SUPER BORING
catfanatic88827 July 2022
Do filmmakers not understand the horror category these days? I remember when horror movies were very scary and kept you in the edge of your seat. This one is a real snoozefest. It's so slow paced and boring. Mostly it's a bunch of college kids laughing and talking over each other or smoking something or other. If I can spare just one person the wasted 90 minutes or so wasted, this post is worth it.

Never knew movies could be this boring...
Patient44416 February 2021
Ok, I get it, it is barely February the 16th, but for me this is the most disappointing and annoying horror of the year. Sadly, as I am a huge fan of the horror underground scene , I'm sure I'll find other productions quite weak, but I'm positive, none like this one. So let me explain to you why:

If you decide to watch this, you'll notice the camera work, the direction, the background, everything seems ok, not out of order, not cheap, not thrown there in the mix, but a work well done. Even tho this movie is clearly low budget, it doesn't look like one. The dialogue takes its time and seems comprehensive, there is character development, more than one location, more than one character or even group of such. So why did it fail so bad, and why did I give it two stars?

Because it is a 1.45h movie that begins to act in the last 25 minutes and till then this is nothing more than dialogue. All over dialogue, over any subject, between any kind of characters, you will see NOTHING for 1 hour and 20 minutes, but dialogue. Simply put, all over the place. Imagine a Tarantino movie that just forgets to start, like Death Proof but with even less action. This isn't a horror, this was tagged as such in order to attract a crowd, but it is so misleading, so annoying, one of the very few movies I rated it 2 stars. It was a painful experience and I hope I never have to go through such a thing again. It sort of ruined my night really, nothing and nothing but small talk over anything. Death Trip, a trip that might just kill you indeed.

Cheers!

Annoying
georgio-2649017 February 2021
Total guff. If you want to hear overexcited kids talking over each other for 80% of a movie then this is for you. The soundtrack was a constant stringed instrument attempting to install dread upon the viewer whilst the cast were in a kitchen squawking at one another competing for volume. There was 10 minutes of horror in this total hogwash attempt at entertainment. It is as bad, if not worse than reviews suggest. Avoid at all costs. Annoying and boring , it will leave you angry and full of hate for everyone involved making this carcrash of a movie.

Prattleporn that makes you regret you even started watching the film in the first place
mortradio16 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Let's take a camera, four actors with below-average talent, and various scenes for them to improve, mix them all together, and you get an hour and forty minute pot of boring Prattleporn soup.

If I could give it less than one star, I would.

Filled with dream sequences and flash-forward moments, the film takes us on a trip to a cabin (it looks more like a house) with four young hipsters. The hipsters are one guy who seems to be a professional friend and who has a crush on one of the girls, a girl who is having relationship problems with her boyfriend (she's the one that the guy has a crush on....wow), another girl who friendly, wild, likes weed, and can drink with the guys, and another girl who is rational. Obviously, as one can tell, the writer of the screenplay simply took a slab of cardboard and cut out the characters.

Of course, on their way up to the cabin, they prattle on about stuff that you wouldn't find interesting or care anything about. When the four young hipsters (1 guy and 3 girl) get to the cabin, the film tries to convey that the townsfolk aren't too friendly, and may even be a little weird. Notice how I said "tries to convey". The film fails to make you think that there is anything weird going on.

And so, once the four hipsters are at the cabin, the weed and booze begin, and with that, more prattling. Stories of the townfolk, the guy who likes the girl, prattle, prattle, prattle. When they all wake up the next morning, they decide to prattle more. The rational girl takes a stroll in the woods and discovers a foot sticking out of an abandoned car. Frightened, she runs back to the cabin and....decides to go out to dinner with her friends. Huh?

Let it be known that by the time the four hipsters head out to dinner, we are well into an hour of the film.

At dinner (yes, the waitress acts a little strange) the hipsters meet up with three guys (who seem a little weird). The guys invite the hipsters to a party, offering to drive them in their truck. So off they go.

Now in all fairness to the film, the director does convey an uncomfortable atmosphere during the "party", with the little bit of tension driving up to the party and the stares from the other guests of the party. Anyone who has lived through their late teens and early twenties knows of the uncomfortable, out-of-place feeling one gets being at a stranger's house surrounded by a bunch of strangers booze and drugs. That feeling is delivered during the film's "party" scene. When watching the scene, you are waiting for the rape of one of the hipsters to start happening, or the hipsters to start disappearing one by one, or all the guests turning on the hipsters. And you wait. And wait.

And then the hipsters are driven back to their cabin. That's the payout. One hour and twenty minutes have gone by, with pretty much nothing more than four hipsters prattling about nothing, and when you think that you are going to finally see the horror of the film, you are given more prattling. It is probably the biggest letdown of a film that is already plagued with complete boredom.

The last fifteen minutes of the film is when the actual bloodletting begins to happen. I won't get into the final moments, but take my word for it, you will see nothing different. You might get a chuckle from watching the fight scenes, which are more like "let's hug each other and pretend we're fighting" scenes, but that's about it. Other than that, you will see nothing different. You will still be bored. You will still be wondering when the movie will finally end. You will still be disappointed in yourself for watching this garbage.

"Death Trip" is one of those films that if you make yourself sit through it, you actually get angry at yourself for doing so.

"Death Trip" is a complete waste of time.

Nonsense
Stanlee10718 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is an awful film that is full of annoying characters that talk over each other & it is an excruciating watch. The film seems to drag along at a tortoise's pace & utilising the most unoriginal tried and tested "jump scares" techniques that are worse than that was used in the Grudge (2020).

There is nothing redeeming about this film. The storyline is unoriginal and even the ending was so bland and rough like somebody is using sand paper against your skin, eyes and soul! I hear listening to white noise can be annoying but being forced to watch the entirely of this film is equally an unpleasant experience.

Garbage!
rxmeister6 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Paid $7.99 to watch this trash on On Demand. Just an awful nonsensical plot with awful acting and dialogue. I noticed the actors all used their real first names for their characters, and I'm guessing it's because the actors are so stupid they kept forgetting their names in the movie. Why is the psycho killing the girl he loves when at long last he's finally gotten her? Why is the other girl terrified and ill and wanting to go home and then agrees to go to a party with completely strange men drooling over them and even gets in a truck with the dude stalking her? And when they're talking the sound is so garbled you can't understand a word they're saying! Last horror movie I watch where I've never heard of the actors. That's always a clue the movie is awful.

I made it to 16 minutes but it felt a lot longer.
beachrox1 October 2021
By ten minutes in, my nerves were shot from noise and confusion.

After an odd and confusing start, we're given what can only be described as loud screeching fiddle that's supposed be background music. It goes on as everyone talks at once.

I muted, used CC, even forwarded. Finally the music stops. (Probably starts again at some point. I wouldn't know.)

Whew. Ok now I can get into the movie, right?

No. These four kept talking and laughing and yelling all at the same time. All. At. Once.

So I again tried the muting and CC but it just didn't stop.

From what I've read here, I dodged a bullet.

The ultimate garbage
yousefmentalism1 August 2021
I created and account just to rate this nonsense garbage. This film is confusing, boring and long. You won't understand a thing, like from start to finish. If you're planning to watch this film, then i have a better advice for you. Talk to someone you like, your beloved one, your family. Go to the gym or anything but watching this film, because it's a literall torture for your time and eyes.

Sincerely.

Plus one star for being Canadian. Subtracted 7 stars for the painfully boring first 1 hour 25 minutes. It's nothing against the actors they had very little to work with, it's just boring as heck!

Has a few interesting elements but not a lot of genre elements
kannibalcorpsegrinder19 February 2021
Wanting to get away for the weekend, a group of friends decides to have a special get-together at a remote cottage in the wilderness, but when they discover that someone has been brutally murdered they realize they're being hunted by someone around them and must try to get away alive.

There were some rather troubling factors here alongside its positives. The main drawback is the wholly unnecessary overlong running time that goes on way too long for this kind of film. The early setup involving the lives of the group coming together and arriving at the house manages to be incredibly bland offering up nothing all that interesting as the group does nothing but play banal party games, drink or smoke while arguing over their past boyfriends or debate the merits of the story involving the neighbors' who may or may not have killed his wife. None of this is interesting or thrilling, and when carried on for as long as it is in the running time here it really holds the horror elements back to a point that it's entirely possible to forget this was supposed to be a genre effort in the first place. This is certainly not helped along by the second half where it really shows off how bland and uninteresting the characters are. Focusing on the try-hard political correctness of their intentions instead of having fun or the utterly unnecessary stopover at a party hosted by a local stranger manages to highlight this factor even more with the dull and dreary work of everyone involved making it insanely difficult to care about anything and anyone involved. Taking on the additional disadvantage of being so bland is that these also contribute to the film's overlong running time as not only do we grow to not care about anyone but it just makes the film a chore to get through before getting to anything remotely considered genre entertainment. While it does have some problems later on, among the few things it does right is the actual switchover into the darker scenes when the dying body of their friend is found. It's a genuinely terrifying scene with the confusion and general disorder of the scene where they discover the remains and try to make sense of everything happening, yet even that loses its power and meaning when the motivation for everything comes out rendering everything into a wholly unimpressive and lackluster scorned romance angle that doesn't justify anything that's come before or makes sense as to what the events leading up to that revelation. For the most part, these are what hold this one down.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, Brief Nudity and drug use.

Warning: Spoilers
This is bad. as pointed out by other reviewers, they fill up the time with chit chats and stuff. which i dont really mind at first, provided if there's really good stuff in the end, like blair witch or paranormal activity. instead, in the end we get michone and the boy doin a wrestling match, stand around and wait for the other to attack them and switch turns. now thats some wasted time i cant get back.

Worst movie I've ever we watched...
pxmwhmk4 August 2022
Plot was terrible. You spend the whole movie wondering what is going on but in the worst way possible. The situations that the characters get in are unremarkable, unrealistic, and honesty frustrating. Please watch so you can be as mad as I am.

Long
leavymusic-228 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In brief it had some potential, but it was dashed by a abrasive soundtrack that was obviously written to give the film some get up and go, which unfortunately it doesn't do.

Far too much garbled dialogue that crosses over each other, so you don't no what the actors are banging on about half the time & not a lot happens until the last reel or so. Pretty hard going, some people out there may like it but for me It was a letdown on more than one level. I think the filmmaker has a good film in them in waiting though.

Better than the average low budget horror i run into these days.
thegrimmshaw17 February 2021
Good writing, acting, camera work, direction. I agree with some of the others that the pacing and soundtrack were weaknesses (imo) some of the plot points could have been hinted at or mixed in earlier, but it's absolutely worth watching if you're looking for underground indie horror films.

Once it gets there...
BandSAboutMovies17 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first film of director, co-writer and editor (he also is in the movie) James Watts, Death Trip is the story of four friends - including co-writer Kelly Kay - has pretensions of art and feels improvised, but the most planned scenes strike the hardest. There's a great slasher here, but sadly, it takes forever to get through some of this to see what could be.

Getting out of the city, Kelly and her friends soon learn some dark things about the townies, but to get there, you've going to have to watch them smoke weed, drink and have long conversations that descend into mumblecore instead of driving the plot forward.

That said, the scenes at the party and the awkwardness of the situation - I once stayed in a destroyed motel with an ex-girlfriend on a roadtrip and some guy passed her a note about wanting to party, which frightened her so badly that she slept holding a knife, so this scene felt like that - is the best part of the whole movie. I know that this film can do that, so sitting through everything else to get through that isn't a slow burn or a build. It's dross and boredom.

That said, the film looks great and has moments of true dread. I loved the quick burses of the mayhem and gore that was coming interspersed throughout the film. And I think that Watts and Kay are both quite talented. I hope that they learn from this movie - and hey, films are subjective so you may love it - and make something even better.

Decent, but bad pacing
chaosbaron7 July 2022
The film has some reasonably good cinematography with well lit scenes. The acting isn't bad, though there are a lot of scenes with characters talking over each other. This is to make the scenes feel more real, though for the most part audiences don't seem to like it. While the film does a reasonable job building up suspense and un ease for the first hour, its pacing kinda starts to dip and weave. That is the biggest fault of the film ultimately, as when the tension dips after rising it is hard to reinvest emotionally.

How do these people get the money to make such garbage?
uptheslide-9121129 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Is this a Canadian movie? I often ask myself that question when the movie starts and the camera points at nostrils the whole time. I had to fast forward to see them die. It was in the end. The music sucked the acting sucked. Like there is a point where the music was "aminous" but it was some one taking a piss. The scariest part was the nostrils. That's how terrible it was. They could have invested a little money on fake tears and better acting. It didn't make sense. The FIGHT scene at the end are two peole giving each other bear hugs..what a joke!!!!

Huh!?
johnnygriner8 July 2022
I was digging the vibe the movie was putting out but it fell short for me on multiple levels. It was very confusing as to what was going on and who was who. I doubt that you'd want to read a huge review from some nobody pretending to know what he's talking about because that's what it would be from me. Probably would tell you to not to bother with this film but if your in an adventurous mood and you figure out what this film is about, please let us know what you think went on in "Death Trip"

Wowwwwww
amymay-699163 January 2024
You know a movie is hot raccoon dumpster trash when the writers of the screenplay don't even bother to make original names for their characters --all the actors played characters of the same name, and credits included such gems as "country partygoer #24". Yes,they were really that lazy about casting. In addition--this movie goes nowhere for almost an hour and a half, and the last fifteen minutes are "why is this even happening"?!?! No explanation whatsoever for the actions of the killer, which just makes the last fifteen minutes confusing given the previous one and a half "setup". Granted, the fight scenes at the end were actually miles about most crappy horror "trying to escape from killer" scenes I have watched, with realistic "dirty" fighting for survival, but again, with zero explanation for why the killer was killing,I was in the weeds as to WHY this fight even came about. Total garbage. It's too late for me-- I can't unsee this. But you have a chance. Save yourself.
