A superb movie with great humour & immense characterisation.Must Watch!
ankur_lathwal30 October 2010
Abbas Tyrewala delivers another plain, light & lovable movie. The best thing about JHS is that every character has his/her role to play and no character is wasted. The movie has an interesting plot & it keeps you glued for two & a half hours. It includes a good humour & good dialogues. The acting has been superb from every person of John Abraham's gang in London! John,as always, delivers a innocent & lovable character whom you would fall in love with.Debutant actress Pakhi looks mature as an actor & delivers a good act.Raghu Ram is in his natural avatar & stands on expectations in his first film.Apart from these, the other actors also have their roles to play, and they do really well.R.Madhavan has a guest appearance. But i wonder why he chose a 10 minute negative role like this, which doesn't make much effect! The screenplay is good & the camera is able to capture some beautiful scenes of London. The dialogues of the movie have been written well & some funny ones will make you jump off from your seats. One low point about this film is that music doesn't score much even when it's a two & a half hour long movie.Although the song "mere chehre ki....",which runs in the background,is good apart from "maiyya yashoda....". So,to sum up,JHS is a great venture for a superb weekend. It's a must watch! Just go for it! And always remember,Mt.K2 is a virgin peak! ;)

Nice screenplay with good performance
pradeepkrlko15 December 2010
Technically the movie is very good, especially the screenplay is very good and the performance of Jhon, Pakhi & Raghu is nice as well. Due to this two reason I like this movie. The idea of this romantic story is a new experiment in Hindi movie, which is not acceptable by a big majority of people also the music was not so effective its unbelievable that AR Rahman has given such music. The comedy and romantic scenes were nice and people enjoyed it, the co-stars has done their job well and comedy timings was good.Pakhi as and actress was very good at her role and she looked so fresh, John was good as well in his comic and romantic role. The film didn't run well on box-office due to the new concept of romance and the frequent use of English in the dialogs. I observed that the best part people couldn't enjoyed due to the language problem. Perhaps next time this should be taken care..

Definitely worth the watch...much better than some of,,,
mbh6905 November 2010
Definitely worth the watch....i was reluctant to watch it since some of the reviews were quite bad, but the Mrs is a big John fan, so had to watch it and I actually didn't at any time get distracted and felt the need to play on my iPhone or anything. It is certainly much better than some of the asinine movies coming out of Bollywood ( here looking at you Akshay Kumar who makes way too many movies and whose last few movies were barely watchable,oh god , Khatha Metha made me feel like killing myself for wasting 2 hrs of my life!).

John does a good job ( much better than I would have expected and the director has been smart by having a good ensemble built up around him of actors who complement him and keep the momentum going. Only negative is that the script could have probably done with a little more tweaking, but nevertheless a good effort and something different from Bollywood. Would definitely recommend this....

Brilliant film with a great ensemble cast!
pyotr-35 November 2011
I love this movie so much I am buying copies for all my friends and family. John Abraham is such fun to watch in this beautiful film!! The music is especially nice, with brilliant choreography.

I love the inclusion of all kinds of people in the cast. This is true life in London, but it is too-seldom seen in films. I believed that all of these people were friends, and the way they interacted with each other was very genuine, and very supportive of one another. Beautiful.

I love that I was not sure what was going to happen next. I thought I knew, but I was mostly wrong. It holds your interest and the climax at the end was fantastic! Very scary. I won't spoil the ending for you, though.

John Abraham is the greatest actor and talent I've seen. I wish he were better known here in America because he sets such a good example. But whether or not that happens, he is a brilliant and good man and I thank him for his wonderful works and his loving heart. He makes "Jhootha Hi Sahi" a complete joy to watch.

How is it possible that the person who wrote Maqbool comes up with something like this...
shashwatology27 October 2010
First of all, I want to point out to the fact that Abbas Tyrewala thinks he is a super intellectual being and a know-it-all guy, having strong opinions and judgments on people like Deepak Chopra (who is double his age, very senior and a renowned author), where he himself has read 5 books on Indian and Western philosophy; he and the writer (also the actress who failed in her job as a writer and did not one bit suit the role of the lead)proclaim themselves as authority on world philosophy. The script kept quoting philosophers who had otherwise no place in the situations which looked so pretentious and pseudo intellectual. The only person Trying very hard to save the film is Mr. John Abraham who pulls forth the script. Raghu Ram also tried his best to bring life to the dead script with his comic timing in few of the scenes (some of the jokes were really lame though). The film on the whole drags on and on.

The beautiful songs by the Maestro A.R.RAHMAN have not been done justice to and have been put randomly where they made no sense. Nevertheless the songs had beautiful melodies and meaningless lyrics (fly fly, baby fly-really???)! Tyrewala, who wrote such gems as Munnabhai MBBS and Maqbool, has directed JHS from a script written by his wife Pakhi. For a guy so well-known for having written engaging dramas, it's surprising he agreed to direct a script which is so scattered, and scenes that seem to be right out of American sitcoms, like Friends, How I Met Your Mother and even The Big Bang Theory.

Don't WASTE YOUR MONEY and most importantly your PRECIOUS TIME!!!

Beautiful!!
ShyamNTK12 November 2010
Something is wrong. Yes, something is terribly wrong. Either there is a problem with me, or there is a problem with the majority of Indian audience. I'm saying this, because I loved this film. Yes, you heard it right, I loved this film which most of you called crap and time waste stuff. When you people can accept the recycled, re-re-re-re-re-used, clichéd, melodramatic Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, why cant you accept this fresh and beautiful Jhootha Hi Sahi?? I still remember, Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Na was 70% 'Niram' (It's a Malayalam Movie released in 1998, and later remade to Hindi as Tujhe Meri Kasam with Reitesh Deshmukh and Genelia D'zouza). The rest 30% was the Khan brothers comedy, the Photoframe-dad portion, and all. In fact, apart from these two things, the movie was a crap. Then how did it become such a success? The answer is simple, there are big names behind. Aamir Khan, and his nephew Khan making a debut. Then AR Rahman, the Mozart of Madras. And what the makers did is, from the beginning they brought a false sensation of youthness and freshness in the movie, so that all the youth got attracted. It even had a song of heroine being sad because of her cat's death, and hero making her happy. Also, there was a 'Pappu' song, in which Pappu danced quite well, though. Then there was sister-brother-chooha fight, search for a girl, the new girl episode, self realization and mutual understanding, airport singing!! That's all!! I still wonder why this went out to be a big hit!!

But, Jhootha Hi Sahi has no Pappu song, there are no FUNNY moments (if you think JTJYN had funny moments), Jhootha Hi Sahi is a honest attempt from a director who badly wants to come out of the clichéd world and do something new and innovative. People had drawn parallels with the 2002 film 'University', I don't know, I haven't watched that film. But, this is a very good film, and I feel pity about the audience and the critics who gave a thumb down to the movie.

The movie is fresh, the performances are nice, and it offers at least 3-4 good songs. The song lyrics are penned according to the situations, and the entire movie is shot well. The only drawbacks one can find are Mansi Scott who played John Abraham's girlfriend, she acted well, but didn't look good. Also, the climax of bridge opening and John jumping, etc were usual bollywood stuff. But, apart from that, it is a very good movie.

The performances are awesome. While John Abraham shines in his new avatar, the real showstealer is Pakhi Tyrewala, who surprises us with a fine performance, and well written dialogues. Among the other cast, Raghu Ram is awesome!! Also, Alishka Varde and George Young shared very good chemistry. The cameos by Madhavan and Nandana Sen were nice.

The music, as I had reviewed earlier, is good. There are good songs in the movie, and they are placed at apt places. Even the song 'Pam para' looked okay on screen, which otherwise I don't like.

On the whole, I loved the movie when I watched it. It is very sad thing that such a good movie flopped severely at box office. :(

Oh no
axh264-18 January 2011
This looks really promising on the DVD cover - it makes you expect a feel-good comedy along the lines of beauty and the geek. WRONG.

It fails to get the potential out of a great idea - a team of volunteers that help suicidal people via their 'Dost India' helpline.

Its flaws are many - most notably being a very poor lead actress alongside an equally poor cast with the exception of Abraham. I honestly think a quality actress could have saved this but Pakhi is just not up to the job here.

I would say that this is mostly a bad film, but does entertain in places, offers a slightly new, quirky subject for Indian audiences and does manage to wrap things up with a decent ending.

A lukewarm 5/10

Unique, intelligent and interestingly funny
super_human_samurai29 March 2020
This is an extremely underrated movie and it hurts to see such movies not do so well at the box office.

This movie has such a different yet feel good sense of humor. John Abraham shows how impressive of an actor he is through roles like these. This movie shows the best of friendship, best of humor and innocence.

All the characters have perfect roles in this movie and I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful movie and I wouldn't necessarily be able to put it in the genre of Romance or drama or comedy entirely.

An overconfident product after a major musical Hit.
bobbysing27 January 2011
If you have a big musical hit riding heavy at your back, then it really becomes tough to meet the huge expectations with your second movie. At times directors have managed to deliver an even better product as the second project in the past. But Abbas Tyrewala fails to surpass his own set standards of a good musical love story with JHOOTHA HI SAHI.

Starting off with an interesting yet very lazy sequence of John Abraham, receiving wrong phone calls from young suicidal people, the film opens on a pretty confusing note. Though John tries hard to pose as a dumb and self-doubting person in contrast with his famous persona, but the powerful off screen enigma of the star doesn't let you believe in the character he is playing in the movie. And that's where the film fails to impress the viewer from its very first scene which is also long enough to make you feel restless.

Further taking his small references from various Hit western projects and again naming the film on a Hit Bollywood song from the Golden Era, the other mistake made by Abbas in JHOOTHA HIS SAHI is to cast his wife Pakhi in the role of the leading lady. The girl, who also happens to be the writer of the movie, has no doubt got some beautiful and appealing looks, but she actually lacks the required star-presence standing in front of the dashing John Abrahm. Pakhi surely could have proved her talent in a more convincing way in another low profile movie. But here as the leading lady of John, she completely looks like a misfit with no exciting chemistry visible between the two on the screen and also looks pretty aged in several shots.

So mainly 'JHOOTHA HI SAHI' doesn't work because of its wrong casting choices made by the same director who gave us the hit JAANE TU YA JAANE NA, which ironically had worked only due to its perfect cast and its freshness. Moreover this time, instead of having some emotionally rich sequences, Abbas surprisingly stresses more on lengthy verbal confrontation scenes between his characters which even become intolerable at regular intervals in the film. For instance, the over the top scenes between the pregnant girl and her sincere boyfriend, the suggestive dialogues between the gay characters within the friend circle, the un-necessary remarks on the people living in India and Pakistan and a highly filmy climax leave you simply unmoved.

Moreover the leading lady remains the most confused character in the script (written by herself) as she keeps shifting between her two boyfriends John and R. Madhavan towards the end of the film. And that also raises an important question in mind that why Madhavan consistently keeps featuring in such kind of post interval roles where he is not given anything concrete to do on screen. In short on the performance front, there is no one coming out with something exceptional in his or her portrayal of the given role. And therefore the film is not something which can be stated as "From the director of JAANE TU A JAANE NA" as written in its posters.

Musically too, JHOOTHA HI SAHI is not the kind of stuff which was being expected from the hit pair of Abbas & Rahman post their major musical HIT JTYJN. Few songs like "Cry Cry","Hello Hello" and "Jhoota Hi Sahi" are good but I strongly feel that our audience appreciates the music of a HIT film more than the below average one. Had this been a good movie then its music surely would have been enjoyed more by everyone, in a different manner altogether. So in a way, the soundtrack gets less attention from the viewer due to the below average result of the project overall. Having said that I also feel that the music of this film may have suffered due to the other major projects being handled by the maestro in that period too as it gives you this feeling in bits and parts in its songs.

In all, JHOOTHA HI SAHI can be called as an overconfident product which falls way short of its huge expectations, becoming the victim of its wrong casting choices by the director. So unless you really wish to watch the strong John in a weak role, just restrict yourself from seeing this.

Was Fun
tictacno31 May 2014
First of all, i am not a huge movie buff. I only watch Bollywood movies after reading a lot of reviews, and recommendations by friends because usually they are a waste of time. Coming back to the movie, it was fun 2 hours. The movie had its moments, funny, romantic and especially the Indo-Pak element was also appreciable. The story is of a guy Siddharth (John Abraham) who somehow volunteers for a student run organization 'Dost India' who reconcile the people trying to attempt suicide, over phone. One day he gets a call from a girl Mishka, who is about to commit suicide. He reconciles him over the phone throughout the night. After that they start talking more often and Sid wins her trust gradually. In some humorous turn of events, Sid gets to meet Sara and tries to befriend her. He convinces Mishka over the phone to befriend Sid. Mishka doesn't know that the guy over phone and Sid is the same. Friends of Sid, Omar, Aliya, Ankur etc were fun to watch. Overall a good entertainer.

One of the most pathetic movie of all time
fashionable_boy4206 September 2011
This is probably the worst movie i have ever seen in my whole life.

I don't get it, how can this hideous movie fetch 6.2 ratings, it don't even deserve a single star. And the people who have written so damn good comments/reviews about the movie, must be the relatives of the producers or actors. The story of the movie is out of the world. When someone wants to commit suicide i don't think they are gonna call anybody before they actually do it. Seriously i don't buy the story at all, it is 100% unrealistic.

I wonder how anybody can bear this crap, and it was a mistake on my part too, to watch this movie. The cast and crew of the movie should be punished harshly. The acting is awful, screenplay and story is non-sense.

So please do not waste neither your precious time nor money for this.

A simple yet interesting love story, loved it
sandeepgba27 April 2020
It is an underrated movie. The script is good, the characters are great. It moves slowly with a natural pace and keeps you hooked with a good laugh inbetween the heart warming scenes.

Lived john abrahim, though the female lead looked little old for her character.

But the way this story is told is so smooth that you just become part of it.

Strictly Okay...
namashi_111 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Abbas Tyrewala's 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' was a refreshingly entertaining film, that despite the normal clichés held your interest.

Sadly, 'Jhootha Hi Sahi' lacks soul. Written by Abbas's, Pakhi, this romantic-comedy begins well and offers a few interesting moments, but is mainly, as mentioned, soulless.

'Jhootha Hi Sahi' tells the story of a suicidal woman, whose "final" call mistakenly connects her to a man who gives her something to live for.

As interesting the idea is, the writing is a mess, especially in the second hour. To be honest, the protagonist, played by John Abraham is an interesting character, but the female protagonist played by Pakhi her-self, comes across confused. Also, the characters who play John's friends, have been given too much importance. And the character of Pakhi's ex, played by Madhavan, is completely wasted!

Pakhi's writing is flawed. Thus, Abbas Tyrewala's direction hardly leaves a mark. Cinematography is fine. Music by the legendary A. R. Rahman is super, as always and helps elevate the film.

Performance-Wise: John delivers a sincere performance. Pakhi Tyrewala's character, which she has penned her-self, lets her down. Raghu Ram is convincing. Madhavan is wasted. Others lend average support.

On the whole, though it offers an interesting premise, great music and manages to bring in a sincere performance from it's lead star, this romantic-comedy still remains soul-less. Watch it, if you must!

A fresh breeze for blue mood
user-350-61898921 April 2012
I, like most others had a different opinion about the movie. I appreciate music and "Maiyya Yashoda" being a music marvel created my interest to view the movie. Few weeks back, I watch the song on my Phone through youtube and got the link for the FULL movie. Dark room, Night and having wife and kid sleeping, I started the movie with my Bose headphones ON and could not stop myself watching it till end. The story line is very different but very well directed. Scenes are well chosen and situation well crafted. Much different than most of Hero/Heroine centric bollywood movie with overdose of emotions. Movie is based out of London with John, a shy and nerd guy got into situation and he starts lying with his phone friend. Things change they meet with Pakhi not knowing that John is same Phone friend. Ragu and Alishka are Awesome in the movie with Alishka having Urdu acsent and sayings... A MUST WATCH Dear friends when you are in light mood and enjoy with friends....

Boring slow drama which leads nowhere!
gopi_alert24 January 2011
Wanted to watch this movie since long time and finally, watched it over the weekend. The movie in the first place is not comedy and story is so illogical that you don't understand the movie.

John Abraham and A.R. Rahman both did a fair job. The actress is not up to the mark and she lacks facial expressions in many scenes across the film. The story of the film is very weak to be honest, it's a regular film nothing new. Director failed to show the love between the hero and the heroine and unnecessarily included much junk which is no way funny.

Couple of songs are good and the background score is okay. Overall, it's a drama you can ignore to save your precious time.

Another Hit-The-Youth Movie By Abbas Tyrewala
shikhar-warrior2926 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Well Well Well...Abbas Tyrewala scores again , not a hard as the previous one (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na) but certainly no less , the movie is what you'll call a light hearted sweet, cute , emotional romantic comedy the moves around a Helpline in London "Dost India" which works for the people of India settled in London who are in a state of frustration and are about to do something wrong with there life..mistakenly the "Dost India" Corp prints out Sidharth (John Abraham's) number as there helpline no. it is when Sid agrees to take the calls of those people in dire need to b motivated that he comes across Mishka (Pakhi) and helps her out the same way..both of them get close and "Sid" falls in love with her..but he has hidden his identity of being the guy on the phone and being the one in real life "Will Sid get his love in spite of the millions of "Jhooth" he has already said ? tats what the story is about..

Talking about the performances everyone right from John to Pakhi , from Raghu to Anitha Nair..everyone is brilliant.. R. Madhavan n Nandita Sen are cool in there cameo's

would have rated it a bit more if "A.R Rehman's" music would have been more catchy all u remember is "Cry Cry" when u come out of the Theaters

Must Watch :)

A Must Watch
mitpawan2 November 2010
Before watching this movie I spent some time going through the reviews online and decided not to watch. But my wife really wanted to see a Bollywood movie and since this was the only one playing in the theater near-by, we decided to give it a shot.

Boy am I glad I watched this movie. I was having a hard time controlling my laughter. The storyline is really original and the acting is super. Pakhi, who has played the role of lead actress, has been wonderful. She has handled the emotional scenes without getting too melodramatic. John Abrams is great also. He is very natural without any over acting.

This movie has a western overtone (live in relationships, pre-marital sex) and that is probably why it has not been accepted in India. But if you are looking for two and a half hours of clean fun with no "rona-dhona" and drama do go and watch this movie.

Superb movie, fun and so refreshing!!!
sanaattar-9576624 May 2022
Astounds me how movies like this don't become popular hits!

This is a gem of a movie. It's fluffy, fun and soooo refreshing and entertaining!! Barely get these kinds of movies these days; 99% of the movies are trying to convey some or the other message, teach or preach something (which is awesome, but sometimes movies should be just for fun and have no-burden to them). Script is smooth and flowing, acting great by all of the cast (the friend circle is a riot! :)), and the music by A. R Rahman is mesmerizing! The music is so new, fresh, soothing and in the narrative.

Highly recommend!!!!!!

Movie with great humour & so Underrated
biswajitswain-0410528 September 2022
Please watch the movie with friends & family, it will give you immense laugh, littlle bit emotion & satisfied ending, Not a single boring moment. Raghu is such a brilliant actor with great timing. He should have done movies more or may be his acting & humour are far beyond our generation. I wonder why such beautiful movies are so Underrated even by IMDb?????

With multiple characters, everyone justified their roles..John is very cool as the protagonist & also according to the story. Writing is fantastic. The jokes, the humour & the logics are upto the mark. Hats off to such talents. But it is sad that they just deem into the oblivion in our Bollywood industry.

Something's not quite right in there....
AvinashPatalay6 July 2011
With 2008 blockbuster hit "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" under his belt, one would expect Abbas Typrewala to dish out an equivalent with "Jhoota Hi Sahi". Sadly it doesn't reach the same zenith but then its its not too bad either. Its a nice light-hearted romantic comedy packed with some decent performances. The first-half sails like a breeze. The way "couple hand-picked in heaven" waiting to bump into each other on earth amongst sinful mortals is well fleshed out. And yes, the ode to "Notting Hill" is clearly visible. Its the second half thats lets the graph down. The audience waits with bated breath for the penny- dropping moment, but it takes quite a while to reach there.

John Abraham upp's his performance bar. Quite natural indeed. Pakhi in real-life might be heroine-material but on screen she doesn't have what it takes. The other supporting cast have done a good job. Madhavan was probably doped when he signed the dotted line, he was awful. Anaitha Nair & Nandana Sen deserved more screen time.

Rahman's songs are very much below average (infact a touch of nonchalant is clearly visible)

As in his earlier outing this time around the director again packs in too many layers. Sadly its gets far too many and to extent that the narrative sometimes loses sight of the main plot. London as a backdrop doesn't add any value to the story.

Verdict: Only telly material.
