Bland romcom story with no chemistry between the leads
filmtravel10120 February 2024
This romcom sounded like it would be interesting as I do like both of the actors and the setting in a small town seemed enchanting for a good romcom but I've not read the book.

However, the chemistry between the two leads is terrible and Al ost non existent so it's hard to imagine that they would have any interest in each other so the romance part just doesn't work which is just bad casting on the Directors or Producers part.

The acting is fine by both leads and it has nothing to do with anything but lack of chemistry. As on one hand you have a very pretty petite Asian girl that looks like she's 15 years old in a bathing suit, and a lifeguard that looks like he's twice her age and twice her height - Which is bad casting so maybe they could've cast it differently with either a younger main male lead or a slightly more mature older female lead but regardless these two had zero chemistry.

And the story is pretty basic with no real surprises which rarely matters in a good romcon provided the 2 leads have chemistry so the film did not work and felt like a bad Hallmark film.

5 stars.

[5.7] Breath, float, dream...

A lovely drama romance interlaced for a brief summer time. The story is engagingly simple, the acting good overall and very good for Andrea Bang who played with tremendous charisma and showed awesome chemistry with Robbie Amell who seemed lost by that powerful romantic force and connection.

Definitely deserves the next installment 'Float - surfing under the sun'.

Pretty boring...
anniewatchesmovies11 February 2024
I don't know how they keep getting these Wattpad movies so wrong. There was barely any chemistry between the characters and the storyline just seemed so forced. I was almost done with the movie when I realised that nothing had really happened. I thought Blake was meant to be some bad boy lifeguard but he was nothing of the sort, and everything just seemed too cliche. I just don't get it, they ruined the After series by changing storylines and hiring bad actors/directors and now they've done the same here. Truthfully, it was quite boring. Nothing really hooked me and there was just no excitement. I know it's all down to personal opinion but this movie was just not it.

Novice director and writers find it difficult to keep the film afloat.

Float is a new romantic drama directed and partly written by Sherren Lee. This is her directorial debut and has previously only directed short films and TV episodes.

Waverly (Andrea Bang) thinks she has already figured out her own future. However, she decides to change her plans after she meets lifeguard Blake (Robbie Arnell). Especially after he saved her when she almost drowned.

When Blake learns that Waverly can't really swim, he decides to teach her. During these swimming lessons, the two fall in love, but have to see if they can compare each other's past and future plans.

Besides the fact that this is her directorial debut, Sherren Lee is also still a novice as a screenwriter for films. Unfortunately, the same also applies to the other writers of this film. This makes the film quickly seem a bit simple and later uninteresting. The writers find it difficult to keep the film afloat.

They further based the film on the popular Wattpad teen novel by Kate Merchant. This story has been read more than 25.5 million times by Wattpad users. Despite this popular side, filming this story was perhaps a bit unnecessary.

Andrea Bang and Robbie Arnell perform their roles well, but they lack real chemistry together. This makes you as a viewer care little about their relationship.

Not Good Enough
PennyReviews26 February 2024
Romantic comedy-Drama '' Float '' is a romance with an underlying family drama to boot.

First of all, the story is too generic. Sure, there are some parts that are fairly enjoyable, however, there were a lot of others that just ruined the film.

The pace, for example, is all over the place, with the romance suffering the most. It robs it from the tension between the leads and leaves a lot off screen when it came to their relationship. That was evident in the ending, as the movie tried to create drama only to wrap things up awkwardly.

Also, there were a lot of plotlines that were left unexplored and suprficial, like the family drama of both leads.

Other than that, the performances were good enough from everyone.

cute but not right

Not like the books original storyline, its supposed to be an enemies to lovers type story but it looks like they fell in love at first sight. Im nitpicky with movies though.

Good even if the plot isnt the same.

The actors also look a little too old, they're 18 canonically.

I do love love stories, im a huge romance fan but this is a little baloney.... ive read the entire book and im a huge fan of it but seriously i cannot stress enough that the plot isnt the same. Waverly and blake dont meet the way they did in the movie, and blake doesnt have the same 'hatred' he was supposed to. He also lowkey seems a little white washed, he's supposed to be more tan.

But dont take my word for it. Just watch it yourself if you're curious about it.

We have to respect and appreciate someone else's effort and creativity

I've read a lot of reviews calling this movie gimmicry or corny, which makes sense given that Blake, the main cast member, is Caucasian, and Waverly, an Asian. Most people would probably say that the two just don't click, that there's no chemistry between them, and let's face it, it really shows how shocked you are to see a White man with an Asian woman. I'm curious as to how it'll be if ANYONE BUT YOU rom-com movie's female lead actress is an Asian. In any case, I think it's a nice romantic film that has a relatable plot and is both enjoyable and thought-provoking. Overall, lets say I enjoy it.
