioned something about the Ferris wheel.
- Max Liebermann: Someone wrote to Stanislav, eager to see this relic. He smuggled it out to show them. 'Jesus tended in the wilderness.' But he made a grave mistake.
- Oskar Rheinhardt: Yes. He was killed. And the relic was stolen.
- Max Liebermann: We have our answer, Inspector. I think it's time we went to confession.
